“Maxie’s is one of our favorite happy hour or dinner spots. Drinks are top notch, oysters are as fresh as can be, food is authentic and homemade. I have yet to experience a host, bartender, or server who. Was not 100% friendly, happy, helpful, and fun! I cannot recommend this place enough! In fact, we usually take some extra gumbo to-go after dinner to enjoy for lunch the next day!“

“Update! We took our 4 kids here for dinner and were so happy with our service! The food was amazing, everyone found something they wanted from the menu and we even tried the gater bites which were so good! Everyone finished their plates! We definitely plan to come back for date night!We were in a party room. They service and atmosphere were awesome. It was the perfect place to hold the gather. “We stop here will in Milwaukee and we were not disappointed. We had a large group (15 plus people) and the wait wasn’t long at all. The catfish was fresh and made to order and the service felt like family. They gave great portion sizes and my kids ate all their food and still wanted more! I highly recommend. “Decent BBQ for the Midwest. Ribs were not very tender and lacked distinct flavor. Smoked chicken was good. BBQ sauce options were no better than Sonny's. Service and atmosphere were good. We had no issues getting a table despite a large convention happening next door at the Baird Center.“

“These folks regularly appear at the South Shore Farmer's Market. And I have never tried their normal barbecue items. But whenever I am there, I try their vegan specials and every one I've had has been delicious. A few weeks ago, it was a jack fruit stew. (While I was waiting for my order, another vendor from the farmers market came by and told the operators that the stew was the best thing he had every eaten at the farmer's market.) Today, I had a squash curry. It was rich, bright yellow, and smelled and tasted delicious.Some restaurants' "vegan" food is bland and plain. Not this place. Highly recommend for people looking for vegetarian or vegan options.“

“They hooked us up pre-Christmas this year! When we want a home cooked southern style meal, we come here. And we come here often. At least every 3 weeks. And they never disappoint, no matter what we order. They plate it to go, nice and neat and the fried foods stay crispy! And I tell everybody at work if they want a good Ole country meal come here.“
