“Down home menu, sparkling clean, friendly staff, old time vibe, EV chargers out back! Couldn’t ask for better. I bet they’d water your horse too, if you showed up on one. (Not very many vegan choices, but a girl can get by with a little creativity.) I’ll be back!Vegetarian options: Not too many. But you can make a salad work. With cheese bread! No vegan options“
“They've got great food, all cooked-to-order. So far, I've had their hot dogs, pizza, garlic fries, and a couple of other offerings. You can't go wrong. Though a bar first, I wouldn't (and haven't) hesitate(d) to drop in for dinner.Get there while there is still daylight, and you will be rewarded with an incredible view of the hills surrounding Colfax, and if you're lucky, a train snaking its way up (or down) the Sierras. The decor here is ultra-cool. Upon entry, you will understand why it is aptly named the Red Frog. But look a little closer.... everywhere. I have enjoyed this place several times throughout its years in existence. I recommend you to go give it a try. It will not let you down.-mike“
“The best pasties in Grass Valley! You won't find a better pastie anywhere, including the surrounding area. Having been in Cornwall to try the original, I can tell you a thing or two about delicious, authentic pasties. I've tried them all, and the authenticity is prevalent and bold. A statement is made every time they fold the delicate dough over the scrumptious filling.“
“Always excellent food, service, & atmosphere. Fresh juices and mimosas and coffees. I'm both my friend and I had egg scrambles that were delicious. No reservations taken so get there early and be prepared to wait a bit if mornings of Friday or Saturday.“
“I used to get my pies from the two famous places down in Auburn. Well...even with one of those two having new ownership, I can say that neither hold a candle to the pies from Happy Apple, and the Happy Apple pies are less expensive. My only beef is what I consider rather slow service, especially at the outside to-go window. This place has better food, too, than the Auburn pie place, at much lower prices.“
“This little gem on Mill Street in Grass Valley is a must try! We ate outside and were served fairly promptly. They're accommodating with umbrella placement and special requests. (Yes, we went there. ) I had a fritatta and it was so tasty. Everyone else was happy with their meals. Good fun.“
“This Cafe is wonderful. Very quaint and inviting. The ambiance is welcoming with Otis Redding singing in the background. There is outdoor seating as well. I had the ham scramble with sour dough toast and coffee. The eggs are very fluffy and good. I will definitely come here again and highly recommend this restaurant.“
“First time at this place. The food was good but not great by a long shot, it was extremely salty and barely edible. I did not finish it because it was too salty. Did the chef even taste this stuff before he sent it out, I don't think so. The service could have been a little better, there was long gaps between seeing the waitstaff. The atmosphere was nice being in an old hotel.“
“Went in for the 1st time on a stormy Saturday. Restaurant was mostly empty. Ordered the cheeseburger they had on special and it was delicious. 1/2 lb Patty, thousand island style sauce was great I went with everything but the onions. Service was prompt and friendly. Price for burger and a very generous amount of homemade fries was about $15. Well worth the visit. I will return and try out the Brats. ? Definitely a sports bar vibe with multiple TV's. Might be a good place to watch the 49ers whip the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII?“
“We have been going to the Monte Vista for nearly 40 years now, and we have always had a wonderful experience. But tonight was exceptional. My husband and I made a reservation for our 10th wedding anniversary and everybody there made it extra special. Out server Holland was extremely welcoming and helped us find some great vegetarian dishes, while Sharon made our cocktail selections a delight. Savannah made our night with a heart shaped whipped cream on our cake and loads of compliments that made us feel 10 years younger. Nadine was the kindest hostess we've ever met, a wealth of knowledge about the area and went out of her way to make our night fun. As usual ordered way too much food but we are looking forward to breakfast leftovers tomorrow. The next time you're in the area, be sure to stop by!“
“Outstanding atmosphere, service, food, and drink. The service was very attentive and nice. The food is always top shelf. We like hanging out at the bar with Annie and Gage. They run the bar like they own the place, crafting perfect cocktails, and entertaining us with genuine witty banter. Get the special, no matter what it is, delicious!“
“Just had a fantastic dinner. Tofanellis is always our go to place for brunch, but tonight we enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Great cocktails. Took a while to choose our entree from the delectable menu, and it was all delicious. Five star service, menu, and ambience.“
“Great place for breakfast. The staff was super friendly, and when I asked about the gravy used for the country fried steak breakfast, she told me it was the white gravy. But because I had asked if it was the sausage gravy they use for biscuits and gravy, she let me know they could substitute it. Definitely in the top 3 breakfast places I've been to across the country. Very filling portions and great atmosphere. If you're passing through, check out what the locals know is an excellent diner.“
“Loved the Thirsty Barrel! Highly recommend the truffle fries. They were seasonsed just right. Loved that they had vegan options as well, rare for a brewery! Our dog really loved the doggy patty too!!The wait time was long, but it was a Saturday night and we had a pup so we needed the patio. They could definitely fit more tables out there, in my opinion. That being said, they set us up at a makeshift bar spot because we had a long drive home, which was very nice of them!“
“Had a fabulous dinner and dessert. We had the shrimp cakes, Chicken sandwich, fish and chips and the amaretto bread pudding, all wonderful! Great atmosphere, sweet staff, very welcoming. Loved they had some table games to play while we waited. Food was fabulous! Great date night ?“
