“We are BBQ folks. We smoke our own and have traveled the country trying different spots. There is so much that goes into BBQ. For those of us who truly love it; it's an art form and science of cuts, color, bark, brine -- the whole deal. We've experienced much of the local (Southern California) flavor and have found a few spots that excel. We moved up to Pasadena recently and were Yelping to see if there was a BBQ spot up here that we could try. When we came upon Mission I was skeptical. It didn't make sense that a BBQ spot would do catering and weekend farmer's market stuff. The only way to see if the reviews were legit was to give it a shot. We found the location at the farmer's market tucked away and because we were late in the day, had to pick from the meats that were left. Ribs, brisket, mac & cheese -- and the two sauces they stocked (mild & spicy). Our order was bundled and we brought it home and launched into the meal. Brisket -- soft, moist, flavorful. Brisket is not easy to cook. It can get dry and -- sometimes greasy from the fat. This was none of that. It was excellent -- some of the best ever. 5/5!!! Ribs -- very good. Solid. My personal perfect-preference is ribs that are just a touch less moist -- but we are talking the difference between 98/100 or 94/100. They were solid. Great flavor. Mac & Cheese. Excellent. Texture, color, flavor, taste -- all outstanding. 5/5!!! Sauce. We had a cup of each of their offerings: spicy and mild. Each had a lovely smokey flavor. The spicy had a nice kick without blowing the back out of your throat. Again -- this is a little nitpicky, but we find the perfect sauce to be a touch less sticky. We've had great first meals and horrible second meals at certain spots and horrible first meals and great second meals. We like to try the food several times before writing reviews so we ordered again for another experience. This time we added baked beans, burnt ends, and smoked chicken to the meal. Second time was exactly as great as the first time. Everything was solid, solid, solid. Now -- the thing that gives Mission six-stars is the folks behind the food. These people are dedicated to making a contribution to the world through food as few are. They are kind, generous, dedicated -- truly amazing!!!! Judith and her family are the kind of folks I want to invite over to have the food we just bought from them!!! Wonderful, wonderful people!! Thank you so much Mission!!!! “Walked in on a Thursday night and the place was half full. Didn’t need a reservation but getting a reservation over the phone was NOT easy. You get that rich, smoky smell from the grill as soon as you step inside. It’s got a solid, energetic and authentic vibe—casual enough for a quick dinner, but lively enough for a group night out.
Reservation was not necessary:
Booking a table was a bit of a pain. Called ahead and the person on the phone mostly spoke Korean, so communicating the reservation details took a few tries. That said, once we actually got there, the service inside was great. The servers were fast, attentive, and cleared empty plates right away without making us feel rushed.
Parking was easy and close by in the same shopping center.
Huge plus right off the bat: parking was super easy. Plenty of spots close by, which saves you the usual headache of circling the block forever.
The Food: Real Charcoal & Quality Beef
They use real charcoal here, and you can instantly tell the difference. You get that genuine smoky char on the outside that you just don't get from standard gas grills.
The quality of the beef really impressed me. Heavy marbling, super tender, and really rich flavor. Every cut came out juicy and cooked just right over the high heat. You're definitely getting high-grade meat here.

The phone reservation situation was a hassle, and we still had to wait about 10 minutes at the door even with a booking. A few of the side dishes were pretty standard compared to how good the meat was, but overall, the core meal was fantastic. This is someplace that I would like to go back again. Their last call for dinner is at 9:00 PM. Servers are extremely helpful and they cook your food to perfection, they also explain the menu and give their honest answer and suggestions.“

“Updated: I've been to this spot for years and it's still excellent. The base price is $32.99 but if you go at non-peak times you can save money. I still think you can get a great deal at that price point. Efficient service and great food as always.

WONDERFUL! This was my first all you can eat Korean BBQ experience. We came at 7pm and was ahead of the Saturday rush crowd, so we were seated right away. They have two price points with $22pp for the regular menu, which we opted for, because it had over 20 options on it! They bring you 3 selections at a time, and after you order more, the selection portions are halved so you don't waste food. Every single piece of meat was delicious, but the Beef Bulgogi and the Brisket were my favorites. The shrimp were a little hard to eat because they were on the small side and hard to pull the shell off. They also have 2 stations with hot items (appetizers, glass noodles/vegetables, mushroom/broccoli, wings, soup) and cold items (salad, onion/mushrooms for cooking, lettuce wraps, fruit).

The service was good, but they were incredibly busy in taking care of everyone. They were a good team and looked out if we needed a new grill plate, or if were ready to put in more orders.
