Byron's Smokehouse 436 Opelika Rd, Auburn Barbecue • $

“Update on the update: The owners were retiring so they sold the business to the same guys who own Baumhower's Victory Grill. Looks like the regulars have kept coming because the place is pretty packed for lunch. As far as I can tell from a single plate of barbecue it hasn't changed all that much. Fried potatoes are still golden fried deliciousness and you just can't beat their cornbread. I did notice from their posted hours that they close right after lunch so don't expect any barbecue for dinner. I was worried this great Auburn eatery was facing the same fate as Price's Barbecue House and being bulldozed to build another student housing complex. Thankfully that is not the case.”

Equally delightful were the crispy fish n’ chips and the zesty satsuma tart, each dish expertly crafted to tantalize the taste buds. The attention to detail was impeccable, from the personalized handwritten note gracing our table to the napkin that perfectly matched my outfit. Bow & Arrow 1977 E Samford Ave, Auburn Barbecue • $$

“Bow & Arrow Restaurant in Auburn, AL is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I have always had a delightful experience and the food is abolutely delicious. Bow & Arrow serves up an assortment of smoked meats that can be enjoyed on their own with an array of traditional southern and tex mex sides like mashed potatoes and gravy, collard greens, borracho beans, and sweet corn rice. The menu also includes enchiladas, fajitas, tacos as well as a brand new cocktail menu featuring twenty-six new libations, with of course, margaritas! I had the BBQ sandwich with fries and it was absolutely delicious and my server was very friendly and was attune to my needs.”

Ariccia Cucina Italiana 241 S College St, Auburn Italian • $$

“Met my daughter (an Auburn student) for dinner after a conference at the hotel. We had a lovely experience and will absolutely be back and recommend. We had a leisurely dinner, from the focaccia to splitting the crunchy chocolate dessert cake. We split a bottle of champagne and had the relaxed, no-rush to hand us a check experience that is so rare in US restaurants. The focaccia wasn’t traditional, and a baker would probably say it was too soft, technically. Well, we could have eaten six of them, it was so good. Would have liked a more robust olive oil with it, and I didn’t get a lot of the rosemary flavor as its name promised, but it was a treat to open the meal with. Highly recommend. She had the beef filet cooked “medium-rare plus one minute,” and it was perfect. She said the seasoning was “a little uneven,”heavier on one side, but I didn’t detect that in the slice I stole. Nicely cooked and super tender. I had the shrimp fra diavolo: spicy sauce and succulent shrimp. I could have taken a little less of the sauce for a lighter dressed pasta, but that is really nitpicking. Dessert: not too sweet and a perfect ending. The menu is varied, with pizzas, antipasto and vegetables (really likes our roasted cauliflower), but small enough for attention to detail. Our meal wasn’t cheap: appetizer, two entrees, dessert and a bottle of wine, but it was a great night. A three-hour evening of good food, drink and conversation. Diners around us were having fun. And students on limited … funding … can split an appetizer and a pizza and not feel it too hard in the bank account. Leftovers were packed away and ready for another day.”

“Solid 4 star rating! Got the sesame chicken (which tasted a bit like General Tso's chicken bc it had a bit of a spice kick to it) nonetheless still good. We also ordered the crab ragoon (not pictured) they were ok. Not very much filling inside and tasted a little old/cold. Also ordered two egg rolls. Pretty standard, but also smaller than average. Ambience was generic, but clean. The to go lady was friendly. Will return but might try something else next time.”

“We were in town for a couple of days and needed a place for lunch. Jim 'N Nick's was recommended by our hotel. BBQ from Alabama was high on my list and, oh by, was this the place! Sitting at our table, watching them serve another group with a full rack of ribs, I almost fell out. The 1/2 rack was double the amount of tasty, falling off the ribs, BBQ. Another of our group described the ribs and meaty, and they weren't wrong. Service was excellence, the place was comfortable, but the ribs.... Why talk about anything else. Oh, my bride had the loaded potatoes and was totally happy.”

Panda Express 1310 Wilmore Dr, Auburn Chinese • $

“Panda Express is a place I find myself returning to, especially when I crave a change in my regular dining routine. Their menu, which I've thoroughly explored, offers a delightful range of flavors. My personal favorites include the Orange Chicken, Beijing Beef, and shrimp (both flavor). These dishes never fail to hit the spot with their rich and distinct flavors? The Chow Mein deserves a special mention too. It's generally good, but there have been instances where it didn’t seem as well-prepared as it could be. This inconsistency is a minor drawback in an otherwise fantastic dining experience. One aspect that continuously impresses me is their service speed? Despite often encountering long lines, I've noticed that the staff at Panda Express efficiently manages to keep the wait time short. This efficiency is a testament to their commitment to customer satisfaction, making it a go-to spot for a quick and tasty meal.In conclusion, Panda Express stands out for its delicious offerings, especially when you're looking to diversify your palate? Their ability to serve quality food swiftly, even during peak hours, makes them a reliable choice for a satisfying meal?”

“I love this location. I go there frequently and the service is always fast and the food is always great! Frankly I go out to eat too often, but I can honestly say, compared to a lot of other fast food establishments, this location is better than most around here. Even the Zaxby's on South College is worse; their food tastes genuinely bad. Not this one! I highly recommend the E University location for Zaxby's in Auburn! I only took off 1 star because it's expensive for fast food and this location could offer more discounts.”

“Coming from Atlanta where a strong Mexican culture has fostered many good restaurants, our expectations were not the highest. Lo and Behold, this place rocks. Their guacamole can hold its own with Atlanta's best. The salsa has a nice cumin note. We ordered Huevos, burritos and tacos. Everything was really good. If I was nitpicking I might say that the spice level was dialed down for a typical American palate. Staff was extremely welcoming and efficient. Recommended!”

“If I could give you more stars you are MORE THAN DESERVING!!! Allow me to shine a spotlight on the MOST AMAZING PERSON EVER. ANA IS SIMPLY AMAZING!! I placed a To Go order around 6PM and my friend picked it up. I order the same sandwich every time. The Orange Cranberry Club. It's Always Delicious and perfectly made. Always NO LETTUCE due to an allergy to the protein contained in lettuce. Anyway I didn't sit down to eat until 930PM and when I opened my box there sat my nemesis LETTUCE. I immediately called only to look it up as the phone was ringing and realized they were closed. But just as I was about to hang up and plan on a call Ana picks up. I explained my dilemma expecting to return it tomorrow for the correct sandwich just making it known that it wasn't correct and I will be there tomorrow. Ana apologized and offered to not only remake it but deliver it to my house. I told her she didn't have to, but she wanted to make it right. Talk about ABOVE AND BEYOND!! ANA EXEMPLIFIES STELLAR CUSTOMER SERVICE!! As long as Ana is there McAlister's can have all of my money. I will return again and again. She is JUST AMAZING!! So sweet, Pleasant, and Kind. McAlister's you are blessed to have Ana on staff!! Oh yeah my sandwich was delicious as usual, but even better this time because Ana made it. ❤️ her!!”

“I'm going to start off by saying that this chipotle is way better than the chipotle in tiger town. The chips and the rest of the food is fresh (unlike the tiger town chipotle where the chips are ALWAYS stale) and the food is pretty good. Their lemonades are TERRIBLE though, do NOT get a pomegranate lemonade just stick to the fountain drinks (I'm unsure if they weren't doing something right cleaning wise or if the lemonades are just bad). Like any chipotle, how good the value of your food is depends on who is serving it. The managers are not good at fixing the food, they don't give you the right amounts. The regular workers do a good job. Overall the food is good and the chips actually have limesalt (UNLIKE tiger town's Chipotle), so I reccomend if you want chipotle.”
