“As a Chinese international student, I highly recommend 川悦喆 if you’ve been missing authentic Chinese food from home. The restaurant is very clean and cozy, and hearing Chinese music playing in the background honestly made me feel so comfortable and nostalgic.
Most importantly, the food tastes incredibly authentic — literally the exact flavor I’ve been craving and thinking about every day since coming to the U.S. It truly feels like a taste of home. Definitely one of the best spots for Chinese students in Pittsburgh!“

“The most authentic place in Pittsburgh for CLASSIC Hong Kong food. As an Asian American who has tried many different Hong Kong-style restaurants, this spot genuinely stands out.
If you’re visiting Pittsburgh — or even if you already live here — please skip the other “viral” dim sum place everyone talks about. This is the REAL DEAL.
Yes, it’s attached to a condo building, but honestly, that makes it even better. It’s tucked away from the usual trendy crowds, which means you actually have a good chance of getting seated without the chaos. The atmosphere feels modern, clean, and true to what an actual contemporary cha chaan teng looks and feels like in Hong Kong.
Most of the staff understand Mandarin and Cantonese, and bonus points if you speak Cantonese because it truly adds to the experience. Unlike some of the more hyped-up spots around Pittsburgh — especially in neighborhoods chasing trendy, retro aesthetics (yes, I'm talking about Lawrenceville) this place doesn’t rely on gimmicks, overdesigned decor, or “Instagrammable” presentation.
No trendy nostalgia gimmicks or overpriced “fusion” versions of classic comfort food — just genuinely good Hong Kong dishes at prices that still feel reasonable.
And honestly, one thing that matters to me personally when judging authenticity is whether the environment actually feels culturally familiar. As an Asian American, I naturally feel more comfortable in spaces where the staff, service style, and overall atmosphere reflect the culture the food comes from. There’s a certain warmth and understanding in that experience that’s hard to replicate artificially, and this place captures it well.
THIS is the place. Please give this review real consideration if you’re looking for authentic Hong Kong-style food in Pittsburgh.“

“Super affordable, old-school Chinese American cuisine. The egg foo young gravy was excellent and the egg patties were perfectly fried. I almost lived above it once, but realized they would get most of my paycheck on Sundays bc I'd want to get some takeout for my homeless friends next door! 🙂↕️ If you like the most classic Chinese food, check this place out. It even has the retro menu boards, which is always a sign it's gonna be good food.“

“Staff was so friendly. Food was amazing!!! 🤤 The barbecued spare ribs and Kung Pao beef were fantastic! Loved the atmosphere — Nice and chill, especially for being up on Shiloh street. Will definitely go back!!!“
“Clean and nice place. Service is great and very patient with customers. However food was just ordinary. Nothing impressive. Seasame balls were the best. I think they were fresh and not from those frozen package. 盐水鸭 was below average and not tender.“

“I went to a movie at Rowhouse that had catering from this restaurant, and OH MY GOD! It was so good. We just ate this for dinner on Christmas and I'm going to have it for the next three days, the portions are so big and the food is WONDERFUL. I cannot recommend the Cumin Lamb/Beef enough. So good. Thank you for making our Christmas excellent.“

“The food here was incredible, and the service, even more so. Their spring rolls are, of course, amazing, but they have so much more quality food— the crab rangoon was especially amazing. They have delicious vegetarian options, and, even with a large group, our food arrived promptly. I love this local spot, and I highly recommend it to everyone.“

“I am 57 years old & I have lived in 3 different states & over 6 different cities. Everywhere I live I must try Chinese cuisine. Ever since I have come to the Chinatown Inn it is by far & hands down the absolute best tasting Chinese cuisine that I have ever had in my entire life.“

“So….. I ate here only a couple of times. Today I brought my wife. My wife was blown away! This food is so good! They take care not to use a lot of sodium and the food taste really fresh and health, not overly greasy. It’s really good I’m honestly surprised. That veggie fried rice is my favorite right now. Give it a try!!!“

“I ordered the spicy spider maki hand roll from uber eats. I never make google reviews. I had to come on here and say how fresh and delightfully tasting it was. The fried rice and miso soup is really good. I haven’t had fried rice that tasted well in a while from Uber eats in Pittsburgh.“

“Love this place. It's one of those lil hole in the wall type spots. Their lunch specials are unbeatable, under $8 for a full meal. The food is all cooked fresh and really good. The place is clean and staff are super friendly. Highly recommend!“

“Taipei is by far the best sushi and Chinese restaurant in the Fox Chapel area. The servers are courteous and the specialty sushi rolls are noticeabley larger and tastier than Jimmy Wan's. In my opinion, Taipei also offers a better selection than Jimmy Wan's. We also appreciate Taipei's complimentary fried wontons served before each meal and orange slices provided at the end of service. This family-friendly restaurant always make us feel at home.“

“This has become my fave chinese takeaway in pgh. The fried rice doesn't have any veggies but it's packed with meat and delicious. The lo-mein is my latest fave. I get both with pork and it's the good char siu type pork.
It has about 4 seats inside, but it's really a To Go kind of place“

“Very pleasantly surprised. We always eat at Fortune Star Buffet in Monroeville but decided to try this place cuz it's closer to us.
The buffet has relatively few selections (Fortune Star has a ginormous variety of dishes) but the QUALITY/TASTE of the food is WAY above Fortune Star.
My personal favorites were the spring rolls (I ate four where normally I eat only 1 or 2 max) and the General Tsao's Chicken: amazingly delicious whereas all other General Tsao's I've had is so-so at best.
We'll still eat at Fortune Star just due to its massive selection of buffet options but we will def be back to this one just for the proximity and the quality/taste of the food.
We lucked out and found a paid parking spot right across the street ($3.15 for an hour; paid via the Pay By Phone app.)“

“My husband and I recently just moved back to the area and my first thought was Chan An. The BEST Chinese takeout in the area!! I don't know if it's still the same owner but the food is still good. The definitely upgraded since the last time I was there (2019) Love that you are able to order online now.“

“I recently visited this Chinese café-restaurant, and I was really impressed! Their wonton soup and hot and sour soup are absolutely delicious—rich in flavor and perfectly balanced. The dish in the photo is orange chicken, which was incredibly tasty, especially with brown rice. Every bite was full of flavor, and the texture was just right.
Another great thing about this place is that they have an electric charging station, so for some people, it’s a great way to do two things at once—enjoy a delicious meal while charging their car. Overall, this place serves amazing food, and I highly recommend it.“

“Overall we had such a good experience here and it was our first time visiting. Our family of six ordered 4 kinds of sushi, the amazing chicken (very good!), sesame chicken (good but too sweet for me) and all the kids had lo mein. We had a decent amount of leftovers to take home for lunch the next day. My kids loved the sushi and enjoyed watching the remote move around. There’s a ton of parking and the restaurant is easy to get to. We will be back!“

“This was my first time ever stopping into the restaurant. I am very picky about my Chinese food. The establishment cleanest and surrounding is important to me. If I see any signs of uncleaniness I am out the door. So I am impressed so I ordered. Watched how they prepared my food and others impressed. So took my food which was done at the time they told me. I got home and the food was great and delicious. So they will see me again since it alot closest to my home.“

“Visiting from out of town. We live in central PA so there’s not much Japanese food. When it’s cold out katsu curry just hits the spot and theirs is absolutely delicious. Loved how the spice builds and the rice soaked up the curry. The beni shoga is delicious on top of curry dipped bites of katsu“
“Terrible service, terrible food. Don't eat here.
Edit: I'm editing this review to 5 stars. Originally, I reviewed this location when it was called iNoodle. Thankfully, that place has closed down. Since there's a new restaurant owner, I believe it's fair to remove my previous 1-star review.“

“just got to order tonight from them and it was definitely the food that I needed to hit the spot. as for the quality of food, outstanding. But I went through a third party so the delivery was late LOL but that's okay, when I got it it was still hot and the quality did not diminish so I'll definitely be ordering from China Wonk again.“

“This place is hilarious. From my understanding the store is closed and they self-doordash to CMU.
You order by texting them on wechat from the couple options they have and they drive down to CMU everyday and meet you on campus in tepper to hand over your food like uberats.
My meal was 12 dollars for a tea, pork ribs, bok choy, shrimp, scrambled eggs and tomatoes and rice. It was delicious and incredibly cheap proportional to volume of food
10/10 would meet in the Tepper School of business alley again“

“Anyone who knows me, knows I love supporting small local businesses. The food was outstanding, but I was surprised at the plastic flatware/napkin in a sealed plastic bag and not real stainless steel flatware. Prices were inline with other Indian restaurants I have been to. Unfortunately, it's street parking in an already crowded street because of apartments. Would I recommend? Absolutely. Would I go back in the future? You bet I would!“

“Ok so yeah, the general tso is not great idk how you even mess that up. Tried it a few times lol. BUT EVERYTHING ELSE IS BOMB DIGGY! Any of their noodles dishes are honestly a grade above most local spots. The pan fried house lo mein is a killer dish. Another positive is NO MSG which have securely made their way back into almost every chinese restaurant. The best part about them is they deliver themselves! No doordash B.S. messing up your order or being late. They bring it themselves and are always ridiculously fast. If you live around noblestown road or west end they are a go to staple of the area.“

“By far, my favorite coconut shrimp in all of Pittsburgh. Its creamy, not crispy, (you all should try it) and the shrimp are plump and plentiful. Our server Julia was attentive and prompt. Got to meet the owner Wayway who was very pleasant. I plan on going there very often“
