Stopped by the Boss Bakery last weekend after not being there in a few months and the pork belly bao is still the best thing on the menu. I've probably eaten there a dozen times over the years and the staff always remember little things, like how my partner likes her coffee. We went around 10am on Saturday and got a window table without much of a wait, which is rare for that spot. Honestly the pastry case alone is worth the trip, but the full breakfast menu keeps bringing me back.
It has the classic Cantonese bakery items, although not the widest selection (I did go around 2pm.) as well as some refrigerated savoury items such as pork Bao.
I had the classic pineapple bun for $2.25 and it was very good. Soft, light, slightly sweet bread with a sweeter topping that provided a bit of crunch.
Service was quick as they weren't busy.

Based on recent reviews, The Boss Bakery & Restaurant offers a warm and unpretentious dining experience. The lamb curry has a depth of flavor from someone who knows what they are doing with spices, and the food is always perfectly heated and amazingly tasteful. The desserts are phenomenal; the blueberry passion fruit is so good, and the Japanese cheesecake is probably the best, tasting like pound cake with a slight cream cheese flavor. The Portuguese egg tart has an incredibly flaky and crispy pastry shell, and the pineapple BBQ pork bun is excellent with lean pork. The Yangzhou fried rice was noted as not having any BBQ pork, and some felt the food quality was not as good as it used to be. The atmosphere can be a bit noisy due to the elderly clientele. Staff are attentive without hovering, friendly, and welcoming, though dining in may take a bit longer unless you speak up. The price-performance ratio is very good, and everything is budget friendly, with beautiful, delicious cakes for less than $30.00.
