“I'm a historian. In my recent researches I found that there were several Catholic churches built in the Philadelphia area that were torn down suddenly in the 1800s and this Applebee's location was built atop one of them. The researches aren't clear why they were torn down so quickly and hidden from the historical record but there was also a scandal of priests studying dark texts at the same time, also hidden from history.When stepping across the threshold I felt a chill run down my spine. I was seated promptly and color drained from everything in my view. My server Nadia was very nice, I appreciated her attentiveness and prompt and courteous demeanor. Stepping into the bathroom I did note that the foundation seemed to be cracking and a curl of a mist casting a sense of gloom was emerging from this chasm.I knelt down and a sulfurous hint of brimstone hit me. I assume this was a plumbing issue, which will probably be resolved soon. Leaving the bathroom and passing by the kitchen door as it swung open, the seating area was struck in the sharp shadows of intense flames dancing across the walls. There were also screams.I can recommend the grilled chicken and shrimp dish, but would not recommend the Mac and cheese dish.“
“This place offers some of the most delicious and incredible vegan/vegetarian items ever!! Jeff, the owner/chef, is super creative and talented! I had the yuba hoagie, which was so divine that I finished the whole thing! If you love garlic, the toum dipping sauce that comes with the za'atar fries is unreal! I also had the cauliflower salad with the tahini dressing. The combo was unmatched! Oh, another one of my favorites is the patty melt!! “First time trying PLNT burger - I ordered the Grilled Chik'N Sandwich with a side of the Spicy Aioli, and the Mint Cookies N' Cream OATasty Shake. The Chik'N burger was even better than expected, it tasted like real chicken and had a great texture. The Spicy Aioli was delicious as well, however not very spicy. The Mint Cookies N' Cream Shake had a strong oat milk flavor that I could not shake off, and I couldn't taste the mint flavoring at all. I personally would not order the shake again, but I would definitely order the Chik'N sandwich again!“

The steak was juicy, the "cheese whiz" (melted nacho cheese) gave the sandwich a touch more moisture, and the bun was fresh, soft and chewy. The veggie burger, vegetable wrap, and red pepper hummus with pita are all vegan. Yay! If you're into meat, you've got loads of options. Food spans a cross between gastro pub and dive bar (read: soups, chili, wings, steak tip sandwiches; quesadilla, nachos, and a variety of sandwiches.) Prices are reasonable and sandwiches come with fries or salad. The beer list is pretty long for a neighborhood watering hole. I snagged a pint of a great black lager, and also tried the Fiddlehead white which was nice too. There were about eight brews on draft and double that number in cans and bottles, plus ciders. Sitting under a tree trapped up in fairy lights on the outdoor patio was quite nice. Indoors is dark wood and a long bar and TV screens. Good place for sports fans or biergarten lunchers. We ordered the Peach Cobbler French Toast, the Cinnamon Bun French Toast and a side order of bacon. Our server asked what our crispness preference for the bacon was, which I've never been asked before and it was served exactly as requested. The portions are massive and very flavorful and fresh. “For us, this is the “Year of the Diner” and the Mayfair did not disappoint. It is a large diner with the usual diner fare. Our waitress was great! Friendly and accommodating to our requests. The food was good, served quickly. The shredded potatoes with crunchy edges were a surprise. The diner is accessible, with wide isles, plenty of open tables and roomy booths. The staff sang happy birthday to a 5 year old behind us. Very sweet. Lots of families. The spaces in the parking lot are on the small side, so cars are very close to each other, making it difficult to get in/out of the car doors. There is also street parking right in front of the diner.“
