“We’ve eaten here about 5 times now I think and I specifically waited to make my review until we had been a few times at least. The consistency of this place is on point, which is amazing because we’ve been trying to find a good take out place for a while now where we knew it would be good every time and this place has got it going on. Their food is amazing. This is the only place we go for Chinese food now and we even drive 40 minutes to get here it’s that good. We personally love the beef lo mein, beef and broccoli and the sesame chicken.“

“So much more good than expected! So delicious! My roommate and I have food for days ... We thought we were just getting a meal each. It's enough for 3-4 meals each! We got 2 mains, egg rolls, chicken on a stick (it's so much chicken ❤️😍🤤 and SO good) and donuts for $40.... It's good for days“

“The lady was super nice. She did me a solid by giving me an egg roll last minute from another order so i wouldn't have to wait. Decent prices. Lowest I've seen in Hampton Roads. Busy stores and restaurants aren't here to kiss your a$$. Get your food. Pay and go home and enjoy it. Stop complaining about the person answering the phone. Maybe it's you!“

“Food is always fresh and good. Egg foo yung is never burnt and the gravy is brown not black and oily like some places. They don’t have that weird yellow rice but normal rice classic and fried like back in the day real Chinese American food.“

“This little place has a very diverse menu. The food is very good. The peach bubble tea is nothing short of amazing! The dining room is adequate and clean. However, the decor is very basic. I had the Gen Tsoas Chicken with white rice. It was delicious. We waited a very long time for our food, but it was hot and delicious. Our server was not necessarily in a very good mood. Point given back because it was around 7 p.m. when we sat down. One of our dinner companions grew up in Hawaii. She gives the cuisine a thumbs up as authentic. She especially loves the macaroni salad.“

“We recently moved back to Hampton Roads and have been looking for a good Chinese spot. We have found it in Wong Kwok!
The staff are so sweet and cheerful, the food comes out very timely and the food is phenomenal; honestly, one of the best egg rolls I've ever tasted! The hot n sour soup hit the spot and the Moo Goo Gai Pain is delicious!
We will definitely be back for more!“

“I recently visited China Ocean, a highly-rated Chinese restaurant in the U.S., and I have to say — this place absolutely lives up to the hype. From the moment I walked in to everything was spot-on. If you’re looking for authentic, flavorful Chinese food with great service, this is the place.
The atmosphere is cozy, clean, and welcoming. It’s not overly fancy, but it has a warm, relaxing vibe. The space is well-organized, tables are clean, and the decor includes some subtle Chinese elements that add charm without being overdone. Whether you’re dining with family, friends, or even solo, you’ll feel comfortable and at ease.
And the food? Absolutely amazing. Everything we ordered was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. The orange chicken was crispy and tender with the perfect sweet-tangy balance. The General Tso’s chicken had just the right amount of kick, without being overly sweet or greasy. The shrimp lo mein had that authentic “wok hei” flavor — the noodles were springy, the shrimp fresh and juicy. We also tried the beef with broccoli, which was cooked perfectly with tender slices of beef and crisp vegetables. Every dish felt homemade, not mass-produced. You could taste the quality in every bite.
Portions were generous, ideal for sharing or packing up leftovers (which still tasted great the next day). The menu is extensive, so there’s something for everyone, whether you like spicy, savory, sweet, or mild flavors.
As for price, it’s more than fair. You’re paying for excellent ingredients, big portions, and real care in preparation. Most dishes range from $10 to $18, and for the quality you get, it’s worth every penny. It’s not fast food — it’s real food, cooked right.
Overall, China Ocean is hands-down one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve been to in the U.S. It’s a rare find: authentic flavors, warm service, generous portions, and great value — all under one roof. I’m already planning to come back and try even more of the menu.

“Finally! I found a great Chinese restaurant. Got house fried rice and chicken and broccoli and they were both absolutely excellent! Lady at the counter was very friendly unlike the jerk that I've been abused by numerous times at another Chinese restaurant.
Topps China, you have a new customer!“

“A Pretty good little Chinese food Takeout restaurant, and the Lady owner is kind and friendly. I would definitely prefer to give them business instead of fast food drive thru nearby. I like good fresh hot food, good service and good price from a local business like this one. Thank you China Li, and keep up the good work!“

“For takeout, you can't get much better! Everything tasted great. I got crab Rangoon, pork fried rice, and a sweet and sour chicken dinner. It was all delicious, hot, and fresh. You can also watch them cook your food, if you want. They don't have anywhere to sit and eat which is fine, if you are looking for takeout“

“The Hibachi Teriyaki chicken is almost as good as the Chesapeake Square mall Nori Japan in the food court yummy yummy version. I usually get the lomein and veggies with an extra scoop of sauce. The sauce at Chinese gourmet is a close second or I would've given them 5 stars. Also it's cheaper at CG than Nori which is a plus and it's closer to me.“
