“A good friend from Montreal, was in Toronto today, and an acquaintance who we haven't seen for some time, and Bill and I met for a late lunch at the 'House on Parliament', (454 Parliament St. - west side of the St., south of Carlton St.). Someone recommended to us and it was our first visit there. The staff were friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was great, the food (great menu) was delicious, and the prices were fair! I had the 'Vodka cured smoked salmon' with fresh basil cream cheese, capers, cucumber, red onion confit and crostini. Very fresh and very tasty. The others also really enjoyed their meal too. If you're ever in the vicinity, I would highly recommend going there. Check out their page on fb to see some great pics of the food they serve. We will definitely go back there...“

“I have been a loyal patron and BIG fan of this place for a number of years. Love it. And I still do. A few small things: there's a new chef and the menu is much smaller. Food was still fantastic, I just hope he makes his mark and expands the menu again. A few favourites have vanished. Other than that, my only concerns were 1) the food took a really long time, which has never happened, and 2) music was fantastic but far too loud for dinner conversation (which also happened on New Years Eve). I'll still be back! And the cocktails were still phenomenal.“

“I recently visited Bar Hop with my friends and we had a great time! The vibe was really good—relaxed, lively, and perfect for a night out. The staff were friendly, polite, and made us feel welcome throughout our visit.
We ordered a few tap beers, which were fresh and tasted great. For food, we went with fish & chips, wings, and fries, and everything was delicious. The portions were solid and the flavours were on point.
Overall, an awesome experience. Definitely a spot I’d visit again! 😊“

“I love this place, and try to go every time I'm in Toronto. They keep an excellent and creative list of craft beers that are locally sourced. The staff are great, as is the food and the overall vibe.“

“Visiting from Denver, CO. Found this place by chance and it is excellent. Chris is friendly and more importantly knowledgeable about the local beers he serves. We're only in town for a few days but we will stop in every night that were in Toronto.“

“Looking for a new, favourite haunt? We highly recommend the Prohibition Social House. Located in the Riverside Neighbourhood on Queen Street just across the bridge from the Distillery District and known as the small town in a big city. The ambiance is subdued with low lighting and soft music, creating an inviting, friendly and intimate atmosphere. We dined 2 evenings while visiting nearby family. The menu is creative, diverse and complete, which would satisfy tastes from the basic to the more discriminating palates. Beer and wine selections were impressive and very reasonably priced, especially during their 2 different happy hours. Our servers were Victoria and Talia, both of whom were courteous, friendly, personable, highly engaging and extremely professional. We were also warmly welcomed by management staff. Customer service was outstanding. These qualities and the food made us return customers. On the first evening, we thoroughly enjoyed battered mushrooms, tuna tartare, cob salad and the famous Prohibition burger. The mushrooms were not the standard button variety, but specialty oyster mushrooms coated in a light breading, quick fried and served over greens with a very flavourful aioli sauce. The elegant bluefin tuna tartare was fresh, succulent and professionally presented. The cob salad was fairly standard, but plentiful. The meal highlight was the burger. The Prohibition Social House grinds their own beef, meaning that you can order your burger cooked from rare to well done. I ordered mine medium rare. Complete with fries it was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious, served on a brioche bun with fixings on the side so that you can tailor your burger to preference. All food (other than the salad) was piping hot. The burger was so delicious, I also ordered it on the second evening. No disappointment here… once again, it was consistently impeccable. During our second visit, we also ordered the battered calamari. Again, lightly breaded served over greens with another very flavourful aioli sauce and cooked to a delicate exactness. We also ordered the mushroom ravioli, which was served in a delectable creamy, bechamel sauce. Portions were perfect. All in all… an awesome and impressive dining experience. Well done folks and thank you! We will be back. Quoting a onetime TV show… “You gotta’ eat here!” Phil and Wendy H. (London, Ontario)“

“We are so happy we discovered the Rabbit Hole and we will return whenever we're in town. Gorgeous room, fantastic menu, and outstanding service. Special thanks to Ian at the bar for his wonderful hospitality, recommendations, and good humour. Also, for a busy space, the room acoustics are managed very well and we can enjoy our conversation while feeling like we have privacy.“

“Had a great experience recently at The Commoner. The three of us enjoyed the lively atmosphere of the elevated NYC-style pub/cafe, and the extensive collection of beers on tap. We had local laugers that were excellent and the food was fast and satisfying. The standout was the crispy chicken breast sandwich, just perfect. Steaks were done to perfection and the truffle fries were out of this world. For a casual but upscale neighbourhood spot with great vibes, The Commoner is a stand out favourtite.“

“The Thai red curry was just amazing, reminds me of my trip to Chiang Mai. The seafood pasta with mussels was also great. All made in house. Rare find in area. Great craft beer. A hidden gem from all the places in the area that serve basic chicken wings and deep fried offerings. The entrance is not desirable, but was told the entrance is being renovated.“

“I loved this pub so much I got married here! We had a small ceremony (20 people) on the dreamy back patio and a medium reception (55 people) on the upper floors. Steve and his staff were a dream to work with. I won't get into all the details but it was like working with a proper wedding planning team with the benefit (and cost!) of a casual, cozy pub wedding. Everyone raved about the food and the staff.“

“Girls’ night (party of three)
We were starving, which explains why I completely forgot to take photos of our first two plates. This is 100% a sharing-plates place, and we leaned all the way in.
What we ordered:
• Aged Manchego with honeycomb - salty, sweet, gone immediately
• Tomato Bread “Royale” - so good we had to order it twice
• Grilled Savoy Cabbage with miso glaze & scallion chili crunch – interesting cooked salad? But there were bites that were too spicy for my (low spice tolerance),
• Steak Tartare - really yummy, great duck fat and toast that accompanies it (could go for another slice of a bread when sharing though)
• Ricotta Gnocchi - came HOT to the table, different texture than expected for gnocchi
• Double-layer chocolate cake - deeply chocolatey, decadent, and non-negotiable (you gotta try it - I would come back just for it)
We were stuffed after the 7 plates between 3 of us, it was $55 per person pre-tip.
I enjoyed the music, it wasn't too loud that we had to yell our life stories across the table. Service was super attentive without hovering. The only real downside? It is SO dark inside. Very on theme with the bar’s name, but definitely a “slow down, feel with your feet, and squint to find your friends” situation.
Would come again.“

“It was the last night of winterlicious and the place was packed. The borscht was excellent, the chicken shashlik was tasty however luke warm and because it was so busy I did not want to wait for another and ate it quickly. The varenyky was good for dessert. I might return for the schnitzel as it looked excellent and the dinner winterlicious menu did not have schnitzel or cabbage rolls... Liza was a good server...“

“I’m here right now learning that in 27 days this place is being torn down to make room for condos. I am absolutely heartbroken - this place is a Toronto staple, and so important for the community and culture of University of Toronto and the city as a whole. I have been coming here for crash outs, for celebrations, and for everything in between. This place has been with me for all the highs and lows of my life and I am devastated to lose this part of me. Please reconsider City of Toronto. Think about what you’re taking away from us“

“We were here for an early meal. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. We had already heard about the legendary Crispy Brussels Sprouts appetizer and we were not disappointed. A very nice jalapeño honey glaze with toasted pecan. A very subtle touch of heat. A MUST try! We also enjoyed the wood fired Prosciutto Parma Arugula pizza. Excellent crust and very tasty. A decent selection of wines reasonably priced. The Mrs had a Spiced Tea cocktail that was featured and enjoyed. We are looking forward to coming back. Perfect for a date.“

“This is a cozy two-story pub with a very warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The food was tasty as well.
The music inside was a little loud, which made conversation a bit challenging at times.
Also, they close at 10 PM, which feels a bit early — it would be great if they stayed open a little later.
However, overall I was very satisfied.
It’s a lovely pub that I’d happily visit again.“
“The Paddock has been around for decades and is one of the best dive bars. It was slated to close after Covid but the landlord let them sign a new lease. They made it bigger by knocking out a wall at the back and that is where they have renovated the place to put a stage there for the live music. Prices are not bad, staff are great and the place has a really good feel to it. Glad to see it is staying around for a while longer“

“Went for Winterlicious lunch. Great food, attentive service. Clean, light filled space on a freezung cold day. Had momos for appetizer, salmon on a bed of tomato lentils for the main course, and creme brulee for dessert. Hot chocolate with whipped cream was perfect for a cold day. I recommend this place, and will go again.“
