“Love the ambiance, several different areas w different vibes. I love the deck but the mulched area is nice to hang out at with the kids (there's a small playground). It's family friendly until 9 PM. This is somewhere sometimes to work and have a copy, to have a happy hour drink and catch up with a friend, to meet a friend with other kids and let them play while we catch up and eat tacos at the food truck, and a great spot in the neighborhood to have little date night. We even rang in the new year at Progress. The service is super friendly and helpful.“

“We finally went last night for our first visit ever! It won’t be our last. Seriously the most delicious shrimp and grits I’ve ever had. The other one in town down the street doesn’t even come close! Hubby had the meatloaf which was amazing as well! The owner was so nice and had a good chat with us while we were waiting for our food. Can’t wait to eat my leftovers today!“

“I want to give a shout out to a wonderful new restaurant here in South Austin, specifically the Brodie/Slaughter area. It's called The Local, and it's a delight. The decor is warm and inviting--no chrome or glass and no tvs blaring sports. We were pleased to see that the place was busy at 7 on a Tuesday, it's such a welcoming sound. The food was perfectly prepared and artfully presented, simple, no frufru. The service was terrific, sharp, prompt and helpful. We met the owner and were delighted to learn that this is not part of a chain or even a 'group' as they call them now, but a single family operation. We'd love to see them succeed, if only for the slightly selfish reason that it's nice to go to a good restaurant without having to drive a long way. It's just a few minutes down the street and you may be sure we'll be going back. We need more of these kinds of joints down here. Fair warning, it's not cheap, but then what is these days?“

“My specific reason for doing the news review is not the food.
I think that their Irish cream coffee is absolutely off the charts.
Delicious superbly crafted.
I think at this location breakfast is good. It doesn’t blow me away.
One constant is there coffee. Very rich and robust.
For a coffee connoisseur I think it’s a really must try“

“Well I would say yes & no! Nice place but the way the tables are set up is horrible. There isn’t a stage so if you are sitting at the small tables you can’t see the band that is performing because the higher table are in front. I think that the higher tables should go against the wall where the picnic table is or towards the back and the smaller tables should be up front. There are some people who are unable to sit and the higher tables but are unable to see the band other then that’s it’s a pretty nice place.“

“If you're searching for an authentic, vibrant Mexican dining experience in Austin, look no further than Flores. This local gem truly excels on all fronts, making it a standout choice for anyone craving incredible food, expertly crafted drinks, and excelllent service.
The culinary journey at Flores absolutely must begin with their Queso Flameado. It's a revelation – a sizzling, bubbling skillet of melted cheese, often with your choice of chorizo or mushrooms, served with warm tortillas ready to scoop up every irresistible, gooey bite. It's rich, flavorful, and dangerously addictive, setting the perfect tone for the meal to come. Complementing the bold flavors of the food, their martinis are nothing short of excellent. Expertly mixed and wonderfully potent, they offer a sophisticated counterpoint to the lively dishes, ensuring every sip is as enjoyable as every bite.
Beyond the exquisite food and drink, what truly sets Flores apart is its exceptional customer service. From the moment you step through the door, you're greeted with genuine warmth and attentiveness. The staff are knowledgeable about the menu, quick to offer recommendations, and always ensure your glass is full and your needs are met without being intrusive. It creates an atmosphere that feels both professional and incredibly welcoming, making you feel like a valued guest rather than just another customer. Flores isn't just a meal; it's a complete dining experience, and one you'll be eager to repeat. Highly recommended!“

“Under the new ownership since this past summer, this local favorite spot is reclaiming its charm and developing it's own new and unique style by revamping the menu, redecorating the interior and bringing back live music! ;) I find myself just stopping by in the afternoon because it is always a super welcoming vibe, the food is amazing and the staff is very generous and attentive. 🤘 5/5 stars“

“The good was great. We came here because we like the Gabriela's downtown. Did not disappoint. We started off with paleta shots and some drinks. The drinks were great. We had some poppers and bacon wrapped shrimp to start. The poppers smelled spicier than they really work. There could have been a bit more bacon for the large jalapeño. I had the tacos dorados. So good. Ordered them as is. My partner had the shrimp cocktail and said it was too spicy. To be fair, she can't really do a lot of spice so probably not that bad. All and all, great place. It was noisy since there was a DJ but I didn't go there expecting to be at a peaceful restaurant.“
