12 Best American Restaurants in Athens

“I picked up lunch here for the fam. Mom passed away on the 9th. We were all at her house going through her things and everyone was hungry. I wanted to buy local food instead of going to a big chain and Cafe 72 was close by, so Cafe 72 it was.
I called the order in for pickup and the voice on the other end was so polite and helpful. Not to mention it was a big order and we got everything we asked for.
The bacon cheeseburgers are big and delicious! May, lettuce, tomato ,bacon and cheese of course. The buns are heated on the grill which, to me, sets the whole burger off. We ordered three of those. My wife, my nieces boyfriend and I ordered them.
The crispitos are big and packed with beef. My little sister and brother-in-law ordered those. We asked for a side of cheese and sour cream and we got it.
My niece got the BLT with a side of mayo and her little boy got the kids corndog meal. He ate it up, too ?
The atmosphere was welcoming and as I looked around the dining room I saw some veterans sitting around eating, which I loved seeing. It gave me the feeling that this place is appreciative, thankful and respectful of our great country's veterans.
Cafe 72 has great food y'all. I didn't get any pictures this time, sorry. Go by and eat there. From looking at the online menu they have a lot of great food to choose from.
This order came out to around $47...to feed 7 people! You will not go to the big chain restaurants and feed that many people with such a small bill. I was amazed at this and I am so glad we chose Cafe 72 for lunch that day.“

“My son and I stopped by the Hwy 31 location for lunch. I ordered the small catfish meal. It comes with fries which I exchanged for turnips and Cornbread. The catfish was cooked to perfection and the fresh turnips were spot on turnips. The Cornbread muffin was light and fluffy. The meal was a great value and made my tastebuds happy. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend Ramona J's to anyone who wants great food for a great price. Go ahead and tantalize your tastebuds.“

“This is a great place! The 5 star rating they have acquired is based on facts! This is a military friendly restaurant that is inviting and flexible. My husband and I went there yesterday after researching where to get the best burgers. This was the only place that had a 5 star rating so we had to go. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and it was very clean inside. We were able to place an order to go so my husband ordered the burger with everything on it and fries. I was able to order off menu a plain burger with 1 tomato slice. My order may seem simple enough however I have been to countless restaurants that never pay attention to what I ask for. They will always put something extra that I have to try and wipe off like mayonnaise. The GeezBurger Chef made my burger exactly as I asked and it was so delicious I can’t express. My husband loved his burger as well. Also the fries are phenomenal. I have never had fries like this. It was almost like the fries had its own special coating. We were able to speak with a wonderful military veteran couple that told us they have been coming for a long time and love it. I highly recommend GeezBurgers - it is outstanding!“

“Our visit to this Applebee's restored my faith in the chain. Quick service. All the food was REALLY good. We were traveling and checked reviews for other restaurants and took our chance since we haven't been to an Applebee's in years. We chose wisely.“

“Ribs were very good, tender & flavorful! Bbq sauce was yummy. Banana pudding was sadly a rip off, mostly got a tub of whipped cream, so that was disappointing since thats the main thing we went there for. Staff was nice & love the simple, old school atmosphere that you rarely find these days due to all the gentrification around here.“

“We had a bad experience when the Madison location opened and when we got one here in Athens my husband and I decided to give it another chance. We are SO glad that we did! “Catfish Cabin is locally owned and they have the best food in Athens and the reason they run out of fish is because they stay buzy all time and if u haven't ever worked in fast food then u don't know what the workers there go through they try there best to please everyone that comes in but thats impossible and if ur short staffed like everyone is now you got to wait I don't see no body leaving the lines at Burger King r mickie d love the food there and there workers r amazing .Catfish Cabin gets 5 stars plus“

“The only negative part of my experience was a long wait in the drive thru line. The food was spectacular and I highly recommend the lobster bites. They are crunchy, buttery and should be a permanent item on the menu, year around. I got a four piece fish dinner with fried okra and macaroni and cheese. The fish was cooked perfectly and the sides were fantastic. The hush puppies were moist and hot. Paired them with a large sweet tea and I had a marvelous dinner.

The staff was super kind and very attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant and it definitely helped quell my seafood craving. I would give it a ten star rating if that was possible. Enjoy!“

“The old Athens, AL Waffle House is all around much better than the newest Waffle House on Hwy 31. Service is completely 100% better as is the food. The dining area may be a bit older but I can handle that with the other options.

Parking: There's plenty of parking area around the restaurant.

Kid-friendliness: We always see kids there.

Wheelchair accessibility: It's pretty much even with the parking lot and although there's a small ramp to the sidewalk, it's really not needed.“

“Excellent place for Breakfast! Please note at the times we have visited, they were very short staffed. However ... our wait was minimal and overall service of the staff was GREAT! The staff works really well together, covering whatever area needs to be covered and backing each up other up. It was pleasant to see such teamwork. The food was tasty every time and they always fix me a coffee "to go". Great place to eat and great price. But most of all ... FANTASTIC STAFF! Special shout out to Sandra!“
