About J & I Cafe

J & I Cafe is a hidden gem in downtown San Antonio, known for its family-oriented atmosphere and excellent service. Despite its unassuming exterior, the cafe impresses with its immaculate cleanliness and delicious dishes. The Huevo Ranchero plate and tacos are highlights, with the carne guisada flavor profile being particularly praised. The beans and rice are considered the best in town. The food is amazing and delicious, with highlights including the bean and cheese chalupas, chicken chalupas, enchilada special, and nopalito taco with beef fajitas, all served on homemade chalupas. The salsa Verde is good and has the right amount of heat. The coffee is good, and while the tortillas could be fluffier, the taste is still satisfying. The cafe has been around since 1989, showcasing its ability to endure the ups and downs of the economy and the pandemic. The location is easy to get to, and the vibe inside is no nonsense yet interesting. Although the restroom is small, the overall experience is delightful. Parking is convenient, and the posted hours may vary. Highly recommended, J & I Cafe is a spot that should not be missed.

While waiting for my food, I read all the reviews and felt obligated to share my review with you. If you come here, just know the owners are elderly folks. I agree with some of your reviews, that they may be lacking some Customer Service, but those wanting good authentic Mexican food should try to ignore that. I travel all around the U.S.A, and this place is about as good as you’ll ever get for good quality Authentic Mexican food. DELICIOUS AND FRESH! I ordered the Barbacoa...read full review

Horrible, over priced tacos ,tortillas were stored bought. Go to molinas on alamo

What a cute little place. It doesnt look like much from the outside, just a bright orange building.

The food was fresh, the establishment was pristine as far as cleanliness, the staff were friendly, and you cannot find this price at most places in Austin. I don't live in San Antonio, so the hand made tortillas were a real treat for me!

I love that this is a locally owned place. It wasn't busy at all when I visited around lunch on a random weekday.
