“Beer was great, wine was great, great scenic views. Pizza food truck didn't get going till about 2 pm .....I went there at noon for lunch. I got a a cheese board from the winery instead, which was good. The winery was great, I will go again. The food truck sucked.”
“I had an absolutely wonderful Self Care Sunday! Following numerous recommendations, I decided to visit two wineries. One of them was DuCard Vineyards. The drive to the winery was absolutely stunning, with picturesque views of the mountains. To top it off, the winery wasn't crowded at all, which made the experience even more perfect for me!Upon arrival, I was greeted warmly by Beth. The tasting experience at DuCard Vineyards is truly a steal at only $25, with the option to choose from 4 different wines - reds, whites, or a mix of both. I opted for 2 reds and 2 whites, and let me tell you, the tasting was an absolute delight! The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and they conducted the tasting right at my table.*I came, I saw, I conquered... the wine list! Veni, vidi, vino - that's my motto. The Viognier and Carbenet Franc Vintner Reserve were both delightful choices, but the real star of the show was the Popham Run Red. A Bordeaux blend that had me reaching for a bottle to take home. And let's not forget the extra tastings - Cest trop, with its notes of caramel and chocolate, and XOXO, a bubbly blend of Viognier and Chardonnay. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I know my friend Nikki would go crazy for it.No cell service? No problem! Just enjoy the moment, the wines, and the company you bring. Thanks to Beth and the two lovely ladies (sorry, I forgot your names!) for their help and hospitality.”
“Jimm is a very welcoming host and the vineyard itself is peaceful and scenic. The carriage house is a great place to stay and the wine was incredible as well. We will certainly be back for another stay in the future!”
“A very special place in a small town, Jenny Lynd's pizza is as good as it gets. The crust is homemade, chewy, and delicious, and it reheats better than any pizza I've ever had. There are a few other dishes. My wife has had the chicken parmesan, and loves it. There are a few simple desserts, but the pizza is the main attraction.”
“After a half day drive down Skyline Drive - I needed some lunch on the way home. As I was passing through Madison, VA on U.S. 29 - I noted Piedmont Deli - which I've seen for years - but never visited. So in to Piedmont I went...I ordered their version with an Italian Sub - with mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, and banana peppers - to go. Sub was made to order. They wrap up the sub on a paper plate with a small bag of chips and a dill pickle spear. The sub was really good - hit the spot. I am more of the crusty style sub rolls fan - but Piedmont used a soft sub roll - which actually worked out quite well.Great sub, I would eat here again. There are 3-4 tables to eat in. As I recall, I did not see any restrooms for customers to utilize - so if that is indeed the case - be aware of that.Service was good.Paid with a credit card.#PiedmontDeli”
“Really enjoyed the beer, the staff and the location. We did a walking beer tour - Pen Druid, Veditz and Hopkins Ordinary. There is a nice walking path that connects all three. About a 3 mile loop. Highly recommended!”
“We booked a private tasting in the 1800s cabin, and it was an amazing time! If you're looking for a personal experience with notable hospitality, this is the winery for you. Great owners and great staff. We will be back!”
“The cutest place with great coffee and breakfast. It's full of locals but the kind who want to talk to those from out of town. The place is small but it's efficient. I had the ham and Gruyère cheese quiche and it was awesome. My friends had breakfast sandwiches. I loved my oat milk honey cinnamon latte!”
“Three Blacksmiths is not just a restaurant with great food, it is a culinary journey! To start, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We felt at home the second we arrived. A staff member even noticed we were taking a selfie and came out to take a group photo for us. The four of us (all long time friends) made our first decision quickly, wine pairing or zero proof pairings. One chose the zero proof (DD) and she was not disappointed in the least. Gabriel's creative concoctions perfectly matched the menu for our sitting. Then, our food adventure began and I can say, each course was beautiful and delicious and included flavors and tastes I had never experienced before. I am an experienced home cook, but there were plenty of ingredients that I had never seen or used before. I particularly loved the white asparagus veloute and the spring ricotta gnudi which was basically an amazing ravioli without the pasta coat. The wine pairings were perfect and made even more special because Chef Jake Addeo and his wife, Sara, talked us through each pairing. In fact, the whole staff interacted with us the entire meal and made the experience educational as well as a culinary prize. The portions were perfect for us since we had a least 7 courses. I cannot forget to mention the bread, one of which was the best focaccia I have ever eaten! This is a very special restaurant and staff in a very little town. A true gem that I cannot recommend enough!”
“Great little space serving fantastic custom cocktails and good food in a cozy environment. It’s a tight space — 4 2-tops and a small bar, but it delivers in a big way! Bartender was fabulous, drinks great — got a mojito and one of the better ones I’ve had. Definitely recommend stopping in!”
“As usual, HappyCow will not allow 5-star reviews for places that are not completely vegan/vegetarian, but this is a 5-star review... Do yourself a favor and come visit Sumac! Chef Dan and his crew go to extraordinary lengths to create magic. The menu always has vegan/vegetarian options, and the location/view cannot be beaten!”
“They just did a Valentine's Tea for over 60 plus and did an amazing job. I would highly recommend them for your next party or event. They go above and beyond.”
“Came to the area for our Anniversary weekend and found this gem! The staff Jules, Debra, & Kyleah where great when it came to the beer selection. They where very attentive and friendly that we came back thru on our 2nd day just to come back and enjoy atmosphere! Decided to order food and the kitchen staff were great in helping select the right items and it came out hot and fabulous! Would definitely recommend to anyone who is visiting or lives in the area. Will definitely be back when we come back to visit! 10/10 for sure!!”
“POST-HIKE HOME RUN!Had an amazing "design your own" pizza, although they have quite a selection of signature and classic pizzas, calzones, pasta, salads, and appetizers. Their menu for "Francis Cocktails," wines, and craft beers will satisfy most tastes. The build our own pizzas offer quite a list of tasty and locally grown ingredients. The staff is friendlier than any pizza places that I have been in a while. And the pizza arrived at the table very fast! This craft pizza mecca and it's adjoining Country Store and Bar Francis (all one big business) are the perfect stop over when in the area, to stock up, have drinks, and/or have a tasty meal. Will be back!”
“Let me start by saying that the ding to 4 stars for the Atmosphere is only because I'm not a fan of live music while dining and we weren't aware that they had live music on Friday & Saturday nights (I've since been informed that it's only 1-2x a month, so if you ARE a fan of live music, plan accordingly), when we decided to have dinner at the Black Twig; so it's not so much a ding on them. The staff was phenomenal, doing everything they could to accommodate us with a table as far from the entry to the room in which the band was playing and, although the extended wait was due to our request for a farther table, we were comped a free appetizer; a gesture that instantly garnered them kudos. The wait staff was attentive and took great care of us; empty dishes removed promptly, drinks refilled with little to no wait, etc. The main reason for being there - the food - was no less than the service. My sister-in-law, quite the foodie with high standards, had nothing but praise for the whole experience - which may be more difficult to achieve than a Michelin start. Highly recommend. . . just avoid live music nights if you want to have a quieter experience.”
“Is a great little side of the road Burger joint. At the foothills of the Blue ridge. It's very nice to grab a pizza or a burger and just sit out there by the river and relax while you eat.”
“Great location, fantastic food, and exceptional service. If you get Shelia as your server, consider yourself blessed. She is a fantastic sever and she does it ALL. Do yourself and favor and stop by for a visit! Also, if you’re interested in supporting a place that gives back to their community, a quick google search will get you up to speed about this owner.”
“Great beer and great views. Chill vibe. The brewer was super kind and chatted me up about his methods of carbonation and his yeast which was neat to learn about. The other staff member was friendly as well.”
“Just a short 7 mile drive from our home, we stopped by on a whim tonight and are super glad we did. The Stacked IPA was wonderful, the views amazing with lots of outdoor seating, and the indoor atmosphere inviting and unique. We can’t wait to bring a group next time. Thank you for a great experience!!”
