“was strolling around Verdun with no particular plan, just letting my instincts guide me… and wow, what a great decision it was to walk into I Am Pho! From the very first moment, the place gives off a warm and welcoming vibe — clean, cozy, and filled with that delicious aroma that instantly makes you hungry and curious to try everything.

We ordered a few dishes, and honestly, it turned out to be one of the best Vietnamese food experiences we’ve had in Montreal. The flavors were perfectly balanced — tasty, authentic, and clearly prepared with care. The portions are generous (you definitely won’t leave hungry!), and the prices are more than fair for the quality and quantity they offer.

My husband ordered the beef pho, and I have to mention that it was the first time he ever finished an entire bowl — and that’s saying something, since he almost never eats meat! I tried a few bites too, and it was absolutely delicious — fresh ingredients, great texture, and a comforting broth that felt homemade.

Without a doubt, I Am Pho just gained a couple of loyal new customers. When food is made with passion and respect for the craft, you can taste it in every bite. This place is a hidden gem in Verdun that deserves all the praise it can get.

“My friend and I love the wonton soup here and the Vietnamese iced coffee! The price is fair and the environment is quiet. Best part, the extra large wonton soup is big enough to split between both of us. We each got 10 wonton and some noodles for a total of $19.10 before tax. The ice coffee was $6.60 and super creamy! I would definitely recommend trying this place out.“

“Premier essai aujourd'hui pour deux : on a pris la soupe Pho Tai #10 et le poulet sauté à la citronnelle #33 et c'était vraiment trop bon. Le boeuf de la pho est vraiment tendre et les saveurs du #33 étaient immédiatement excellentes et au dessus de nos attentes à la première bouchée. Ils ont probablement le meilleur poulet citronnelle de Montréal, voir du Québec.“

“This small place offered comforting phở soup. The decor was simple, bright and very clean. The service was novice. The phở Tái was good, with soft light-textured noodles, but the broth was overpowered by star anise. The cà phê sữa đá lacked the bold flavor expected of a traditional Vietnamese coffee.“

“Checked out Bun Mam Ninh Kieu for a late weekday lunch. Food came out incredibly quick. A lot of hard to find dishes on their menu (bun oc, bun cha ca, banh khot, banh bot loc).

- Banh xeo ($17.00) - probably the best Vietnamese crepe I’ve had in a long time. Two large crispy portions with bean sprouts, shrimp, pork, onion and the usual side accompaniments
- Bun mam ($17.00) - shrimp, BBQ pork, fish, squid, eggplant and okra. Broth had good depth; liked the funky, slightly pungent flavour“

For those with electric vehicles down the street below St Catherine's there are 4 level 2 chargers so you can charge your car while enjoying this restaurant for 1 dollar an hour charge rate. “I ordered chicken and pork sausage banh mi. Very tasty. The sandwich is also bigger than the typical banh mi. I was full after only one, which is not usually the case with other places.

There was only 2 staff, so service was quite long - 15 minutes.m, but there were 6 customers before. I suggest if possible to order in advance before pick up.

The place is small but cozy. You can eat on site also. There are someAsian sauces and noodles sold there also.“

“I stumbled upon this place on a weekend getaway with my husband. The bahn mi is so good that my husband and I picked up the grilled chicken and the classic ham bahn mi on friday night for supper and we went back again on Sunday for lunch before heading home. “Great neighborhood restaurant. I have been passing by since I moved into the area and was not disappointed once I decided to step in.

Our meal started with the imperial rolls (cha gio) and the papaya salad (without beef). The rolls were in my opinion the star of the night; generously filled and simply delicious. These are the imperial rolls you always hope for but rarely get. The papaya salad was fresh and well dressed - not spicy as their Thai counterpart usually is.

We followed our meal with bahn xeo - a crispy Vietnamese omelette/crêpe that was filled with chicken and a generous amount of bean sprouts, and Bun Cha Hanoi. The airy and crispy texture of the crepe is addictive to say the least and very enjoyable. The grilled bun cha meat was also very tasty!

In sum, Y Lan is a great restaurant where you can be sure to enjoy a great meal with great service.

“Got the #20 clay pot fish with a side of rice about 4 months ago and it was so flavorful and fragrant I still think about it quite often. Owners were friendly and helping despite barely speaking an ounce of French or English and prices were more than fair. I wish whoever runs that place the best genuinely never close this place down ever.“
