“A good friend from Montreal, was in Toronto today, and an acquaintance who we haven't seen for some time, and Bill and I met for a late lunch at the 'House on Parliament', (454 Parliament St. - west side of the St., south of Carlton St.). Someone recommended to us and it was our first visit there. The staff were friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was great, the food (great menu) was delicious, and the prices were fair! I had the 'Vodka cured smoked salmon' with fresh basil cream cheese, capers, cucumber, red onion confit and crostini. Very fresh and very tasty. The others also really enjoyed their meal too. If you're ever in the vicinity, I would highly recommend going there. Check out their page on fb to see some great pics of the food they serve. We will definitely go back there...“

“My wife and I had a great experience at Bramble Gastropub earlier this week. The food. the service and the ambiance were perfect. What was truly outstanding, however, was the staff's handling of my wife's unexpected health issue, as she became unconscious and slumped in her chair during dinner. The receptionist/hostess, Olivia, was quick and thoughtful in her response, discussing the situation with me and fellow restaurant guest who came to our table identifying herself as a physician, and then phoning for an ambulance. During the whole situation Olivia was gracious, respectful and highly competent. It made what could have been an awkward and difficult situation, smooth and low key, which was ideal for us. Ultimately, my wife's medical situation resolved with the paramedics arriving and taking over in a discreet outside part of the restaurant. Thank you to Olivia and the staff of Brambles. My wife is fine now, by the way!!“

“The service was friendly and attentive. One thing to note: the menu advertised buck-a-shuck oysters available with a non-alcoholic drink purchase, but when we arrived, we were told it only applies with alcoholic beverages—so that was a bit disappointing. That aside, the nachos are a definite must-try, and the buck-a-shuck oysters are always worth it (we got 48 oysters between the 2 of us). The pretzel was average, and if you’re deciding between the gochujang chicken bites and the cauliflower, I’d recommend going with the cauliflower. The Caesar drinks were pretty standard.

The vibe inside was chill and dimly lit, making it a nice spot to unwind. Parking is limited—you’ll need to find street parking or use a nearby garage (there’s one close by that offers $7 parking after 7 PM from Sunday to Thursday). When we arrived, we weren’t sure where the front entrance was, so we ended up entering through the patio doors. By the time we left, we realized where the actual front door was. Overall, a good night out with a few quirks.“

“I loved this pub so much I got married here! We had a small ceremony (20 people) on the dreamy back patio and a medium reception (55 people) on the upper floors. The Paddock Tavern Bar • $

“The Paddock has been around for decades and is one of the best dive bars. It was slated to close after Covid but the landlord let them sign a new lease. They made it bigger by knocking out a wall at the back and that is where they have renovated the place to put a stage there for the live music. Prices are not bad, staff are great and the place has a really good feel to it. Glad to see it is staying around for a while longer“

“While I may not call the Junction home, I’ve discovered that Axis Café is the neighborhood’s best-kept secret. This modest spot is the heart of the area, where locals gather to catch up, swap stories, and soak in the charm of their vibrant community. Whether you're meeting friends, catching up on local gossip, or just enjoying the atmosphere, this is the place to be.

Of course, if you prefer solitude, snag a table for one, savor a drink, dive into a good book, and watch the Junction come to life around you.

I haven’t yet experienced Axis’s nightlife, but word on the street is that it’s the perfect place to kick off—or wind down—your evening. Their beer selection is solid, ranging from craft brews to the classics, and any bar that serves Pabst Blue Ribbon gets a nod of approval from me.

The food? Delicious and thoughtfully prepared, with something on the menu for everyone. So, if you find yourself in the Junction, or are curious to explore, make Axis Café your first stop. You won’t be disappointed.“

“My husband and I wanted a relaxed dinner without getting all fancy dressed and we had gone to this spot for drinks once before, months ago. All of the food around us looked so delicious but we had already had dinner. So when we were looking for a casual spot last minute , I thought of this place. I’m so glad I made the mental note. The food was delicious! We had to wait a little for a table , which is totally understandable on a Friday night ,, no reso, but we were kindly assured by a couple of servers that we would be seated quickly and we were. We were taken care of by several people and the wine was great. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars on food is because of the shucking of the oysters, although they were very tasty they had a lot of shell , the mignonette, however was one of the best in the city , and the carrot cake … I’m picky . It’s a very comfortable atmosphere and will be our go-to in our neighbourhood. Absolutely a must try.“
