“This is Sushi Umi located in Herndon, VA. It's a great Japanese restaurant that has great food and sushi. The setting is super cute and the service was great. My waitress was really nice and attentive. She always made sure that I had everything I needed. The star of the show is the "Taste of Umi" which allows you to taste several dishes. My favorites were the eel and the fish roe!!! Just when I thought the meal was over, the chef gave me an extra piece on the house!!! It was a lovely tuna bite. Check it out if you have some time.“

The roll in the photo is the 2011 roll but I’d also recommend the fantasy roll to anyone interested because it comes with this sauce that is to die for. The service is great. “Hot pot was supper good with good portions per each person. Workers were super nice and are always walking around if you need anything. The prime rib was so tender and melts in your mouth. Not to mention the sauce that they give you the instructions to make is amazing and you can choose how much of an ingredient to add in.“

“From the minute our party of two entered, the staff greeted us warmly and were very polite. To start, the chicken karaage was perfectly seasoned, crisp, and temperature hot - no sauce needed. For my meal, I ordered the nigiri only Omakase (Chef Inspired Platter) which came with a miso soup and salad. The taste brought me back to Japan. Our meal also came with dessert in which we chose the green tea ice cream which did not disappoint! Everyone working was attentive, informative, and wonderful. “This place is always packed, and there's a reason: It is amazing. Our go to is the bubba, yummy Yama and pan fried gyoza. It's right up there with the best sushi we've ever had. And they also have subtle touches, like they put the gyoza in styrofoam containers, and then they poke holes in the styrofoam to make sure the gyoza stays crispy and doesn't soften with its own steam. Also, they will hold open the doors for you if your hands are full with a carry out order. Such nice touches!“

Seatings a bit cozy because it's a bit smaller size restaurant, but it doesn't feel too claustrophobic.“

“Treated my cousin to Sweet Ginger for his birthday and we were both amazed by the quality and quantity of food we received for the price paid. We made it easy for our patient and attentive waiter by ordering two Thai iced tea and the Bento Box A with beef teriyaki. Everything was cooked and prepared to perfection. Starting with the Thai iced tea; which was almost like a dessert. So smooth and sweet! It complimented the meal. The miso soup was comforting and had a balanced ratio of broth, tofu, greens, and green onion. The salad was fresh, crisp, and dressed with a rich and tasty peanut dressing. Of course, the highlight of our meal was the incredible bento boxes. The tempura shrimp and vegetables were my favorite. They were breaded to ideal crispiness and paired well with the soy dipping sauce. The vegetables were one big broccoli floret and large sliced carrot and zucchini medallions. The teriyaki steak was scrumptious, served on a bed of cabbage slaw with a generous amount of sauce. There was enough for me to dip other box components into, like the California rolls, tofu, and the Japanese dumpling. We dusted off everything. Not even the leftover salad dressing remained because we drank it all up! The whole experience was so much fun and we had a blast. Can't wait to go back. We left feeling satisfied and can add this to our list of happy memories!“

We share the shrimp and vegetable tempura which was excellent but the dipping sauce was very small .I think my daughter’s chicken was better than my steak which was a tad chewy. I didn’t get hot mustard with my spring roll which made its bit bland. Wasabi portion was so small that I could not even taste it. The food was typical for this price point, but the 45 minutes drive puts it too far out for a repeat visit.“

Their wild Buddha bowl is a great option for vegans/vegetarians, or if you can’t have raw seafood.Food is always fresh and ready promptly when I order for pickup. Clean atmosphere, although the order kiosks might not be for everyone. Price is competitive with other poke places while the quality and flavors are a cut above.“

“Came on Friday during lunch time. We were a party of 5 but seated right away. The AYCE is not buffet style in that you go pick your food; you order from the waiter and they bring it out. It can take a while for a waiter to return so make sure to put in a full order while they're there. There is a fee for any food leftover so don't go crazy but be aware of the timing. For kids 3 and under the AYCE is free and they love the little ice cream containers for dessert. As for the food I recommend the hibachi and rice and edamame with most of their specialty rolls. All the sushi was good but the one with mango and sweet potato was a favorite and the fried specialty roll too. Would return.“
