“Lynnwood is not Bellevue, and Alderwood Mall is not Bellevue Square. The resemblance is there, but nobody is confused, least of all the mall. Still, Alderwood holds three spots dear to me. There is J. Sweets, where I can get my favorite wagashi imported straight from Japan, sweets so restrained they seem almost to apologize for being sweets. Next door is Arc Watch Works, run by a master watchsmith, if that is a word, and his charming wife; if it is not a word, he is reason enough to coin it. And on the second floor of Nordstrom there is Bazille, a veritable oasis, tucked away where oases are kept now.

After yesterday's failed expedition into traditional American fare, I came to Bazille in a spirit of repair. It is one of those rare rooms that is never too busy and never too empty, as though the place itself has good manners. Today's crowd included a beautiful family of four sliding between English and what I took to be Tagalog, easy as breathing, and a lone woman at the bar who was plainly known to the bartendress. To be known by name at a bar on the second floor of a mall in Lynnwood: that is a kind of citizenship too.

The menu is minimal but not too minimal, caloric but not unreasonably so, which makes it the antithesis of the Cheesecake Factory at the other end of the mall, where the operating principle is more, and then more after that. Even so, I always have trouble ordering. My standing dilemma is the chimichurri steak versus the mushroom ravioli, a question I have failed to settle across many visits. Today the steak won, with a glass of cab and the little gem Caesar. A year ago it would have been the lobster salad, but the lobster salad has gone off the menu, and I have grieved in proportion. Bread pudding after, because repair should be thorough.

The food was, as always, delicious. Five out of five, and here I should explain my system: on a scale of one to five, anything other than a five is really a one. Everyone knows this; inflation has come for the stars as it came for everything else. On an honest scale of one to ten, an eight or a nine, which is to say excellent, which is to say go. The service was its usual five. The atmosphere was divine. A veritable oasis, as I said, and I will keep saying it until Nordstrom puts it on a plaque.“

“Tomatoes & Apricot Salad was delicious. Charred Octopus was excellent, though the potato salad was not spectacular. The Squid Salad was very good, though quite mild. The bowl of clams was tasty and quite nice. It would have been nice if the baguette had been gently warmed so that the delicious butter could have had a chance to meld a bit into the bread. The Burnt Basque Cheesecake is something I have enjoyed all over northern Spain. So, I have my favorites. This was very good. I have enjoyed slices more caramelized, fluffier, and taller, but this was very good. The Yuzu Marmalade was delicious. I would suggest hand polishing the wine glasses before serving. Dishwashers leave lipstick, specks of food and grease marks which are a 'turn-off'. Wines were good.“

“A literal hole in the wall, this place oozes with cool vibes. From the vintage bar hutch to the dog portraits covering the walls, this cozy spot leaves little to be desired. A clever cocktail menu will make you laugh and I recommend the hand made ginger beer.“

“La Gloria is the Perfect Choice for a Fabalous Authentic Mexican Restaurant. I happened to find it from my Google search. I am a Mexican Food Conisiuer and La Gloria was the BEST by far that I've enjoyed in Western Washington (Bothell). Enrique and Krew were Spot On in every aspect of an Excellent Dining Experience. My first night was so GOOD that I returned the next night which was my birthday...Last night. Again, it was Fabulous.. I was alone and La Gloria gave me the BEST BIRTHDAY PARTY!!! “Really awesome little warm and cozy cocktail bar! Limited seating, but on a dry night it is nice to sit outside as they will have fire pits going. Great bartenders who make fantastic drinks. If you sit outside on the patio the service could be a little slow so you may need to order it from the bar itself.“

“The Twisted Lime Pub is a must-visit! DC was an exceptional server. He was friendly, incredibly respectful, and attentive throughout our entire meal. While being our server, he was also running the bar, cleaning tables, refilling drinks, checking in with us and the tables next to us, just going above and beyond with his hospitality. There were other servers who were amazing but you could tell DC has a passion for serving others and making this place special.

The food was absolutely delicious, and everything came out fresh and surprisingly fast. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in both quality and efficiency. We had the chicken Nacho Mama, Twisted Tacos, and key lime pie, all freaking tasty and looked so good I forgot to take photos!

I also loved the overall environment. The space was very clean, well-maintained, and had a welcoming, laid-back vibe that made it easy to relax and enjoy the experience. “There's NOTHING friendly about this place. I will not play the race card, HOWEVER, I did record a video. The server who served us left and the next shift bartender came. This guy did NOT acknowledge me until I asked for a napkin. The video is almost 6 minutes long and he so much did not say hello. The queso was so "watery" that it dripped on me and the bar. Appetizer plates were not even brought to us. No one checked on how the food was or drink. Poor service. Unfortunately, in this day and time this type of service is accepted and tolerated.“

“Cheerful, prompt service, great food, and a nice view of the Sound from the outdoor seating area, which is kept pleasantly warm in the cold months. The train is RIGHT THERE at times, a little noisy for a few minutes at a time, but no big deal if you're patient. There's a wide variety on the menu, something for all tastes. And the bartender made an exemplary Martini, to boot. Demitri's will be in our regular rotation for a meal out.“

My experience is a 10 out of 10. I see others may have had mixed experiences, so I say don't knock it until you try. The best part is that you also have a pizza bar and a wine bar right next door. A perfect spot to bounce around and try new things.“
