“This was my first food truck visit in the city, and it was a great experience overall. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and I appreciated that they gave out buzzers so you could relax in your car while waiting for your order!

I came mainly for the Birria Tacos with the dipping sauce. Unfortunately, they were a bit of a letdown this time, very mild in flavor, even with the sauce. It almost seemed like the seasoning was forgotten, and the shells, though fried, had become somewhat soggy by the time I received them. Hopefully, that was just an off day because I really wanted to love them.

On the bright side, the Chicken Quesadilla was fantastic! Perfectly seasoned, hearty, and packed with flavor it completely made the visit worth it. I’ll definitely be coming back to give the Birria Tacos another shot and will update my review after I do.

“I had such an outstanding experience at Las Tortugas that I had to share a full review. From the moment I walked in, the warm greeting and colorful, inviting atmosphere made me feel instantly comfortable. The staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care that every guest was having a great time. They checked in often enough to be helpful without ever making me feel rushed.

The highlight, without question, was the tacos. They were absolutely phenomenal—fresh, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor in every bite. You can tell the ingredients are high quality and prepared with real pride. The tortillas had that warm, soft, homemade feel, and each taco had a great balance of textures and toppings. The chips and salsa were just as impressive, with crispy chips and a salsa that tasted bright, fresh, and made in-house.

I also ordered a cold beer, and it paired perfectly with the meal. It was refreshing, crisp, and served at just the right temperature—simple, but exactly what I wanted to enjoy with great tacos. Everything about Las Tortugas feels thoughtful, clean, and well-run.

This is the kind of restaurant you immediately want to return to, whether for a quick meal or a relaxed night out. Highly recommended to anyone who loves truly great tacos!“

“To be honest, I lived in Texas for a few years and my hopes for Memphis Mexican restaurants were not high. However, I’m pregnant and I was craving authentic Mexican food really bad. I looked at photos of every Mexican restaurant in Memphis to try to find the one that looked like the most authentic atmosphere and I landed on El Mezcal. We showed up on Saturday night at 7pm and were seated immediately. The second we were seated, they already brought us chips and salsa and were asking for our drink orders. We unfortunately didn’t catch our server’s name, but it was her first day and she was absolutely on top of it. We ordered nachos with chicken, Burritos Azteca, and Fajitas. I don’t remember the type of fajitas, but it had chicken, shrimp, steak, and cactus on it. All the food was absolutely phenomenal, large portions, and by far worth the cost, which was only right under $60. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, definitely the best experience I ever could have hoped for. Thank you!“

“This place genuinely serves the best tacos and burritos I've ever had in my life. As someone who travels for works and has the singular pleasure of trying eateries from around the country, I have never and I mean ever come across a restaurant, mind you a food stand with Mexican food as genuine as this. If you've never been here or are traveling through, you have to try this place!!! The Asada tacos I got were LOADED and tasted amazing. Their Pastor burrito, no joke, brought a damn tear to my eye it was so good.

“The best Mexican food in town. My go to is Grilled Chicken Fajitas Quesadilla. So yummy!!!
If you are like me and love spicy food and if it isn't spicy enough for you, definitely try the tomatillo salsa. I always get this for the chips and then drizzle a bit on my quesadilla. Gives it a very strong kick 😁😉“

“My family and I went in and were somewhat apprehensive after the last restaurant we went to. However as soon as we walked in the staff was incredibly friendly. The place was clean and had a fun atmosphere where you could either listen to music, watch tv, or simply talk to the people you came with. The food portions were huge. It was so good. Our waiter was on top of everything. Overall I definitely recommend this place to anyone that wants great food!“

I think my SIL said they seemed down a waiter so service was a bit slow but not bad. They have a large menu so I will definitely come back next time I visit!!“
