Bustling and hustling during the lunchtime feedings. Fun and busy atmosphere for sure. Great folks at Gilchrests too - always the same dedicated, and super friendly staff at the helm. Must be how they have maintained such consistency and earned their loyal patrons!It's been a regular stop for me and my family for at least the past 40 years. “I took my daughter to lunch at Daniel George yesterday. It was delicious. I had the fried oysters with 2 vegetables and my daughter had the crab cakes with 2 vegetables. The service was excellent. This has become my favorite lunch spot because of the food selection, the good service, and the setting. We will definitely be going back soon.“
“Munchin' & brunchin'. My wife & I enjoyed a relaxing Sunday brunch at Porch. This was our 1st time dining here. Porch is located in Crestline Village in Mountain Brook. I ordered the Panko Fried Chicken featuring cheese grits & braised collards with a drizzle of sweet-hot mustard. After one bite of the collards alone, I was incredibly happy with my choice. The collards were PHENOMENAL! Little bit of heat, little bit of sweet, the right amount of tang. They didn't need a thing. The fried chicken was also excellent. Lovely crunch from the batter, perfectly moist inside. The grits were lusciously creamy. I would have loved a touch more sweet-hot mustard, but otherwise this dish was flawless. My wife had the Truffled Farro Bowl featuring toasted farro, roasted beats, brussels, grilled onions, carrots, (86 goat cheese) & balsamic glaze. They certainly didn't skimp on the tasty veggies. She said she'd order this again even when Veganuary is over. I tried a bite & agree...I would order this dish myself. It's outstanding. It's great to know Porch offers vegetarian/vegan friendly options. The atmosphere at Porch is cool & relaxed. The walls are adorned with colorings of dancing bears, Grateful Dead memorabilia & SEC team flags. A little hippy, a little sports bar, a lot of excellent food. Service was friendly & knowledgeable. They offer a full bar. I like it here. Let me put it this way...the food is so good that I think I had a stupid grin on my face the entire meal! “Our first time here. We both had the salmon but different dishes. We both enjoyed. There with friends. They also thought their food was good. Reservations are a must for a Saturday night! We had them and walked on by many, many waiting for a table. If I had to describe it to someone, I would use the words “upscale sports bar”. We will likely go back.“
“Great dogs, Birmingham staple. The kraut and the special sauce hot dog is phenomenal. I could smash like 5 of them no problem. The beef special dog is basically like the original dog with kraut, mustard and the sauce with the addition of ground beef on top. Soooo good!! Lastly the chili cheese dog is quintessentially American in a food. Classic. Environment is a tight space but you wouldn’t want it any other way. The service was friendly and prompt. This is a must stop in Birmingham.“
“I’ve been coming to this spot for over 10 years. I was out of town and went to one and enjoyed it and was like why doesn’t Birmingham have one. Simple google and we did. I love how the menu changes with the seasons. I love your spring, summer and fall menus the most.Today I had a pitcher of Blueberry Lemonade mimosa, with the Lemon Pound Cake French Toast with eggs and chicken sausage. I also had to get a serving of city grits. I enjoyed my food and the atmosphere as always. My waiter was a sweetheart and she did an amazing job. This is always a go to bunch spot for me. It’s literally close to everything in the city.Parking: Parking is on a busy street with extra parking across the street. There are a few spots that are for short term parking. The flow is good. I’ve never taken over 5 mins to find a spot and get to the door.“
