I’m kicking off a series reviewing all the places I visited to redeem my birthday goodies in July 2026. Along with an overall rating, each spot gets scored on redeemability (how easy it is to claim) and actual value.

Actual value: 10/5 (A WHOLE SET OF ONE REGULAR SIZE FREE SUB (ANY) and a drink!)

WOW! Aside from the fact that Jersey Mike gives out the BEST BIRTHDAY FREEBIES out of all the cafes and restaurants (with absolutely no convoluted process to redeem - the staff were extremely nice and friendly), the sub itself was freaking amazing.

I got the big kahuna - the beef was freshly grilled with LOTS OF white American cheese that melts all over, and the delicious grilled vegetables on top. I swear to god, this was perhaps just as good as the Philly steak sandwich I had in Philly if not better (as a birthday present). The store was as also super clean albeit extremely popular, with freshly cut meat and cheese served in an efficient speed. Tho I got a free combo, I also saw that the sandwiches were very reasonably priced - the quality and the price were unbeatable and I’ll def come back often.

I’d say jersey Mike’s is my FAV sub restaurant now, far surpass subway but also firehouse sub which I often found overpriced. Highly, highly recommended.“

I’ve been going to Quiznos for quite some time now, and I can confidently say it’s in my top 3 for sandwiches. I almost always order the Peppercorn Steak, it’s incredibly savoury, rich, and packed with flavour. It is on the heavier, greasier side, so a small is usually enough, but it’s absolutely worth it.

The peppercorn sauce is delicious and pairs perfectly with the very tender steak. I always get it on the rosemary Parmesan bread, which is herby, fragrant, and a great match for the steak and sauce. When I’m craving something savoury, dense, and satisfying, this is my go‑to order.

I’m open to trying other items on the menu, but it’s hard to cheat on the Peppercorn Steak.

“Haven't been here a while and decided to come back today. Always a staple in Markham and showed her my child hood place. It was a good evening. I ordered the usual Pandoras Box and she order the Garlic Parm. Another beautiful night. Always one of my go to places near Markham. I always go and get me some Pandora Box Wings and a Poutine. Overall I like the wings and the flavor and the poutine is one of the good ones. The Customer service is always great.“

“Ashna of the Panera Bread Bakery did her civic duty today by calling an ambulance to help someone in obvious distress on the sidewalk just outside the Bakery. She stayed with the person until the ambulance arrived. York Region EMS arrived quickly and took the person away on a stretcher. Ashna showed maturity throughout the incident. What a wonderful employee!“
