Uncover Union Gap's Mexican dining scene with Restaurantji's insights.
“The service was slow, I'm not going to lie. BUT!! They were training TWO new people. They were so so so so kind and tried their absolute best and you could see that. They were full of smiles and truly grateful for the business. The food was delicious. The tortillas were worth the money alone.I'm excited to go back when the new girls are a bit more efficient. Definitely worth it.“
“I would highly recommend eating here, not once have I ever got any type of bad experience. The food is always delicious, and I believe they cook it with love! The waitresses are some of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet!“
“I was skeptical of the cornflake French toast and am now addicted. This is a bit off the beaten path, but the food is great and the service is amazing. If you have the opportunity you should try it. It is my new go-to place for breakfast/brunch.“
“One of the better Mexican style restaurants I have had the pleasure to eat at in Yakima. I had the Mole Burrito. It was quite good and the Mole sauce was some of the best that I have ever had. My only critique of the restaurant was that once we had our food, our server kind of disappeared.“
“Ever since JJ's opened up in Wapato, there have been a lot of us that have been hoping that another would open closer... Now we have a couple, and all is right with the world! Queso Birria tacos were not invented here, but in my mind, they represent the inception of such a wonderful dish. Primarily because it's the first place I ever had them. They do more than just beauty get here, but Manda, I do that well. For those who have not had. Tacos, think of meat that sat in a slow cooker for a couple days, and is then put into a taco that is being hugged by another taco with cheese in between. it is seriously all the best things taken to another level! Traditionally, it is done with goat, but the beef down around here is very good. You didn't get a cup of consuming, which is effectively the drippings from the slow roasted meat. It's sort of a red soup, and man, it's good enough to swim in! They have one of the better California burritos in the area as well. The Cali burrito is everything that is awesome about a burrito with fries added inside. It is next level good! The standard tacos, Chalupa's, and really everything they make here, are spectacular. The folks that work here are always helpful, and despite everyone of these places, being perpetually, busy, to get everybody served and well taken care of! The actual inside of the restaurant is simple, but there's plenty of space to spread out and the number of large and small tables. You owe it to yourself to try this place. It is seriously the type of spot that you will try and then come here three days later because it's so good! Welcome to town JJs!“
“I've driven all the way from Tacoma to visit family and immediately came to Anita's. Street tacos are fantastic wait staff is friendly and the food is top-notch I highly recommend this place. Finally unauthentic Mexican food restaurant!“
“Great service with a smile. You can tell they care about their customers. I got four different types of tacos. The chicken, pork, beef, and shrimp tacos were all unique and tasty. The price was pretty low for the amazing quality of food you get.Definitely recommend stopping here to eat!!! ?“
“I order not what I meant sometimes, and God bless the wonderful women who see me and know what I meant and fix it so I don't get home without my extra rice and beans ❤️❤️ this my usual spot and I love them forever the food is amazing and the staff is so friendly ?? all around “
“Wonderful, attentive service. It was nice to see a restaurant staff work as a team, I know that a lot of places everybody seems to be on their own island, but here at El Mirador 2, everyone is definitely on the same team! The food was absolutely delicious. I would give it 10 out of 10 stars if I could!“
“Don’t skip this no frills place. As soon as my family of 6 walked in we were greeted with warm smiles and hellos. The salsa is amazing as other reviews have stated. The food is decently priced and we all enjoyed it! They don’t have a dedicated kids menu but my children just ordered from the “side orders”. They had a single enchilada, small nachos, and bean/cheese burrito. The service was 10/10!! Will absolutely go back whenever we’re in Yakima again.Kid-friendliness: Servers are really friendly and warm. My kids were a bit loud but they didn’t seem to mind. It’s a family-style environment.“
“Great little family run Mexican food restaurant. It meets multiple criteria. First of all, authentic Mexican cooking isn’t going to come from a high school kid cranking out tacos. The kitchen and staff are authentic. Next criteria, when you see the restaurant packed with Hispanic diners, it’s a very good sign (never understood why Taco Bell checks that box often)The food and service were excellent. We will definitely be back!“
“(Translated by Google) The food is very tasty the size of the place does not matter when you make the food with love and dedication you can enjoy the difference thanks for giving it that touch of dedication I invite you to visit it and come and savor these delicacies(Original)La comida muy sabrosa el tamaño del lugar no importa cuando haces con amor y dedicación los alimentos se disfruta la diferencia gracias por darle ese toque de dedicación los invito a que lo visiten y pasen a saborear esas delicias“
“This is a small restaurant space, but the incredible food and genuine service more than make up for the small space. The quesabirria tacos are THE best around and the “large burrito “ weighs close to 4 lbs (before I doused it in salsa!)! We eat here at least once weekly and never tire of the delicious options!“
“The food was delicious. I only docked a star because of the price of the tacos. I got the quesabirria con consome(don't think I spelled that right) they were greasy but crisp and cheesy and had a lot of flavor. They serve chips, salsa, and beans to every table. The salsa was very mild. Little to no spice, but they definitely made up for that with the salsa that they serve with the food. I regretted underestimating the spice! My partner got the sopes and seemed to really enjoy them. He did say they were around the same price as the street tacos but much more filling for the price. I also got a mojito i thoroughly enjoyed. It was just strong enough and very refreshing.“
“I grew up eating authentic homemade Mexican food made in the traditional abuelita way, about as Mexican as can get, so when I eat Mexican food outside of my house, it's hard for me to be impressed. Well, Erik definitely does it.His food is food is far and away the best Mexican food in town, and it's not even close. This is really authentic homemade Mexican food like it should be. The flavors are bold, flavorful, and full of goodness no matter the food, and I've had them all. Erik himself is as amazing as his food, and he makes every eating experience memorable with his amazing personality.Do you want real, authentic Homemade Mexican food made the right way? This is the only place in Yakima to get it. Anything less than 5 stars is a travesty to the deliciousness and authenticity of the food served here. Do I recommend this place? Without hesitation, you will not regret it.The only downside is that Erik roots for Chivas, but other than that him and the restaurant as good as they come.“
“We were between Scorpion Tacos and Wendy’s for our Yakima road trip stop and I’m so glad we ended up here. The tacos are some of the best we’ve ever had- everything was fresh and delicious. They’re street size so if you’re hungry I would order 4-5. I’m devastated that we may never get to eat here again!“
“I always try and eat here when I'm in town.We had a great dinner. Our server seemed very busy. He was very attentive but a little pushy. He took a plate away without asking, and we hadn't finished yet. I'm so thankful he didn't take my Pico de Gallo, I packed it all the way back to tri cities!“
“We were here from out of town and had no idea where to eat and decided to try JJ's. We had the birria tacos with the dip with rice and beans. Iam pretty picky about mexican food because I cook my own, so we never go out for mexican but this was over the top good. We loved it! It was hard to choose because of the great menu selections but seems like we picked the right menu item. The gentleman that took our order was patient and helpful when we asked questions. The only negative thing I have to say is it was freezing cold in the dining area and it was 68 degrees outside so I don't understand why it was so cold in the restaurant. Having said that tge food was fantastic.“
“Great food, but... Menu said burrito was $7.50. It was actually $9, with no notice of price change until after the tasty burrito was presented. Not much meat on burrito, so I think it was overpriced, especially for carryout. It did taste great though.“
“Great tasting tacos. Highly recommended. Service and atmosphere lack in comparison to the flavor. Not the cleanest of places. If you are looking for some of the best tasting tacos around at a very decent price and care about nothing else then definitely try this place out. Highly recommend bringing cash. Debit or credit will increase your price per taco considerably.“
“The food is awesome. Each dish is prepared well, and the meat is never dry. Always ask for the orange salsa.Parking: Parking lots is clean and well lit in the evening.Wheelchair accessibility: Building access and seating available and maintained for wheelchair access.“
“The food here was amazing and the space was low key, even low-rent looking. I walked in and approached the counter to order. The restaurant was sparsely decorated and felt bare. The order window was surrounded by menu items with pictures. The man at the counter proceeded to tell me about all of the specialties that were not on the menu. I had mariscos rancheros. The shrimp were salty, buttery, crisp and tender little presents of joy. Lying on a bed of hot, flavorful sautéed vegetables, with homemade tortillas so hot I couldn’t hold one for the first five minutes. My son was more conservative in his choice of beef tacos. He raved about the tender beef and flavorful fresh tortillas. I will be bringing my friends and family to this unassuming little gem with the great chef.“
“(Translated by Google) First time there and it did not disappoint, the place is clean and tidy and has a pleasant atmosphere, the food is well seasoned and served properly. I think prices are a little high but with the economy this is to be expected. I recommend.(Original)Primera ves ahi y no defraudo,el lugar esta limpio ordenado y ambiente agradable,la comida buen sazon y servida adecuadamente.precios creo un poco elevados pero con la economia esta es de esperarse.recomiendo.Kid-friendliness: Ambiente“
“09 Sept 2023 - 5 StarsI have not been here since shortly after they opened years ago. I'm not sure why it's been so long, to be honest. The food tonight was excellent, with a great price and very filling. My wife and I both want to return soon.Note: The atmosphere is not bad and, in many ways, feels more authentic and adds to the experience.“
“After being a customer for 15+ years, needless to say- this is my favorite taco place in town. I love the fact that the food here is wholesome. Ingredients are simple and I can order with confidence knowing the side of beans for my infant are not fried in lard and the tortillas are not dipped in oil. Just delicious handmade corn tortillas with whole toppings. What keeps me coming back is their fiery habanero salsa which never fails to disappoint!“
“Went in for lunch, had veggie tamales with rice and beans. All of the food was very good. The service was exemplary and the restaurant was very clean and nice to eat at. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone needing a good Mexican food fix.“
“I had no idea that Los Hernandez Tamales had a second location. I was really questioning the GPS when it was leading us there but it didn't lead us astray at all. I knew only of the Union Gap location which is not far from the Interstate and just a little south of the Yakima city limits. But this location does indeed have a Yakima address. In some ways I like this location a little more. There is just a few more tables and seats at this location than the other and if you want a beer to go with your meal you can have one. Menu is a little bit expanded as well which I am sure is good but we can never pass up these James Beard award winning tamales when we are in the area. The tamales are as good as ever. I had a pork one and a Jalapeño one and they were just out of sight like they always are. We get the meal usually and the rice and beans that comes along with the tamales are just stellar. So very glad to know that another location exists in Yakima. It's a bit of a drive from the Interstate, twenty minutes about but the extra bonuses would make it worth it not that the Union Gap location doesn't deserve just as much love.“
“We are a robotics team from Vancouver, WA, and compete in Yakima every Spring. Our team always looks forward to our Tacos El Rey lunch and the staff take such good care of us! Everything is made from scratch, is fresh, and delicious. The service is consistent, amazing and they're able to feed our entire team and mentors - 60 people! The prices are more than reasonable. Tacos El Rey is a highlight of our trip each year. Thank you!“
“(Translated by Google) The food here is really very good. Especially very fresh, the waiting time is sometimes an inconvenience for us, but really here every minute you wait is worth it. The best place to eat Mexican food in the city!!!(Original)De verdad la comida aquí es muy rica. Sobre todo muy fresca, el tiempo de espera a veces nos suele ser un inconveniente, pero de verdad aquí cada minuto que esperas vale la pena. El mejor lugar para comer comida Mexicana en la ciudad!!!“
“Came here for lunch and had the chicken sopes and they were amazing. This place does lack an ambience. It would be nice to have music playing at a low volume so I feel like I have to whisper during my conversation. The food and service was great and I will definitely return.“
“Fun stop with great tamales. Everyone with a question was treated like they were the first person ever to enquire. Food is great. Small, quaint establishment. Everything was fresh.Vegetarian options: Cactus tamale and asparagus tamale are great.“
