“When I walked into Holy Water, I felt like I’d stepped inside my favorite kooky aunt’s house. She was the black sheep of the family who made me laugh a little too much when we were forced to go to church to appease my grandmother. Eventually, we were forbidden to sit next to one another because we’d both be in tears and giggling so loudly that the entire congregation would turn to stare us down. That sort of irreverent (yet respectful and funny) vibe is part of Holy Water’s DNA. This place immediately makes you feel welcome. It doesn’t take itself too seriously- that is except for the food. If only my kooky aunt was as good a cook… The staff is amazing. They were patient when my lunch companion had to make some bizarre alterations to his order. (He’d just had a wisdom tooth pulled a couple of days before and needed softer foods.) When we were ready to leave and still had way too much food on our plates, a staff member saw the look of surrender on our face and quickly boxed up the remainders and told us that she’d added some extra gravy (yum!) for us to take home. (Who doesn’t love extra sausage gravy?) I love this place. The food is great but what really makes this spot shine is the people. I can’t wait to go back.“

“I’ve lived on Alki since 1989. I’ve seen many restaurants come and go from this location. Lotus on the Beach is the best of them all. The ability to pick from a variety of Vietnamese and Thai dishes is its strength. The owner and staff welcome any and all critiques of the food and service.“

“We Love Ruby Brink! Burger night—say no more…! The beef dip sandwich on the lunch menu is another favorite. We love eating here for so many reasons though. This isn’t a “high staff turnover” type restaurant where you’ll be greeted by stressed out workers plastered with fake smiles fighting over tables like you might be used you. This is a grown-up establishment with grown-up food and grown-up and experienced, competent and empowered staff and I appreciate how this dynamic expressed itself in terms of guest experience. When I say that the food is grown-up I mean that it is carefully selected and prepared from scratch and this means it does not taste like what other restaurants are doing, which often is buying bags of frozen soup and sauces from the chef supply store to keep costs down and to keep everything tasting exactly the same, every time. “Wow! Where to start... First is the oyster happy hour. Great prices and all regional oysters from local farms. If you are there for happy hour at least a dozen is a must. From the menu we had two crudo (scallop and albacore) and each had such interesting flavors. The scallop included some vanilla in the oil that pairs perfectly, and also included sea buckthorn which was new to us but was delicious. Finally we also had the clams and muscles which were excellent but the focaccia bread was the clear winner.... The staff were very friendly and the restaurant space was very comfortable. Definitely a spot we will be returning to!“
