“We enjoyed having breakfast at this wonderful place while in Newport, RI. The people who own it and those who work there are AMAZING, friendly, and take the time to talk to customers while keeping service at the top of their list. They (from the kitchen to the front door) look like they love working there and have created a loving family environment. Of course, the line was out the door and down the street, but that was okay because everyone enjoyed visiting each other. There is just one warning, the portions are enormous. You know when my husband can't finish it, it's a lot. 🤣”

“It was delicious. The food was really good and the atmosphere was so comfortable. Our bartender Rowen was on top of it. The kitchen went out of their way to make our experience the best. Oooh and the tiramisu was so yummy. Thank you all for a wonderful meal.”

“Stephanie was an exceptional bartender—easily one of the best servers we've ever had. She was incredibly knowledgeable about gluten-free options, which made a huge difference for us. Her attention to detail was impressive, from promptly changing out silverware between courses to keeping our drinks filled without us ever needing to ask. The food was outstanding! The carpaccio was the best we’ve had, and the gluten-free s’mores dessert was absolutely delicious—a perfect ending to the meal. The atmosphere had a great vibe with stunning views, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back!”

“We had another wonderful meal at The Food Shack tonight. My dad and I shared the nachos which were superb and my daughter enjoyed her rice bowl. And don’t forget a side of plantains! Also they serve local beer now which is a bonus. You need to eat here!”

The service was good and the staff very friendly.

The chicken quality was excellent, but I would say for me it’s over seasoned and that makes the outside breading hard and somewhat dry. You can overcome this by adding more Dave’s sauce and pickles, but overall it wasn’t anything super special.

Fries are a bit boring, just basic crinkle fries with some kind of old bay seasoning.

For me it doesn’t rank above many other main stream Chicken shops. I Would not make a special trip for it, but would go back again.”

My partner tried the Arriva grain bowl, which was fresh and layered with flavor without being heavy. Both dishes tasted well thought out and clearly made with care. Prices seemed reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Service was friendly, and things came out at a steady pace. Overall, Root feels like a solid place to go for a good vegan meal in town. “It was my wife and I’s first time in RI, and this was the best experience we have had since. Definitely our favorite part of the trip. The steak frites was cooked to perfection and flavor. My wife got the bolognese and 👌🏽. 10/10 would and will come again!”

“We were vacationing in Newport from Wisconsin and stopped in at Cappy’s. Sue the bartender was friendly and a wonderful bartender. The owner Joe, what can I say….what a guy! Joe saw us walking to our Airbnb and yelled at us on the street asking when we were headed back home. Joe is a gem of a bartender. He has a gift of gab and can hand out the bs too. Nice local establishment with friendly customers and bartenders. We had Dan as a bartender too and he was a friendly, great guy! “Spectacular dining experience between the service, Sarah and Olivia were phenomenal! The food, the scratch made fettuccine was perfectly cooked and coated with the hearty bolognese full of flavor, the eggplant app was mouthwatering and the Gorgonzola dip w/ garlic bread was incredible- they should bottle the stuff! The atmosphere was inviting and full of locals who were eager to share their recommendations! 10/10 will be back!”
