We've got Los Fresnos' top Mexican restaurants covered for you.
“Tapias Cafe has the best Tortillas! to the Tortilla makers! The staff is wonderful and So Sweet! Everytime I go there I feel right at home!Kid-friendliness: The wonderful waiter always tries his hardest to accommodate all the families! You are doing a Great Job!“
“Everytime we eat here it's always s great time the at home feel is awesome and the service to go with it is great the gentleman that waits on us always remembers frequent guests like myself and always greets us with a comforting familiarity. Over all 10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone passing through our small town of Los Fresnos TX. Any plate you order is very well served and they are not stingy with the portions and i must recommend the ice tea.“
“Totally different menu.I was expecting to get regular tacos but nope!! Huge 11" Tortillas.Food tasted good and their complimentary fideo with beans was delicious.Carne Guisada had tons of cumin (not my favorite) but it was okay.I had the chile relleno and could've been "asado" a bit better.Overall, it satisfied my hunger and craving. Lots of food and for a reasonable price.“
“This local Mexican restaurant has been around for decades and it's a popular place for locals and visitors alike, since it's on the main road and on the way to South Padre Island. We decided to give it a try on a Friday since now they are open Thursday and Friday until 8p.m. instead of closing at 4p.m. I got the entomatadas plate with rice and beans and the overall flavor was pretty good. My husband got the fish plate that comes with salad and French fries. Depending on how much fish they have on any given day, they have an all you can eat fish deal. Our server Erika was friendly and helpful. Julia the owner was around and took a few minutes to talk to us. We went pretty early, 4p.m., so there weren't that many people there but as we were leaving, more people were starting to come in. The atmosphere is somewhat quiet and everything looked clean. Too bad they don't currently have a liquor license and they ran out of flan, which I wanted to try.“
“I wrote my college thesis on this place, due to it being the best restaurant within 15,000 miles (yes that covers the entire world)and the topic of my college thesis was:"How good can a restaurant get? The Texi Mexi Story"This place might as well be placed on Fifth Avenue in New York City, with prices of $30 per taco, because that's what most people would be willing to pay for this place after they have tried their tacos. Thank Heavens it isn't in New York where all the pretentious foodies would be lining up around the block for what many believe to be the best tacos in Los Fresnos. The prices though... I mean you can't beat 6 dollars for a meal of several tacos, charro beans and chips and salsa, I mean (in the voice of Jimmy from South Park) come on!I come to this place quite often, and by quite often I mean several times a week. I walk in the door, the manager behind the counter gives me a quick wink (not in any weird sexual way, more like a "i'm ready to rock your tastebuds kinda way") I sit down and he automatically knows I want the fajita combo with an horchata. I sit for 5.2 minutes (the perfect amount of time for someone to wait, enough time to think about how you're currently in heaven, but not enough to think it's taking long for your food). Juicy, greasy (in a damn good way) meat on delicious tortillas covered in white cheese, avocado and your choice of red or green salsa. Damn! You've arrived my friends... you've arrived.Anyway to top off my review, I got a 110/100 on my college thesis, you know why? My professor thought it was a dumb topic, gave me a 68/100, and then drove all the way from Idaho to the valley to try these tacos, as soon as he took that first bite, he changed it to 110%. True story y'all.2020 COVID19 edit:These guys are still churning out delicious food to-go at an outrageous pace. Keep them chugging along and patronize them. They deserve it.2021 Edit:KEEP THEM GOING! Best food in Los Fresnos.2022 Edit:I had to go to the hospital because I went into a delicious coma after eating here on 1/7/20222023 Edit:Keeping prices reasonable despite inflation. Love them the same as when they first opened. Writing this update from Taiwan and got some serious horchata withdrawals.2023 Thanksgiving Edit:Supposedly Google removed my review for some reason, updating it to make sure it’s visible still“

“Tortillas are excellent, menudo, carnitas, and barbacoa in weekends are also excellent. Their lunch plates come with main course and sides to include utensils and a soft drink for about $7. My favorite lunch plate is the bistek ranchero. Give it a try, you will be back for more.“
“Love this place, many choices of food not just tacos. They have tortas, papas rellenas, hamburgers, tostadas, flautas, sopes, and wings. Food always tastes fresh and good. Customer service is on point too and they have curbside and drive thru available as well.“
“Went to Taqueria Cuco's for the first time, and the food was delicious and excellent. Good portions for the price. The place is small, but they also offer food to go and delivery. They have specials throughout the week. Will be coming back.“
“This is our go to place for tacos. Their bistek tacos are not greasy, they are the perfect size, and always well served. I love the cheese they use here and how attentive they are to their customers needs. The ladies are very humble, they remind me of my abuelita. If you are hispanic you'll feel right at home here. Please offer your customers curbside pickup like you've so kindly done for me.“
“This place is the real deal, heavily patronized by locals. I like eating at places where we are the only non-Hispanic customers. The food was tasty and came quickly. Get the flour tortilla. It's huge and good. The huevos rancheros came with bacon, which wasn't mentioned on the menu. The weird location may fool you. You'll come to a sign on the side of the road for Elva's, but there's nothing that looks like a restaurant in sight--just a multi-story apartment-like building. Look closer. Elva's is the ground-floor unit closest to the street.“
