Restaurantji presents Harlingen's standout Mexican dining destinations.
“This place makes you feel like you are in Mexico with the decor. Our wait person also didn't understand English, which added to the ambiance for us. The food was excellent, too. This was the first place where the salsa was too spicy for us, too.“
“This is some good food. Is it the best in the RGV? Nah, but it’s definitely worth the time and the money. I would not hesitate to eat there again when in town.Everything had really good flavor. It was all a little too greasy but it wasn’t so greasy that I couldn’t eat it.The chips and salsa were excellent. My associate says the food truck is better than this sit-down restaurant. IDK but it’s still good stuff.“
“Great food, great service! The staff cooking and taking orders for the food truck side are amazing. Hustling non-stop to keep the food moving fresh and hot. The lonches were fantastic. A lot of people could learn about work ethic from these people. I tipped extra just because the service was so good.“
“One of my favorite places to eat breakfast, everyone's very friendly, plus the owner is very friendly and respectful every time he's around, if you haven't tried it, we'll your missing out, expect a line but it worth the wait ?Wheelchair accessibility: They are very fast in making sure if you're on wheel chair to make u comfortable“
“We had a great experience in this place, food was delicious, clean, fast and friendly service. The atmosphere was splendid, we went around 11 am on a Tuesday, we ordered jalapeño poppers and rib-eye chicharrones as appetizers, very tasty. We also had the quesabirria tacos and fajita tacos. Everything was bomb! The charro beans and birria consome were so good!Prices are reasonable for the quality of food and service. We definitely recommend this establishment!“
“Heading back from South Padre we decided to give this place a shot. It's a simple restaurant with a small menu. The food was amazing! I ordered chilaquiles and a picadillo with cheese taco on the side. When the food came out, WOW! The taco was huge! It was at least 12 inches long and nice and full. The chilaquiles and picadillo was so good. I highly recommend giving this place a shot for breakfast.“
“To Jeanie and her staff at Panchito’sYou have managed to become the BEST part about Harlingen. Through overcoming what Covid through at you, to reopening with limited staff, pushing through what life throws at you, the economy and it rising prices and now to your sister battling cancer(and she will persevere).Establishments like you are what we need in this town….in this world. For those that have never been, yes they are curbside. But in no way does that stop them from serving you the best, freshest food, with a smile. The food is just like grandma makes. It just makes you feel all warm and cozy, while certainly filling up the belly. My family and I love to order from here and we try to as often as we can. We love to support our local hidden gems and this restaurant is a GEM.I was compelled to write this review, because of a post on Facebook. Someone complaining of the prices of a fajita taco and they can get a better deal at Stripes. Psshh…..I DON”T THINK SO!! You cannot compare a homemade taco to a stripes taco, no way. Prices for food have skyrocketed to an unimaginable high. Gas is ridiculous! Adjustments have to be made and therefore prices must go up. They have families that depend on them. Have I ordered a fajita taco from Panchito’s…yes I have. It was the best and freshest fajita taco that I have ever had, at any local restaurant. Though I must say, the carne guisada on the large 16 inch tortilla, with rice, beans, lettuce and tomato, is my absolute favorite. The 16 inch carne guisada taco, on the menu is $18.99 and the 9 inch is $10.99. Is that too much for a taco? Not really. Is it worth it? 100% YES!! Will I order it again? ABSOLUTELY!!You pay for the quality of the food, the heart that goes into the cooking, the smile and warm greeting when it’s brought out to you. I will come back over and over again. In fact, I had Panchito’s for lunch today. I had their lunch special of Calabaza con Pollo and it was THE BEST! I may sound like I am over exaggerating but my taste buds don’t lie….and neither does my belly. With that said, Jeanie, THANK YOU. Thank you for providing your customers with excellent food and service. Thank you for all the sacrifices you have made to keep moving forward and providing Harlingen with the best homemade food. Thank you for being the light for the community and helping others in need. THANK YOU!Panchitos’ is the BEST part about Harlingen. Panchito’s IS Harlingen.“
“I've gone back a few times this is one of those places where you slowly fall in love with it wonderful staff Smiles on their face as they greet you food is prepped correctly made correctly temperatures right and the taste remind you of homemade like grandma made a plate for “
“First time & SO GOOD!Did some extensive research on what mexican restaurant to try for breakfast and happy this was the winner. We went quite early so it was dead but loved the interior, decor and servers uniforms. The place was very clean and welcoming. Bathroom was nicely decorated and the food was perfectly made with great presentation. I loved the coffee mugs so much I was happy to know they were available for purchase! (GOT 2)*There’s a patio out back*Looking forward to multiple next visits!“
“Hadn't been here in over 15 years, thought I'd come back and give it a try. Surprised hours are still the same, but either way, their food is quite tasty, very good plates, and very well served. I enjoyed my plate it consisted of carne guisada, 2 enchiladas, rice and beans, and 1 flour tortilla, which those tortillas are so good. The reason I say this is because most restaurants have this some bitter taste at times as if too much of an ingredient in the flour tortillas, and these imparticular are very good and taste Freshly off the comal. I really recommend it. I'm positive that a Taco would be amazing taste. And like I said, their food is great. The sad part is they do not serve breakfast all day, just mornings, then lunch kicks in. That I was like, hmm, so much for breakfast for me. I mean, breakfast is not just for breakfast mornings, y'all. But it is what it is.. go by and get yourself some good authentic Mexican food..“
“We have had several Wounded Warrior Project group meeting here over the last couple years, and the owners are always very attentive to us. Today we presented an official Wounded Warrior Project plaque to them to thank them for their hospitality. The food and atmosphere are always great, and the entire staff always takes great care of us and all their customers. The owners are always very visible and engaged with their customers which is great to see. Thank you for always providing us with a great experience!“
“Always love Pepe's! My favorite is the Jalapeno soup. On the appetizer menu, it is enough for a meal: chicken, rice, avocado and cheese with garnish of onion, jalapeno, cilantro. Chips and salsa are always fresh. The botana is also great. They do use Amercian cheese (I'd prefer cheddar or jack) but the fajita meat is tender and lean.“
“This place is great ? Food is delicious, staff is friendly and they're very attentive of their orders - meaning we've never gotten something we didn't order and they always provide you with limes, salsa, utensils, whatever your order needs. Plus the prices are great, especially the family packs.“
“It's in a mall that seemed pretty dead, but the tacos are absolute fire ? If I say it once, I will say it 1000 times, the best tacos in the world are in the Texas Rio Grande Valley.Crispy mini corn tortillas, flavor packed meat, raw onions, grilled onions, cilantro, queso fresco, slice of avocado, squeeze of lime, top it off with exquisite creamy Jalapeño garlic verde sauce or chili de arbol Rojo. 4 of those, a soda, frijoles charros, and a freaking loaded baked potato (papa asado) for $10!“
“Have been a regular customer since soon after they opened. The food is always delicious. They have no issue with you changing how it's prepared, like no bell peppers, extra onions, +/-cheese, swap veggies for sides, etc! They sometimes have a musician with a guitar, singing great songs. The owners, wait staff and atmosphere are always friendly, courteous, and just terrific!Dietary restrictions: Swapping sides is not a problem.Parking: Handicap spots are on each side of the main entrance.Kid-friendliness: Highchairs are available. They have two TVs. Baby changing table in ladies bathroom.Wheelchair accessibility: Level flooring, one story. All tables with no booths, so chairs can be moved out of the way. Bathrooms have grab bars.“
“This place makes the BEST breakfast tacos in the Valley HANDS DOWN. The tortillas taste homemade, the salsa has a nice kick to it. I've tried places all over the Valley and this place beats them all. Plus the people running out are AMAZING people. If you haven't visited them for a breakfast taco you're missing out.“
“Always great food. Normally I wait to get a table, but then fast service at the table.01-09-2024 Great delicious food as always. Never a disappointment here.Parking: Lots of parking always.Kid-friendliness: There are always children and there is a kid's menu.Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access ♿“
“I really like coming here but once they erase the specials board the girl at the register no longer respects the price she acts crazy and says no that wasn't the price she is very rude the waitresses are friendly and the food is rich and well “
“I love this place. Every time we are in the valley for anything we make a point to stop by before we leave. I especially like the crunchy chicharon, the nopales and egg. My wife won't allow me to eat more than 5, but I could probably eat 10. Great spicy salsas too.“
“First visit, definitely recommend. Was given plenty of time to look over the menu & make a choice. Perfect timing for everything. Had enough time to eat chips & salsa, as well as a small bowl of charro beans, and the main meal came out as we finished those. Food was very hot & freshly made looking too! Will definitely be going back again. (Bonus is that the lemon slices were super juicy, not like other places that barely have any juice to them)“
“My family and I love eating tacos from this place because these tacos have an authentic taste ?. No matter what tacos or lonches you decide to eat ,they're delicious!! This place is our favorite taqueria and the service is excellent. I pay for what is worth ?.“
“I love eating at this restaurant. The wait staff are amazing. They make you feel like family. Like if you're going to go eat at your Abuela's house on a Sunday. I recommend their menudo, caldos, and shrimp cocktails. Their salsas is just perfectly made. The food is always made fresh. And the service is fast. My granddaughter loves her Texana plates. Which is cheese enchiladas. She gets the adult plate, not child's plate. And what I love about their wait staff. Is that they go above and beyond to accommodate. For instance, whichever wait staff we have for that day we go to dine in. They will go back in to the kitchen and make my 8 month old grandson his own personal mashed potatoes ? . Just so he can dine with the rest of the family. Las Cazuelas has the best wait staff. I highly recommend this restaurant. We actually go every week, 2-4 days...Kid-friendliness: Wait staff are amazing with children. My grandbabies enjoy visiting with them“
“Stopped here based on a local recommendation. Lots of seating if you want to stay. I got mine Togo. The food was hot and had lots of flavor, not greasy. For 2 tacos, there was more food than I expected. It was filling and satisfying. Even the beans were great and I don't usually care for borracho beans. It came out fresh so it took a little while but no longer than most places. The staff were helpful and patient. I'd love to try some other dishes here!“
“Breakfast today at Blanquita's Mexican Restaurant in Harlingen was delicious! It was my 1st time here and I'm definitely a fan. My eggs were made perfectly how I like them. The sausage patties are big and full of flavor. The bacon was crispy. The hashbrowns were nice and golden. The refried beans were good as well. The staff was very friendly. The dining area is nice and clean. I love the atmosphere inside. I'll definitely be back soon with my wife, daughters and mother-in-law. I heard their barbacoa and menudo is very good as well so I have to try those next. I highly recommend.“
“Love this place. The breakfast tacos are great with handmade tortillas. They are big. The chipotle salsa is very unique. I would buy it separately. I had posole and it was a bit greasy. That would be one thing to improve. The restaurant has a great story. I will keep supporting it.“
“On business trip, seeing so many Mexican food places, I see thissmall spot and said to myself, this has got to be the Goliath ofMexican food and it did not disappoint. We are not Hispanic and rarely eat Mexican food every few years but this is by far one of the top 3 on my list, that says a lot! The other two were in Mexico. I recommend the menudo and the street tacos, wish I had more time there, I would have went through the entire menu. It has very limited parking but worth it if you find a spot.“
“Plenty of parking! Busy place with plenty of help. Coffee cup was small but constantly being filled. I had a generous bowl of menudo with some nice smelling and tasting flour tortillas. No menus, so be sure to read the menu board when you enter the restaurant.“
“I love this place. Every time we are in the valley for anything we make a point to stop by before we leave. I especially like the crunchy chicharon, the nopales and egg. My wife won't allow me to eat more than 5, but I could probably eat 10. Great spicy salsas too.“
“Nothing fancy here. This is the working man's restaurant.Alicia's is in an old building in an old part of town, but don't let that dissuade you from giving it a try.We stopped in for breakfast after attending our grandson's graduation ceremony at MMA.The menus that are brought to the table are much smaller than I ever expected, with the daily specials on one side and three items on the other. But the waiter ensured us they could fix us anything. The positives:The coffee was absolutely some of THE BEST coffee I've ever had.The salsa was on freakin point! The corn chips were deep fried corn tortillas, which may seem lazy to some, but they were fried to a perfect crispness! And in fact they did fix exactly what we asked. The negatives? The Charro beans were a little salt for me, but that's really about it.All in all a really good experience and someplace I'd visit again if I'm ever down there again. And the best part was the final bill. . . . . . . Breakfast for two with a couple coffees was a whopping $16!“
“This is a true South Texas restaurant located in Harlingen, TX. I enjoyed everything I ate. I had the pork chop with eggs. I liked that they grilled the chop. It came with refried beans, potatoes, salsa, and tortillas. The portions are perfect for the price. I liked it was busy, gave it a vibe, and the staff was super friendly and great service. Thank you El Rancho.“
“I recently tried Tacos Locos, a food truck business, and was blown away by the deliciousness of their tacos. The truck is easy to spot with its bright colors and eye-catching logo, and the line is always out the door, which is a testament to how popular this place is.I decided to try the al pastor tacos, which was filled with succulent spit-roasted pork, diced pineapple, and a variety of seasonings. The tacos were bursting with flavor and the ingredients were all fresh and of high quality. The service was also top-notch, with the staff being friendly and efficient. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering the large portion sizes.Overall, I highly recommend Tacos Locos for anyone looking for delicious and authentic Mexican street food.“
“Bro! The soft bread chalupas are the bees knees! The Doritos Tacos are heavenly mana, they literally replenish your soul, im 95.7% sure of it. The crunchwrap I'm sure was thought up by a PHd. Bajjaja blast makes your muscles grow, I'm 92.345% sure, anyway A+“
“I love their Mexican plate and their taco plate. It is definitely my favorite. We used to go there at least once a week when we lived in Harlingen but now we are in Brownsville so it's a little farther to go but will definitely go again soon.“
“I think their new location is very good. The only thing I don't like is that the bathroom is very close to the tables and the waitress didn't serve us very well, but in general the food was good and the tacos were well served. I will definitely return.“
“Best breakfast tacos I’ve ever had. So good, I didn’t even get a picture. We are driving back to SA from SPI and grabbed a to go order of chorizo and egg, potato, egg and cheese, bacon and egg and chorizo and potato! The tacos are huge for being “small” tacos. Homemade tortillas! Los Cuates are a must! Restaurant is super clean and owners are very friendly.“
“Came to visit my family. First time coming to eat at Calacas In Harlingen. Jessica is a superb waitress. Gave awesome service. Good was delicious. There was not a lot of waiting on the order. Love their patio setting outside. My family and I truly recommend everyone to stop by and have the delicious tacos, Pancho’s and the best Limonadas preparadas!!Parking: It’s parking lot is not only infront but also in the sides!Kid-friendliness: It’s a great place to come eat and hang with your kids.“
