49 Best Tex-Mex Restaurants in San Antonio

“I found Maria's Cafe via Google Search and I'm a sucker for family owned hole-in-the-wall places that serve authentic no frills cuisine. Maria's does not disappoint. You will find tacos of every kind, including familiar ones and many others that I haven't seen in other places. I tried the Taco Mando Loco #1 on a corn tortilla which was served piping hot with a chilli sauce/salsa on the table. Word of caution for those who aren't accustomed to higher spice levels, this one has a kick to it, and that's a good thing.

For the 2nd order I was curious to know what they have for veggie tacos. When I asked, I was promptly handed a green sheet with a handwritten menu with over 20 different veggie tacos! I ordered Jeff's Vegan and it was awesome.

The location is about 2 miles from the city center so it's a short cab ride away but it's worth the trip. You'll get home made food that won't burn a hole in your wallet.

“I think we found our new to go place for lunch specials and other dishes. I had been craving Enchiladas Verdes for a while looked up places online and decided on Blue Moon. I'm glad we did. Wife ordered a Puffy Taco that thing was loaded! Home made Corn Tortillas, good picoso Chiles, food was hot from start to finish just the way it should be. Will be going back to try their Menudo as well as a lot more menu items. Their menu is quite impressive, and very reasonably priced. The servers and staff they have are outstanding, nice and attentive. Cudos to management on this little gem on the South Side.“

Atmosphere…it’s a good restaurant with a unique theme, good but nothing like mind blowing.

The drinks are amazing, we ordered a New Mexican…a couple of them, a Paloma, and a white peach slurpee thing, all very good. The bar turned our drinks out quickly and the food was great! It’s a big chain, but it’s amongst the best of the big chains. We genuinely had a great time and Will asks without question to sit in Kaylin’s section again next time!“

“Had the beef special puffy taco plate for lunch. It was very good, but too filling for me nowadays. I would probay just get the two tacos a la carte. The menu also had burgers, enchiladas, etc, but I heard the puffy tacos were good - and they were. The service was excellent. The plate and sweet tea drink were about 16 dollars before tip. Oh, and the complimentary chips and salsa at the start were great!

Parking: I parked right next to the building, but I saw afterwards that there was a customer parking lot across Guadalupe St.“

“My wife has been wanting to visit the restaurant. We live part time in Mexico sit Carriqui. So we decided to visit the restaurant. the restaurant exceeded our expectations. The nachos with barbecue brisket on top were delicious. The sweet corn cakes were the best we've ever tasted. the brisket tacos were made by a pit master that is an excellent preparer of brisket. And to top it off we had a very good attendant---Zoe.“

Holy enchiladas! Order the Suizas enchiladas! I thought about them for about 24 hours afterwards. Our entire experience was fantastic. Lauryn our server was one of the nicest and most patient people ever! The atmosphere is fantastic. And all of the food was delicious!! Wish we lived closer so we could go more often!“

“I've only had the breakfast tacos but boy they were amazing. We accidentally went 5 minutes before breakfast was over but the staff was more than happy to get us some tacos. We went back a couple of days later, on time, and ordered more tacos. They were large and stuffed.“

“First time visiting this location. Naomi was my waitress. She took my order and accommodated me for substituting charro beans in place of refried beans. I had the beef enchiladas plate. Mere minutes after I ordered, the plate was delivered to my table. It was excellent. It's definitely worth trying this location if you're in the area.“

We returned and had the steak burrito. My wife couldn't take the heat and it was hard for me to eat it. I like spicy food, but this was tough to take. Our waitress said we should have asked for sour cream to cool the spices. I only wish the menu had some sort of disclosure if something is that spicy. We still like the restaurant, but be wary.“

“Most of the time we go to a Chili's because our kids like to go there. I'm never wild about the food, but the service is always good. My disappointment on this visit came is the form of the "add-on" $2 guacamole that was served with my quesadilla - an amount that was maybe about a little less than a tablespoon. I don't blame the location as I'm sure that's a corporate "standard serving size". But stuff like that makes me not want to go back. If my kids didn't like it so much, I most likely wouldn't go back to any Chili's. But overall, no problems with this location.“

“My family came from Ohio in 1950. We bought chalupas and little tacos and ate in Breckenridge park. I remember they were on paper plate and put in brown paper sacks. The chalupas were good because of the thick tortilla. Do you still make these.“

We paid for that before we left the hotel. When we went down the hill to exit, they charged us for parking again ($17) as if we had self-parked. We argued, and they said it was a new thing that just started that day. VERY disappointed in paying two exorbitant prices for parking with no upfront knowledge of the situation.“

“I went there with a bunch of my college friends and honestly everything was great. Chips and salsa was excellent and the guacamole tasted great. We ordered a few top shelf margaritas pitchers and they were just as strong as he said they would be. The staff was very friendly and welcoming.
