“As someone who’s passionate about clean eating and mindful of digestive health, I’m always looking for restaurants that balance authenticity with freshness and care. My visit to GS Cafe was a wonderful experience that checked many of those boxes.

I ordered the veggie platter, which came with great portion sizes and fresh ingredients enough for a 2 or 3 more meals! The injera appeared to have some barley mixed with teff, so while it wasn’t entirely gluten-free (as other reviewers mentioned), it was still light, fluffy, and beautifully made. I did miss a bit of that traditional sour tang, but it was clear that real attention went into its preparation.

The Key Sir (beets) were the star of the show — tender, perfectly cooked, and incredibly flavorful. Honestly, it was the best beet dish I’ve ever had.
The Misir Wot (red lentils) was surprisingly mild — a thoughtful touch for those sensitive to spice like me. The entire platter leaned toward a gentler spice profile than most of the 50+ platters I’ve tried over the years, but the staff provided traditional spice mix on the side, which was a lovely option for those wanting an extra kick.

The Gomen (greens) had more of a creamed-collard texture than the al dente style I prefer, but it was still well-seasoned. The Fasolia (string beans) and Atkilt (cabbage and carrots) were cooked nicely, though a touch on the oily side — not enough to upset my stomach, but it could be lighter.

And wow! the Ethiopian smoothie was a beautiful surprise! A refreshing blend of avocado, mango, and strawberry, it struck the perfect balance of sweet, fresh, and hearty.

The staff were outstanding; kind, welcoming, and clearly proud of their food. The young man who served me had such a positive attitude that it genuinely added to the warmth of the meal.

Overall, GS Cafe is an excellent choice for those trying Ethiopian food for the first time or for anyone seeking authentic flavors served in a gentle, stomach-friendly way.“

They also have a great selection of craft beers on tap. The staff was super helpful and friendly. Small outdoor seating area, so its a nice spot to enjoy a scoop or pint with your dog.“

“It had been nearly 15 years since my last visit. I must say the decor is exactly as I remembered. Took 3 minutes to be seated then we were greeted by the most friendly and attentive waiter I’ve EVER had at any restaurant . I’m a huge lover of the cabbage salad so I gorged on a big bowl before dinner. I ordered a medium rare fillet and potato and it was cooked to perfection. I so wish I lived nearby as I would pay it a regular visit. I’m so glad the Clearmans Northwoods inn has not been changed.“

“I been a patron of Carlos Italian Market for decades. I recommend Carlos for their food, authentic Italian ingredients and supplies. The atmosphere is clean, organized and welcoming. The service is equally good and responsive to customer care.“

“I'm a huge breakfast fan, and THIS place is my always go-to spot in Covina. The staff is always friendly, the coffee is quite good and refreshed often, food portions are on the larger side, the taste is excellent, and the somewhat dated decor just fits the whole experience. “The place looks unique from the outside, also has a drive thru. Inside seating about 4 tables plus outside patio seating. Very friendly staff and inside decor has a very Hispanic/Mexican homestyle warmth. Now the food... so far I've been stuck on their carnitas and asada tacos! Comes with grilled onions and roasted jalapenos! Sooooo gooooood! Meat not dry and very tasty. They are not cheap on the meat either! I also love the abodado burrito (may have mis spelled that), I will try that on a sandwich next visit. Great little gem in town. Us over at the Acura dealer enjoy their food very much! See you guys there!“

“Mary is so sweet! I remember her when this was in the walnut location, but now they have moved here. Premium quality soy milk, soy dessert, buns and much more! Was able to try her fried tofu, and reheat it in my air fryer at home, so crisp, and good. Wish that she still sold some of her food items like she used to.

Keep note that it is only open 4 days a week, and it gets busy on the weekends. The place is clean, not that big but has a good amount of things that they sell. The outside doesn’t have a sign, as long as you go during the business hours it should be open. Give this place some love, will be back soon !“

“Townsent is a hit or a miss. I guess it depends who is manning the kitchen and who is taking your order. Today for lunch the food sucked. I ordered for 2 people, 1000 year pork, crispy fried shrimp, stir fried clams with ginger sauce and Kung Pao scallops. The 1000 year pork was a little chewy, normally it should melt in your mouth. The ginger clams and scallops had no flavor at all, we had to spice it up ourselves. It tasted like it was just boiled in water. The steam rice was soggy and looks like it’s been steamed way too long. The only thing I enjoyed was my hot tea. The waiter never checked on us at his own. We had to whistle him down. Maybe their food and services at night is a better hit. All I know is that I had good dining experience with them in the past. But today. It really sucked!“

“This place is like Subway, but with pizza instead of sandwiches (and much fresher ingredients). They have a menu of pizzas, but you can customize all of your toppings as you watch a staff member put it together for you every step of the way - from saucing to firing it up in the pizza oven so it comes out fast and hot. The crust is consistently perfect (thin and crispy), there are a ton of fresh, quality ingredient options, and the flavors are amazing. This is a place I have frequented for years and I can honestly say that I have never had a pizza I didn't like. I've tried a handful of them, but my go-to is the green pie (pesto basil sauce, mozzarella, feta, zucchini, eggplant, artichoke hearts & fresh tomatoes). My husband does not like vegetables too much, but even he has learned to let them make it as-is, without customizing it, because it is SO GOOD! The chicken wings are juicy, meaty, and delicious. The salads and Mediterranean plates are great as well (chicken/beef kabob, falafel or chicken shawarma served with rice, salad, hummus, pita bread, and garlic sauce). There is even a dessert counter where you can usually find an assortment of treats like macarons, Dubai chocolate bars, and Baklava. They also serve beer (bottled and on tap).

Aside from the great food, the place has a great ambience with a large & spacious indoor dining area as well as a large shaded patio area in the front (facing bustling Citrus Ave), big screen TVs, and even a little game machine for the kids. They do a great job of keeping it all nice and clean. A small touch I really appreciate is that they conveniently keep extra plates, silverware, condiments, and to-go boxes out in the front so you can use as much as you need without having to ask for them.

On top of all that, it's in a prime location in downtown Covina so there is plenty to do if you have some time to walk around. Great for families and casual date nights.

“I wanted more of my sushi fix. I found this place using Google maps. The reviews and pictures looked lovely, so I showed up. Firstly, you need to find out if there is the half off house rolls or not. I ordered using the paper like normal, when I was told a second house roll would be half off. I agreed. Holy moly, these rolls are HUGE. I've visited many sushi restaurants in California, and this place, their rolls are on steroids! One standard roll, is equivalent to almost 2 at this place. I don't remember exactly what I ordered, but the food was excellent. It was very well crafted and presentation was 10/10. Miso Soup was also included at no charge. I will return, and I suggest you visit too.“

“My husband's family used to go here many years ago and since we were in the area, he wanted to stop here for lunch. The food was still pretty good but there was a 10% service fee added to the bill. When I questioned our server he pulled out a paper from behind the counter that the manager had written saying to charge that fee to help offset costs and help them to stay open. I'm not sure if that's legit because it wasn't posted anywhere for the public to see nor was it mentioned at all when ordering or paying. It added $4.20 to our bill. That dishonesty will probably keep me from eating there again. Just be prepared to have an extra fee on your bill if you eat there.“

“I went today to Covina Burgers which I have not been in a very long time. With all the good things I was hearing my son and I went for lunch. First off my son is picky he ordered a breakfast burrito and didn’t finish it because it was too big. But his take was this is better than Farmer Boys. Because the amount of egg to meat and potatoes is even. He went on to say the fries were tasty with the right amount of salt. I ordered the chefs salad and it is big enough for two meals. I also ordered the zucchini because those are a favorite and was not disappointed. They were light crispy and delicious. We will definitely be back!“

I recently took my wife back to her hometown in La Puente, and we stopped at Snap E Taco in nearby Covina. The food was excellent — flavorful, fresh, and made with care. The portions were generous, and everything tasted just like authentic home-style Mexican food should.

The service was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere had that classic local charm that makes you feel right at home. It’s the kind of place that reminds you why small, family-run spots often beat the big chains.
