“I went to Alma twice during my 4 day trip to Montreal. I had the hulk salad and both the detox & cloud smoothies. Everything was delicious. Also the staff were really kind, and able to help me out since I don’t speak French fluently. The location and the vibe inside the cafe is really trendy and bright. “This particular location has very little atmosphere as it's located in the food court of les galeries d'anjou, so don't take that as a negative against the restaurant itself. For the food, the veggies are always fresh crunchy, the sauces are each unique and tasty and the bases are a good addition. However, quite often the chicken is over cooked and on the dry, tough side, rather than tender. The sauces used to flavour the chicken are hit and miss as far as actually being able to taste the differences between them. On the upside, the service is always quick and efficient. When there's a queue, you won't be waiting long.“

“I really love salads so I was drawn to this “gourmet salad” location that reviews had raved about.

For roughly $17, it’s certainly expensive for a salad but comparable to the prices outside these days.

Highlights:
A. the dressing. I wasn’t expecting much but I agree now with others that it is quite the standout! More than sufficient and complemented the salad very well.
B. The avocado - generous portion (a quarter or half) and perfectly ripe and creamy.
C. Crunchy noodles - added texture to the salad

Areas of Improvement:
A. Had added extra sweet potato. Can’t tell from the photo but they weren’t very generous with the addition despite paying an extra amount to this. Was also diced so small I didn’t really even notice it in the salad. Would personally skip the additions again if I knew.
B. No utensils or napkins in the bag. Luckily I was able to find another place that offered me that but normally it’s offered already in the sealed takeout bag.
C. Lettuce size - agree with what someone else had said. It was a rather big leaf to eat sometimes and wish it was just a bit more refined.

“We have a location in Toronto, but the first time I tried Mandy's is at this location in Montreal. I never thought I'd go to a salad bar or restaurant because I figured, what's the big deal with salad? However, my sister really likes salad so I took her here because well Mandy's is known for salad.

I was actually impressed! I got a steak salad and the greens were really fresh and there was a lot of salad in my bowl. The quantity is a lot and I wasn't sure if I could even finish it. Yes, I was almost not able to finish a bowl of salad. They are very generous with the portion for the price you pay and the dressing is actually quite good. I felt like a rabbit the whole time and my sister really enjoyed her salad.

The customer service is also very kind as well which I appreciated. They offered to make my sister another salad because of a potential allergy but it wasn't needed.

If you're looking for a healthy lunch and to get your veggies in, Mandy's salads is the spot! I would definitely probably go again!“

But beyond the *incredible* dining experience, it was meeting and having the opportunity to speak with Sona that made the visit so beautifully special: her warmth, her stories, and her pride in Armenian culture made me feel both welcomed to Montreal and connected to a wider, generous global community.
