“I just came by after my dental appointment to check it out because it looked so cute inside. I ordered the detoxing juice and I wasn’t sure if I would like it but oh my goodness, the first sip was a long one because it was so good! I Wish I would have gotten the bigger size! I’m so glad me and my friend decided to just buy and try it! I definitely will be coming here again and trying out more of their menu. The owner was also very friendly! It’s a little hot inside tho! Wish I could have posted my drink too but it’s all gone now!“

“Wow, the pupusas are to die for!!! Have had them from several places even from family members, but these are soooo good and nice big portion.

“This place caught my eye as I was driving by because he was standing outside waiting by the street. For me? No, for his friend walking by. Looks like he is pretty generous and always ready to help someone in need.

I walked inside and this place harkens back to yesteryear. It's my first time but I feel like I've been here. . . in a past life. It's very fun in there. It's immersive. He welcomes you at the door as others have said. He recommended a dish and I don't really know which one exactly, but it's super good.

It's steak, tomato, red onion, and French fries on a bed of rice. I gotta admit I was a little apprehensive because of how old and run-down the place looked. But this was so good, I'm definitely coming back. The meat was cooked nicely, seasoned or marinated nicely, the fries looked underdone but they were cooked through and still held together by the time I got home without getting soggy.

FAIR WARNING. When he offers salsa picoso, it's very spicy, like skip mild medium, go straight to spicy-burns-your mouth.

I spent 22 bucks on this plate. So it's not a cheap plate, but it is a fair amount of food for the price. I ate half and I'll save half. Works for me.“

“I was in search of a good Chile Relleno Burrito and Google Maps suggested Calimex. I'm so glad it did! Easily one of the best I've ever had. The poblano chile was the star of the show. It was fresh and green, didn't taste heavily fried or buried underneath a ton of cheese. And the rice and beans packed a ton of flavor. Great flour tortilla too. It didn't look like the flour tortillas were homemade, but they were so fresh and delicious they could pass for homemade. Definitely a labor of love, the whole family is back there in the kitchen having a good time together and making incredible food. Will be back! Looked like a popular gathering spot for families and groups.“

“Came to the fairly newly reopened El Bueno Gusto for dinner and happy that we did. As it was a nice night, we chose to sit in quaint patio area. We were brought out tasty chips and salsa and the attentive waitress took our drink order. Just fyi, beer and wine is only served inside.
We ordered the fish tacos and shrimp fajitas. Boy, they were extremely tasty, really fresh flavors. The beans and rice were good.
Prices were reasonable as well!
We will be back to try the asada and other meat dishes.
Looks like they are open for breakfast too.“

I hosted my mother's 80th birthday celebration at this aesthetically, beautiful restaurant about three weeks ago, and let me tell you our guests are still raving about it! This place is truly a hidden gem in Whittier.

From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The Oaxaca-style food was outstanding, rich in flavor and beautifully presented. The dessert was a definite hit with everyone, and the ambiance was exactly what we had envisioned-warm, inviting, and perfect for such a special occasion.

Xotchil, one of the owners, was an absolute pleasure to work with-professional, extremely accommodating, and incredibly responsive to every question and request I had. Her team-Liz, Ines, and Raul-were equally amazing: friendly, attentive, and very professional throughout the entire event.

We were also grateful that the owners allowed us to bring in a Mariachi band, a Dueto band, and even a photo booth to make the night even more memorable. It was truly a magical and heartfelt evening, and I couldn't be more thankful for how everything came together.

This milestone celebration meant so much to our family, and choosing this venue was one of the best decisions I made. Thank you to the entire team for your excellent service and for helping create such a beautiful and unforgettable memory for my mother and all of us!“

“My new favorite place! So healthy and right sized portions. This was my first visit. Easily navigated the kiosk and liked how I could customize. Food came out super quick. “Ordered a bowl of albondigas and the chile colorado plate. Holy cow! Shouldve ordered one or the other. I cant breathe now. The soup was amazing. Came out perfect temperature. Veggies were right between soft and crunchy. Meatballs were perfect. Really good bowl of soup for sure. Chile colorado plate was great as well. Full of flavor and beef was very tender. Rice and beans were perfect addition to smear on the flour tortillas. Good music and good ambiance. Staff are very polite and professional. My iced tea never got even down to half a glass. Chips and salsa were also good. Salsa had a bite but not too much. Chips had just the right amount of salt. Awesome experience here. Im gonna ask to load next door every week. Lol“

The fried plantains with black beans and eggs with fresh tortillas I feel we're meant for pupusas which works for me. CASH ONLY. Street parking only with locals as most customers like myself. Hole in the wall special!! And know the homeless try to come in and beg for money which is interesting because the paying customers just ignore. Provecho.“

“This place is absolutely wonderful! I visited for the first time today and didn’t know exactly how to order, but the cashier was so kind and patient in guiding me through it. When I needed to use the restroom, she handed me the key at just the right timing. She also recommended a drink that turned out to be perfect for me—it was incredibly delicious! We even chatted, and she told me she had visited Ueno in Tokyo last year. Her service was truly outstanding and made my experience here extra special. “Restaurant doesn’t have any bells or whistles, simple hole in the wall but the menudo was delicious! Both my husband and I ordered it and it was HOT, a hint of spice and flavors well balanced. No idea about everything else but we’ll definitely come back.“

“We had the hots for broiled chicken and it was very good, it wasn't dry, it didn't feel like the chicken had been sitting in shelf waiting for a customer to ask for chicken to have your chicken to be quickly served, the seasoning was very light while at the same time it was juicy, the one full chicken was served on a big plate served with French fries, a lettuce salad for $46 (maybe the two sparkling waters elevated the total price this high) the price itself is a downer for us not to go back. It was good, yet not a to die for finger licking type of full flavor chicken for that price.

The atmosphere was the best, we happened to arrive at a karaoke time, and since I lived in the Karaoke Capital of the world, which is Japan, I can tell you that this place is a gem when it comes to Karaoke for Spanish-speaking mature people that enjoy the 70's probably stretching all the way to the 90's romantic broken heart ballads and songs that have to do with, so if this is what you are into, you won't be disappointed, they have the best sound system and everyone was enjoying the good talented amateur singers.

They have good parking, the restrooms are clean, the staff was very cordial, amicable and with very good positive attitude, if you come to eat during Karaoke hours expect a very loud music that feels nice if the music described above is the type of music that stimulates tu corazoncito o lo que aún le queda de corazón destrozado, a mí, me encantó, quizá deba ser que mi corazón parece parrilla de asador de esos que se utilizan para asar a las brasas.“
