“Visiting Fredericksburg this week, we arrived on Tuesday and couldn't check into our hotel until 2pm, so we looked for a place to grab some lunch. Old German bakery was nearby and we chose that. It seemed quite crowded with a good number of people outside. We went in and were told to add our names to the list and we would be called.
We waited roughly about 30 minutes and got a table. The place was packed full of people and very little moving room inside.
Our server was Aaron. He was very attentive and patient with us. We placed quite a significant order involving both breakfast and lunch. I went up to the counter to check on deserts and saw several that I was interested in. Making the purchase for the deserts wasn't a problem except I didn't get any kind of receipt and when I inquired, I found it was going to be complicated to get one now.
Lunch was interesting. The Jaegerschnitzel was very, very good and the red cabbage had a nice punch to it. My wife wasn't too happy with the Reuben. She said there was no real flavour and the rye bread had no flavour, nor did the sauerkraut. I tasted it and thought it was okay. The meat was very good. The potato salad was good as were the fried potatoes.
There is only one working restroom. The other one is down. The waiting line for the restroom was a little lengthy at one point. It would be to the benefit of the owner to repair the other restroom in the very near future. It is needed.
Overall, for a one time visit it was okay. Would we return for another visit, most likely. The prices were decent and the food was very good. The restaurant won't be open again while we are here.
Our cost for deserts was $11 and the cost for our meals came up to be just over $71.
Note to owners - Keep Aaron! He is a definite asset to your business. It is rare to find great wait staff anymore these days. He was professional and courteous, very attentive and cared about the job he was doing. KEEP THIS MAN!“

“I’m not sure where to begin. My husband and I ate lunch on the back patio today with our dog, Dino. We were promptly greeted by our server Jo, who must have written the manual on great service. She was attentive, witty and full of information. Our food was equally as great, we’ve eaten quite a bit of bratwurst in this town in the past 5 weeks, and theirs is lights out. Oh, and to top it off the live music was awesome, check their schedule so you don’t miss Cliff Crawford.“

“Ever was an excellent server. He check on us several times. Our lunch was absolutely delicious. We were seated right away. Great atmosphere. We were waited on, served and out in 45 minutes. We were there for lunch at 12:30 pm. We highly recommend this place for some great German food. This is the 3rd time I have been there and the food is always great. 10/13/2022“

“The schnitzel was delicious. The potato salad and red cabbage were okay, just not what I am used to. I've grown up with homemade potato salad (chunky and served cold) and red cabbage, and this potato salad was more similar to slightly sweet mashed potatoes (served warm), while the red cabbage was also a bit too sweet for my taste.
Loved the atmosphere, old stone walls and cozy finishes. And the waitresses were very welcoming and helpful.“

“We really enjoyed our dinner at Rathskeller. I had the blackened Mahi Mahi and it was delicious. My husband said the Heavenly Tilapia was the best he’s ever had. The rice pilaf wasn’t bad, but it was more of a Spanish rice IMO. I enjoyed the cheddar mashed potatoes, but my husband was not impressed with them. Over all, our dinner was wonderful and the service was great. We’d go back again!“

“I've never been to the brick & mortor location, but man I look for their beers every single time at HEB. It's a hard 1 to find on the shelves, but if you can get their Altibier (green label) in glass bottles, you've struck gold! I've had the Kolsch, Lager & Altbier & all of them are superb. Sometimes I will travel 35 miles just to get that green label. Highly recommend!“

“Our first visit to Fredericksburg was today and we decided to have lunch here. I highly recommend, as the waiter was friendly, polite. The food was amazing. If you like chicken fried steak, it's a must get. Very delicious. Fried pickles we're delicious, thinly cut, lightly battered. My husband's chicken sandwich was fresh, crispy and delicious. The waiter was very attentive with refills on drinks and than we got dessert free of charge. An excellent experience. Thank you for a wonderful meal. The Rier's from Maine“

“Not only is the food amazing, the service is excellent, they were able to seat us regardless of a full reservation system, and the atmosphere was unforgettable! We can’t wait to return.“
