I have been here only twice but have enjoyed it both times. My brokerage is close by and it’s great after a long day of work. Happy hour is my thing! We had great apps, amazing tacos(ribeye was the favorite) and the drinks were delightful. I had a house margarita and my friend tried two of the mocktails. He was super impressed with them. We love this place and will return, but their service this time was the pits. At different times we asked for ice, glasses for the pitcher of margarita, limes and salsa. Each time, waitress forgot and would have to be reminded to bring it out. The clincher was when she delivered our meal, she told one in our group that what she’d ordered was unavailable. La Popular Austin is a lovely place to eat with fantastic tacos and churros to die for. The nachos starter is wonderful with the right balance of spices. The Quesabirria, Carnitas, and Campechano tacos are especially outstanding. The food is really tasty with great flavors and the margaritas are good. The vibe is dark and stylish, kind of like a nightclub. It is a huge value add to the area and very consistent. Service is usually friendly and efficient, though it feels limited and things don’t flow as quickly as they should. It’s a must-visit for good Mexican food, and don’t forget to try their chili pepper powder mango lollipops at the end of the meal. Highly recommended.
