“Smells like rotten meat as soon as you enter the establishment, so I did not have food there. Service was terrible. Server was rude and didn't make eye contact or connection. Just staring at the hand held order device. had to repeat myself 4 times to order a "double jack splash of coke on the rocks." I received soda and a splash of jack but was billed for a double. Atmosphere is less than desirable. I've been in dive bars with cleaner bathrooms. Terrible experience all around.“

“It’s been 13 years since I last dined at the Flying V Bar & Grill at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, and my recent return was both a nostalgic trip and a delightful rediscovery. The restaurant’s ambiance has only become more spectacular over time—walk through the elegant wooden doors and you’re greeted by a warm, Southwestern-inspired interior, with rustic wooden beams, earth-toned walls, and glowing pendant lights that create an inviting lodge-like feel. Just beyond lies the terraced deck, where you can sip your cocktails while gazing out over a serene lake, the well-manicured golf course, and the breathtaking Catalina Mountains and the Tucson city lights in the distance. It’s a magical setting that showcases the desert’s natural beauty in all its twilight glory.
We began our evening with two signature cocktails: the PICANTE COWBOY and the CROWN JEWEL. The PICANTE COWBOY—featuring Maker’s Mark, Ancho Reyes Verde, ginger agave, lemon, and hellfire bitters—offered a bold, smoky flair underpinned by a subtle peppery kick. The ginger agave added a pleasant sweetness, balancing the tang of the lemon and spice from the bitters perfectly. Meanwhile, the CROWN JEWEL—mixed with Patron Reposado, pineapple turbinado, and orange bitters—delivered a tropical fruitiness that was neither saccharine nor overpowering. Both drinks were impeccably balanced and showcased thoughtful mixology, though at a premium price point. Sipping these alongside a basket of fresh artisan bread and a luxuriously whipped butter “concoction” felt like a quintessential Southwest indulgence.
For dinner, we shared the GRILLED PRAWNS—a dish composed of leche de tigre, cucumber, serrano, coconut milk, cilantro, and confit squash. The flavors dazzled with their bright acidity, creamy coconut undertones, and fresh herbal notes. My only critique was the portion—three sizable prawns made it awkward to share, and we found ourselves playfully vying for the “odd one out.” Moving on to our main course, we opted for the CHILEAN SEABASS. Presented in a pool of walnut consommé with kabocha squash and a dusting of pistachio matcha, the fish was expertly cooked to a buttery, flaky finish, seasoned just enough to enhance without overwhelming its natural richness. Curiously, both dishes arrived with the same slice of undercooked squash. While flavorful in theory, the squash’s firm texture left parts of it inedible. It was a minor misstep but noticeable given the otherwise refined execution of the plates.
Service throughout the evening was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable—servers appeared at just the right moments, kept our glasses filled, and were eager to answer any questions. The romantic atmosphere, panoramic views, and the warm glow from the interior’s rustic décor all contributed to a memorable night.
Though portion sizes were on the modest side—particularly for the price—the overall experience of dining at the Flying V Bar & Grill remains elevated by the quality of the cuisine, the captivating setting, and the attentive service. After 13 years away, I’m delighted to report that Flying V continues to shine as one of Tucson’s most distinctive and enjoyable dining venues.

“Today’s lunch at Chef Brian’s Comfort Kitchen was nothing short of delightful. I had the pleasure of dining with my neighbor, and from the moment we stepped through the door, we were warmly welcomed by the attentive staff—and even greeted personally by Chef Brian himself.
We both opted for the salmon croquettes, and they were absolute perfection. Generously portioned, beautifully crisped, and paired with an incredible sauce that elevated every bite. For my side, I chose the sweet potato and sage soup, which was savory, well-balanced, and deeply flavorful. My neighbor offered a taste of her sweet potato bites, which were just as impressive—expertly cooked and seasoned with care.
Service was top-notch throughout. The staff was not only friendly but also impressively attentive, bringing us take-home containers before we even asked. It’s the kind of thoughtful touch that sets a great dining experience apart.
As we were finishing our meal, Chef Brian came out to thank us personally and invited us to return. It was a kind gesture that made the visit feel that much more special—and we absolutely will be returning.
Other highlights include ample parking, and pleasant background music at just the right volume, allowing for easy conversation.
Final Verdict: A+
Chef Brian’s Comfort Kitchen lives up to its name in every way—comforting food, warm hospitality, and an inviting atmosphere. Can’t wait for our next visit!“

“There’s plenty of places in Tucson to get a good sonoran dog. This place is definitely worthy of checking out. Might not be a restaurant, but I feel like their food and prices are way better than any restaurant in town. The size and style is perfect not too much definitely would order two. Me and the crew will probably go again for lunch tomorrow.“

“The food was exceptional, as always. It rained yesterday, so the humidity was very high. They were running evaporative cooling, which doesn't work above 37% humidity. As a result, it was extremely uncomfortable inside, think southern swamp. Hot, humid, and sticky“

“I’m a fan!! I love all of the toppings that they offer on your burger! The Graze sauce is bomb, and the other dipping sauces they provide. Their sweet potato tots are the best I’ve ever had.
My usual is: a single, grass-fed beef patty, no cheese, no raw tomato, no raw onion. Yes to: grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, grilled jalapeños (all free toppings), Graze sauce, sometimes lettuce, usually I add bacon — and sometimes I add an egg!!!!“

“I cannot say enough good things about this place. The staff are amazing, so friendly and accommodating. The cauliflower was amazing!! Meals were perfect, great flavors, perfect portions. Outdoors is made for children, or adults who want to have fun. There are games galore and a lending library, seriously, who does this to entertain your children? It was comfortable and cozy and charming and delicious. I'm only sorry it has taken me this long to get there, my new go to spot. Thank you so much for being a fabulous place to be on the east side!!!“

“The Diablo burger! Zinburger on Grant Rd in Tucson. Full bar and large area for dining! Most burgers are $14 with the option for fries or side for another $2.50. We had the Zucchini fries for an appetizer. You could easily come in and just eat those, they are that good. I had the Diablo burger, (see photo). It was fantastic! Grilled jalapeños and pepper jack cheese. It was perfection on a bun. Most everyone’s burgers soaked their buns to the point the buns were falling apart from the juice. The buns were brioche and to me the only option for a burger. The staff was very friendly and the entire experience left me hoping my digestive system works overtime so I can come back sooner. Check out Zinburger on Grant Rd in Tucson, you may not go anywhere else!“

“Right when you walk in, it feels different. It is almost like you have been there before even if you never have. There is art all over the walls and it almost feels like you are in a museum until you reach the register all the way at the end of the restaurant. All of the staff was super friendly and PATIENT, which is so sweet when you are new to the area/menu. I got the Greek pasta with chicken. Everything tasted so damn good and was so fresh. It was under $20 and for what you get, seems like it is too good to be true. However, it is. The truth is this place is really special and makes great food. It has an accepting and welcoming vibe. Pretty sure that is why the food tastes so good. I am going back again today. You should eat here too, you will not regret it.“

“We love Kingfisher so much that we had our wedding there 4 years ago. So of course we celebrated our anniversary there last night! New owner Jackie and her wonderful staff saw to it that we had a wonderful meal, including a very special dessert. When Murph and his partner retired we were concerned about how the place would change but our subsequent visits have been wonderful. Highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates great food and fabulous service!“

“Last Sunday, I decided to visit Bistro 44, which is conveniently located not far from my home. They offer a promotion of 50% off all burgers on Sundays, making it an attractive dining option. The burgers were incredibly tasty. Unlike many of the other restaurants in the vicinity, the french fries at Bistro 44 stood out as being truly excellent, perfectly crispy and seasoned. Additionally, there is a bar section attached to the restaurant, which adds to the overall atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, contributing to a delightful dining experience.“

“In the heart of Old Town Tucson, in its most atmospheric area, this is one of the most unique restaurants we have visited in this city. The timeless décor of yesteryear, fused with its woodgrain façade, it is simplicity in itself, yet alluring in nature, encapsulating soul of and feel of the old, with an iconic clash between chic and classic and new. And the eats, well, they’re almost if not as unique as the atmosphere. From some exceptionally fine wines and cocktails, and entrees worthy of gluten haters, vegans, and vegetarians, as well as meat lovers such as I. From Pâté De Campagne to Smoked Whitefish Rillettes, or from Angus Beef Tartare to Wild Boar Birria Bucatini, there is bound to be something here for everyone, regardless of predilections. This relaxing, quaint, and comfortable locale is easy on your wellbeing, relaxing and comfortable, superbly serviced and by any means considered incredible eatables! The food is terrifically prepared, served and devoured. A must visit while in Tucson… and if you are a local, lucky you.“
