If you live in Charlottesville (or are just passing through) and don't dine at Bar Tomas, you're missing out on our region's finest chef. Every item on the menu is a work of art. And the service is impeccable. A near perfect dining experience.
Excellent experience, honestly the best meal I’ve had in Charlottesville, and I’ve been to nearly every restaurant in the city over the past 15 years. The service was excellent, I especially appreciated Mary’s warm hospitality. The food was standard Spanish tapas —nothing that reinvented the wheel— with execution that was faithful, but not tedious. Bar Tomas is a charming restaurant serving delicious dishes. Their key lime pie is fresh and amazing, topped with fresh whipped cream. The smoked beef brisket biscuit sandwich is also a highlight. Vegetarian options include the tofu BBQ biscuit sandwich. The restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making it a true gem.
The food and service are exceptional, with a coordinated and succinct delivery from the one-man wizard in the kitchen, even for large parties. The squash blossoms and calamari are delicately fried, light and decadent, while the risotto is deep and woodsy yet not heavy. The paella is perfectly cooked and served for all. The arugula, walnut and apple salad is a standout, and the wine suggestions are spot on and delicious.
This is a fantastic local eatery, offering freshly made food featuring local ingredients. The changing menu and understated, welcoming establishment offer way more than just pie. The food is amazing, and it's a true gem that shouldn't be missed.
