“Come here, you won't regret it! Excellent food and excellent service. I'm not from here, and didn't know what to get, the waitress gave me several suggestions and even helped me get the portion size just right! The waitresses gave me samples of the drinks and I HAD to get the strawberry, so delicious! I ended up getting the birria tacos and they are phenomenal. I will absolutely be returning to Chukis next time I'm visiting Memphis!“

The asada steak was delicious too. Only complaint or request would be if they offered escabeche (pickled jalapeños and carrots).... This would take it over the edge. Definitely will return! Best taqueria in town so far!

“Went here on the whim and wasn't disappointed. We got 3 tacos. The republican (brisket), Baja Shrimp and Brushfire (chicken). All 3 tacos were good, 8.4/10. The republican came with a good portion of meat which surprised me. The only downside is the appetizer of Tots were a very small serving. There was maybe 4 or 5 tots. It was good but not anything special.

Overall I would come again to try other tacos.“

“Hidden gem. got the good rice, good soup like grandma makes. Give plenty of sides if you order the soup. They use good tortillas and not no stale ones, price is decent. Drinks come in a big glass. Outlets on wall work so you can chill up here and charge your phone. Staff is nice, they have a Roku TV. Clean.“

“Taco nganas is super legit like the best taco truck in town. They're not voted best in town for no reason. It isn't the most authentic as far as traditional authentic style but they are the best. My daughter also loves ramen, its like "her thing", and taco nganas birria Ramen bowl is so delicious and flavorful. Thier shrimp tacos are absolutely fire! I was even blown away at the incredible flavor of something so simple as a quesadilla. Literally everything the do is the best a step above the rest. Thier prices are a slight bit higher than average taco truck prices but theres a good reason for it. The extra steps and preparations they put into each item being top notch is worth it. This place is a must to every taco truck lover for sure.“

“The waitress was so sweet, I'm from Indiana, and I wasn't aware of the hour difference in Tennessee. We arrived at the restaurant an hour earlier than what they usually open to, but they were nice enough to let about 20 of us in and they were fast on making the food, it was an amazing experience! I highly recommend this place, on our way back to Indiana, we stopped to get to-go food on the road ♡“

“This is not an eat in spot and not the tamale that most would think of. It's a small business owner and the tamales are SOOO good! You can get regular or hot with the option of getting crackers or a variety of soda choices.

There is construction that has recently blocked his parking spots, but you can just pull on the side street to gain access to the front door. You will be in and out in a flash!“

“Hands down, no exception, beyond a reasonable doubt, unequivocally.... the best tacos in town! I need to figure out how I ordered the first time because they were dipped in a red broth or something, and it was amazing! Love all the tacos I have ordered so far.
I can't wait to go back again and again!!!
Service is great and if you're somewhat in a hurry, this should be your go-to.

“The food here is really good and fresh and the restaurant is clean, but I find the prices are a bit steep for counter service and food served in a plastic basket. This is not a relax with friends restaurant, it’s eat quick and go as the East Memphis space is a bit sterile. In contrast, Uncle Goyo has tall backed booths and piled high street tacos for $3.50 each. Not to mention margaritas! Having said that, Las Tortugas is definitely not your typical take on Mexican food. If you want some relatively quick counter service and you aren’t scared by at least $20/person, give it a try.“

“I was passing through on a road trip and this place caught my eye. Great food, great service, authentic TexMex food. As good as the TexMex we have in Texas, maybe better. Excellent fresh home made hot sauce with a kick. They also have a full service bar, but I was driving and could not partake. All in all, an excellent restaurant with a small town feel right in Memphis not too far off of I-40.“

To that extent, I'm a huge foodie so I love all sorts of food and have had variations of Mexican food from several different countries; my palate can attest to that. So, with all that being said -- this place serves pretty solid Mexican food. I've tried margarita storm, charlie browns, and a few others. They all have their merits, and honestly, most of these places charge an arm and a leg for a damn taco. lol So give these guys a break. Overall, the food in my experience at least, has tasted great. Service was pretty good too; it's a small place, but they've recently moved to a new location which I love. Their pricing isn't bad, like at all lol. And their taco tuesay, don't even get me started on the variety you get from this place. It's awesome. Their horchata, not bad. Beer selection, also not bad. Overall, this place isn't bad at all. Now, is the best? hmmm, perhaps not, but it meets my needs and I'm happy with that tbh. If you want gourmet mexican food in thailand, expect to pay accordingly.“

“They have a great selection of Mexican meals and the tacos are really good. My recommendation is carnitas and tongue tacos. The agua fresca Is really good. You can have a feast with $20. The ambiance is like a restaurant you'll find in Mexico. The green salsa is supreme. The staff is really friendly and speak both Spanish and English. It's my second time coming but won't be the last while I stay in TN. Felicidades a todo el personal, los tacos están deliciosos ??“

“Very authentic Mexican ice cream place. Very low-key . Super good quality snacks and sweets. Totally recommend!!! I prefer going here rather than La Michoacána.

Kid-friendliness: Very accommodating. They have seats and tables for the children to sit. And even have a tv they sometimes play kid movies on. The whole store look very vibrant and attractive to the eye. Kids will enjoy being in here to eat some treats !

Parking: The parking is Infront of the store. However because the store is low key there's not much space to park. You would need to mainly park in the store next to it to have good and safe parking.“

“To James M.- it’s absolutely obvious why they (along with a few other restaurants) have added the 20 percent onto your check. Take a look around. No one is going to stay staffed when servers are getting two dollars despite what the bill is. Absolutely necessary. I live in Nashville and it is obvious.“

“Homemade tortillas. That alone should be enough for you to go and eat there. But the meat was some of the best seasoned I’ve ever had. The salsa was also different (not the normal red and green/ roja y verde) tasty with a kick. A strong kick it is spicy but has flavor. Any place that serves chicharron is getting a 5 from me, but they cooked the chicharron in a good way.The service is also good. Their set up makes sense from Memphis (I was born and raised here, I can say that). The service is great! Learn a little Español/Spanish and get you some good food made by good people.“
