“The Somali cuisine at this establishment is exceptional, renowned for its delectable flavors and warm hospitality. Despite its somewhat unconventional appearance, the overall dining experience was highly satisfactory. The standout dishes included goat and chicken rice, as well as fried fish.“

“Delicious food! The lamb was tender, the wet fries were crispy (I know, it sounds contradictory), and the fufu and egusi soup was even better than I had anticipated.
The cook (owner?) welcomed us and helped navigate the menu.
He was friendly and even offered us samples.
I took off one star on atmosphere because building seemed a bit sketchy at first, but it may have been the time we arrived, which was before a live music event. We were able to enjoy the band warming up, which ended up enriching our experience.
Highly recommend!!“

“This is a great restaurant. It is very clean and welcoming. The staff was so sweet and the food was delicious. I really appreciate how hospitable they were inviting me into their culture. The portion size is good, the ingredients are of the best quality, and price was very reasonable. I will definitely return for another meal.“

“I ordered the lamb shank and it was delicious. The meat fell off the bone. No knife needed! The flavor was great and it was really juicy.
The owner was very friendly and recommended several other dishes to try when I'm back in the area. I would highly recommend giving this place a try.
Don't be discouraged by the food court atmosphere, it was quiet and clean.“

“Black Star Grill catered our wedding. They created an amazing menu and even delivered to our venue. Due to our covid concerns, they boxed each meal separately. This was very convenient to take home after the wedding. The food was DELICIOUS, even the staff loved the food. Many of our guests got to experience West African food for the first time. Thank you for being a part of our wedding!“

“I'm giving this restaurant a 5-star rating because they try so hard to please everyone and you know how hard that is to do. The service was good even a little understaffed the night we went. They tried their best to keep a hundred people happy and fed. The food is ample and very affordable for a 5-course meal of soup, salad, bastilla, entree, dessert, and sweet tea. It's a Portland iconic experience everyone would love. Is it perfect? Maybe, not for tall Americans with long legs sitting on little cushion tuffs, but it's a true Moroccan slice of life for us who enjoy different cuisines and atmospheres while dining. It's a very popular place requiring reservations. People want to linger, so the turn-over is probably unpredictable. Come chill. Come and enjoy a good meal and a beautiful belly dancer as cultural entertainment. Long may the restaurant enchant our city!“

“Ok I'm still not entirely sure where you actually order, whether its at the counter or at the table, but we got there eventually. I was hungry so got one of the sambusas from the hot cabinet right away and it hit the spot. Then I had the chicken wrap which was delicious. It came wrapped in their chapati bread that has a really great, chewy texture. The total for my lunch was $12.50, which I think was an incredible value for the portion you get and the overall quality and freshness of the food you get. Everything was super flavorful too. Great lunch spot and I especially like that its the type of lunch that gives you energy rather than makres you feel like you need to take a nap. Highly recommend this spot.“
