“I’ve been coming here my whole life it’s my favorite
I just recently had a baby and I haven't been able to eat deli meat while pregnant so the first thing I did was come here excited.
I was waiting in line to order and this new guy I’ve never seen before had such a bad attitude and put chunks of tomato on my sandwich on purpose and ruined my first experience back. I was in line and waiting to here next or can I help the next person but I just got an annoyed stare from him and when I told him I wanted an Italian with everything on it add mayo he said what’s everything and I’ve always said that and everyone else puts what comes on a hoagie. So I had to name each thing. Tomato lettuce onion sweet and hot And then I walked away to keep shopping and when I got the sandwich and went home I opened it I was in shock it was almost funny I couldn’t believe it. Mind you I took my friend to show her because I love this place and she had a terrible first experience thanks to him I was embarrassed because I was telling her how good it is and how nice everyone is. She got a hoagie too and someone else made hers that’s how I know he did it on purpose. The first picture is my friend’s and the second and third is mine the one he made. I came in there two days ago and unfortunately he was making mine again and again when I said everything he looks annoyed and says what’s everything and read out each thing and when I got home he gave me a stale hard roll idk if he has something against me personally 😂I don’t know the guy but yall need to let him go.“

“A very cool one stop shop in the neighborhood. We dropped in for a couple of deli breakfast sandwiches and we’re not disappointed. We both created our own sandwiches inspired by some of their preselected options while adding our own touch. The flavors were great, the bagels were good quality, and we saved a part of one to bring with us just so we can have it again. Great selection of snacks and drinks. Looks like they have a cafe but we did not check that out. It smelt very good though! Stop in if you are in the area!

Note you have to take your ticket from the machine you order on to the cashier our front, then take it with you back to the deli when they call your number. The cashier will give you a stamp to show you paid.“

“I just want to recognize the staff at A Cut Above Deli. They truly are "a cut above". Short back story...my grandma was diagnosed with small cell lung carcinoma almost a year ago, October 2025. She was born in Media, Pennsylvania and spent a lot of time there with her grandparents. She turned 80 this past September and it had been over 40yrs since she was there. One thing she wanted to do before she died was go back to Pennsylvania and get a hoagie, a steak sandwich, tasty cakes and see the places she grew up. we did just that on September 13, 14 & 15. The cancer spread to her brain and words were not so easy. I believe his name was Tony, he was taking our very large order to take hoagies back to South Bend, IN, and words were hard for her. Tony was patient, kind and so caring. they all treated her as if she was their own grandma. I told Tony the impact that made because of why we were there and he asked if he could hug me and thank me for telling him her story. She talked about the entire staff multiple times on the 10hr car ride home and how they made her trip. It felt like it did when she was a little girl. Food is powerful. A Cut Above Deli was slammin' that day, but the staff didn't rush us, they didn't appear annoyed with us and they took our food to the car without even knowing the back story yet. Sadly, my grandma passed away on October 2nd at 659am, but that visit to your deli, the smile on her face, the impact you had on her, will forever be in my memory. I dont even think she ever ate her hoagies because when we got home she did nothing but sleep, but what I will tell you is that I truly believe, deep in my soul, that you fulfilled her dying wish with empathy and compassion and I will forever be grateful to the staff there. Thank you for the delicious hoagies as well because I definitely ate mine! I don't know that I'll ever make it back there, but I hope I do again one day!“

“Update: I came back a second time and got one of their Aracini balls with eggplant. All I can say is WOOOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!! It was to die for. Literally so amazing with the homemade tomato sauce they give you on the side. I heated it up in the air fryer when I got home and it was perfectly crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. I am gonna be craving it like no other until I can get my hands on one again. I still gotta come back for the chicken meatballs!!!!

Original: I saw this place on instagram reel's and after 5 years of living in Philly I wish I would've found it sooner. I saw a video about their Reaper sandwich which comes with longhot mayo, chicken cutlet, hot soppressata, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. I have been dying to try and it did not disappoint. I had to get it without the soppressata because I don't eat pork. This sandwich was one of the best I've ever had in my life and not to mention it was ginormous. It wasn't very spicy at all but I do have a high spice tolerance so that could be part of the problem on top of not including the hot soppressata. The bread was absolutely fantastic and the chicken cutlet was perfect. I know for sure I will be back again in the future. I saw on instagram they also sell chicken longhot meatballs that I want to try soooo badly. On top of my great sandwich, the staff was also very welcoming and friendly.“

“Chester staple. I've never had a bad hoagie from Lee's and that's saying alot these days. They pack the meat on the bottom AND the top unlike some other weird hoagie shops. The regular sized hoagie is enough to feed two people.“

“This place is a good fit for Center City. It’s open late, which is handy. Most of the things are reasonably priced, although if something is clearly priced too expensively, you can just avoid purchasing it. It’s quite handy, and has a bodega/corner store vibe to it, which is cool since it’s located in Center City, Philadelphia, and often you only find stores like it in other parts of the city like Spanish bodegas. The drink selection is similar to what you can find in those types of stores throughout the city, which offers that kind of different selection, which I like.
