“My old favourite Pho place closed and I was bereft of Pho! Five years, Pho-less! I sort of discounted the possibility of a replacement, and Pho Daddy looked too mainstream or regular from the street, but in the recent dip to 8.5 million degrees below zero, I decided to go up the spiral staircase, and I am happy I did. Super, flavourful -- awesome people, and a good window to sit.“

The Satay Beef Noodle Soup with Peanuts is a must-try, with its flavorful broth and tender beef, perfectly complemented by the fragrant peanut taste. The restaurant not only offers great food but also a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, along with a friendly and enthusiastic staff. I also loved the Vietnamese sandwiches and the DIY wraps, which really gave me the feeling of enjoying authentic home-cooked meals. “Superb customer service - I misunderstood a menu item as in past I've ordered a rare beef satay soup at other establishments and it came with a peanut sauce stirred through. Here it meant chilli oil, which was already added to the soup, and unfortunately was too much spice for my lips or belly to tolerate. As I was scanning the menu for something else to order the staff brought a smaller bowl of broth and noodles without chilli oil, complimentary. The depth of flavour in the broth was exceptional, truly delicious, and I left a very happy customer.

“it’s tucked inside dragon city mall, which probably explains why it looks so modest. the dining area is very clean, especially for a pho restaurant. the noodles were a bit overcooked for my taste, so although i can’t say it’s my favorite pho, it was still an enjoyable experience“

“I absolutely love this place. The chicken satay with cheese is the tastiest sub that I have ever had in my life. Sometimes I would get bone bits in my sub, I would get upset for a second then happily chow down the rest. Their sub is just that good :D I also love their buns and Hawaiian pizza. They close much later than the rest of the stores in MacHall.

I graduated in 2017 and have moved to a different city. I can't eat any other banh mi without comparing them to Bake Chef. I miss this place so much, it hurts. I miss the buns and hawaiian pizza too. I have so many fond memories of eating chicken satay after long hours at the library or after final exams lol

2025 Update
I finally got to eat my favourite sub again... after 8 long years of longing. The sub didn't suffer any shrinkflation. This is still my favourite sub.“

“We visited the market on the recommendation of the Concierge at our hotel and it was amazing! The variety of vendors and quality of the food & drink was impressive. I had an Indian meal while my wife had Mexican. We ordered some nice wine and ate on the open air patio. We were surprised by the number of young families and pets, but it really made the atmosphere more enjoyable. We very much encourage a visit to this market if you find yourself in Calgary!“

“I am VERY happy I found this hidden gem! I have never heard of this place, but I am so stoked we came across this place.

You know it's a family restaurant from the moment you go in, and the hospitality matches the warmth. We were met with the friendliest lady, mentioning there was no meat--which is why we came. I eat vegan and my cousin and I chose this place due to the menu looking enticing.

We ordered the Banh xeo as an appetizer to share (RECOMMEND!) and were basically full when our main course came. The bun bo hue looked FULL of proteins and vegetables, and the broken rice with shredded tofu was SO good. The tofu was so crispy and flavourful.

I am very excited to try this place again!!! Very vegan friendly and obviously, everything is fully vegetarian!!!“

“Definitely one of the best vietnamese restaurants I've ever eaten at! I came here for lunch and the place was packed by 12:30, Yet my food came so fast I could hardly believe it. The prices are very affordable. I orded the Lobster seafood satay noodle soup, and some salad rolls. The soup was so flavorful and had 1 full large lobster tail and a small 1/2 tail. This soup was only $20. A normal seafood noodle soup was around $13, so I litterally only paid 7$ for lobster! The salad rolls were big snd fresh, and the peanut sauce was creamy & warm! I will definitely be coming back to try some other dishes.Still the best in Calgary.“

“I forgot to take a picture because I dove right in! I got the beef pho and the broth is absolutely delicious! It’s a cute little shop with an easy to navigate menu, and I love that they have staple options to choose from! Reduces the whole “what should I get” decision paralysis I normally have.

The broth is fantastic, the couple that runs the shop are super sweet, and service is quick and neat! Highly recommend popping in.“

“Great little ma and pa pick up restaurant. I've never come across a place that does both Vietnamese subs and bbq meat. Subs are reasonably priced at $9 (summer 25) and are made to order with fresh ingredients (cilantro, jalapenos, carrots cucumber). They also melt with some cheese on top, which I found to be a unique surprise. Bread was soft on the inside and crusty on the outside. A few people were waiting inside for their orders. No place to sit and eat but a quick, inexpensive, satisfying meal.“

Dishes were great size. We ordered Banh Canh Cua, Ngheu Hap Thai and Goi Cuon Tom.
In the beginning, we were asking the staff that if Banh Canh Cua contained meat at all (we could only eat seafood), but when it came out there was pork on it. As we were kinda disappointed but we were fine as we didnt want to make it challenge for staff. However, staff came out and offered to remake it for us. We appreciated the service and their understanding. Great dinner and would def recommend if you want to try Vietnamese dishes“
