“Absolutely wonderful little gem! The mate is always perfectly brewed, goes well with so many different real fruit purees, but is definitely robust and delicious on its own. The empanadas are the best I've found anywhere in LA, and whether you're held to dietary restrictions or not, there are options for everyone to enjoy. There are an abundance of other goodies too, such as simple but tasty sandwichitos and a score of unique pastries to satisfy. All of this is wrapped up in a lovely, relaxed cafe environment with a kind, welcoming owner who really does make you feel like family. One of the best places in the Valley!

“Ooh, what a lively place. It is a packed place even on a late Thursday morning, but the food is quite good.

I had the avocado toast with two poached eggs and it was tasty. I added a sprinkle of pepper and it was set to go. Definitely interested in trying the rest of their menu.

Cold brew was also nice although not too memorable.“

“I have been going to Porto's since the 1980's..the one in Glendale. How elated I was with having them being in Northridge where I live. The food is terrific and the lines go fast due to a tremendous quick system they have. The catering for parties has never let us down and people you have invited that never have experienced Portos are thrilled. The cakes are delicious. What I do miss is not having the individual cake slices for purchase so you can experience the taste. They only have the neapolitan, Parisian, and carrot for slices. I've seen the menu change over time and do miss some of the items.“

“This was our first experience here, the people are all great and very welcoming! The food was great and as we all know we eat with our eyes, and let me tell you the presentation was amazing! Even my 9 year old said "wow look at the way the food came out, that presentation is amazing". All the from a 9 year old, so it definitely made an impression on him. I had the cafe de olla and it was really good, not to sweet it was just right! The breakfast sandwich I had was on point and well balanced, the hash browns were some of the best I have ever had, cook perfectly with the perfect amount of salt and flavor. My wife had the chila quilles, and she thought it was amazing, she never finished her food and she finished it all, which goes to say it was amazing! My two boys had the supreme burrito, and they also said it was better than many others they have had, they had a smoothie to drink and they both loved it. All in all this was a great addition to the scv and we will be coming back her many times to try all the different things on the menu. We had a nice conversation with the manager Jose who is very helpful and a super nice person. Since our regular spot closed, we haven't really found that great place for replacement, and I think this is the place. With them being new they have some kinks to work out, as with any new business, but it did not affect the quality of the food which shows management cares about the business. Jasmine was very attentive to our needs, and got everything right and on point with refills and keeping us updated on everything, which also shows she cares (this is hard to find these days). Give this place a shot and you will not be disappointed.“

“After I upgraded my coffee setup, I realized that the store-bought beans just weren't cutting it. So, I decided to check out some local roasters and found The Coffee Roaster. Their website keeps a log of when each coffee is roasted, which is super helpful. I recommend letting the beans rest for at least three days after roasting. While the prices are listed per pound, you can actually buy a quarter pound if you prefer. I grabbed some Ethiopian and Java beans since I wanted a medium roast with lower acidity. I just brewed the Ethiopian coffee with my espresso machine, and wow! The first thing that hit me was the floral aroma. It had low acidity and a really fruity flavor. I'm totally hooked!

I couldn't find any info on pulling espresso shots on their site, so I chatted with Steve. He suggested using 18 grams of ground beans to get 36 grams of coffee at 200°F in 25-30 seconds. I really hope they add that info to their site soon.

For my espresso, I grind 19.5 grams of beans and pull 42.5 grams of coffee at 198°F in 30-32 seconds. I'm excited to experiment with a 1:2 ratio and maybe try slightly higher temperatures!“

At the time of this review I think it is only the third day since its launch and I HIGHLY encourage everyone to go check it out the food was amazing! Two of us got the Ciopinno (seafood soup) and two of us got the Suprema de Pollo (breaded chicken breast stuffed with cheese and ham), Caramel Apple cheesecake and pumpkin cobbler bar for dessert. When I say I went in feeling not that hungry but CLEANED the plate I’m being so honest. I wish we had taken pictures but we immediately demolished everything. Our waiter (amazing service, great vibes, wish I remembered his name) too such great care of us. He let us know that this new menu is entirely from the mind of their head chef, who even came out personally to ask our opinions on everything (again, amazing). “Pao's Pastries was my first time having Bolivian food. Bolivian food is very hard to find in Los Angeles, and I believe Pao's Pastries is the only existing establishment that serves it. Their specialties here are the pastries, most specifically the saltenas, but they do have quite a menu of other stuff. Along with the chicken saltena, I also got the sopa de mani (creamy chicken soup), the silpancho (thin breaded steak) and relleno papa (potato ball). All of it was great. It's very similar tasting to Central American food. What I especially liked is the large portions of the food. Even the saltena was huge, bigger than any empanada I've had in other countries. If you want to try all your basic Bolivian foods, then this is the place to go. Everything tastes fresh, and from what I researched, it's pretty authentic. It's a taste of Bolivia in Van Nuys. Even their ice coffees here are pretty amazing. The only downside is street parking, but other than that, come here to enjoy the amazing food.
