“I'm glad that I didn't read the reviews before I went in because I totally would have missed a hidden gem. When we first walked in there was no one in here.. but it was 2:30 and the Good Will next door wasn't busy either so I didn't think much of it. The gentleman taking our order was extremely nice and answered all the questions and were super patient with us. We decided on the chicken quesadilla and 2 pastor and a carne asada taco. The price was a little higher than normal but not too bad. I've seen worse. A lot worse. As we waited for our food, I got to take in the ambiance... such a cute little place, dressed in yellow. Very pleasant atmosphere. It had a big tv that wasn't on, which I was glad. We went and checked out the salsa bar when he brought our chips and cups for salsa. All the ingredients were extremely fresh. I got the pico and the chipotle-type salsa and some of the carrots and jalapeños... so good. When our food came out I kind of hesitated because my quesadilla was giant. I'm iffy on chicken quesadillas because the meat is usually dry in them.. but not for this one! They used thigh meat instead of breast with was super tender and flavorful and a lot of cheese. His tacos were very good- the meat was moist and tender and there was a lot. On the way out I got one of those lime popsicles and he gave us a giant to go cup of the soda... and was so nice and thanked us so much for coming in. I tell you what- I am a satisfied customer. I will definitely be back next week and I'm going to force my friends to go. All of the people who did bad reviews- give this place another chance.“

“El Tapatio is a very special place indeed, and just a hop, skip, and a jump from the bigger, Central California city of Santa Maria. The fun begins when you enter and see a colorful, festive, happy place with a giant, old juke box that sits quietly at the entry, and vibrant Mexican music oom pa pa' ing loudly from the open galley kitchen. But best of all, it's the delicious smells that greet your descriminating nose. Eddie and Mimi, the dedicated, friendly owners/husband and wife team, are very proud of their little diner, as well they should be. This little cafe has been in the family since 1988, handed down from father to son in 2018. They don't take shortcuts. Each morning starts with a trip to the local market for fresh produce. And living in Guadalupe puts you right at the center of some of the finest, vast agricultural heartland you could imagine in California. It doesn't get any better for quality. Our eyes got bigger and bigger as the food rolled out. The first thing on my agenda before ordering had been to sample the chile verde sauce. It was a bright, lightly herbal tomatillo sauce with chunks of the juiciest pork I could hope for. I knew immediately things were heading in the right direction, so I ordered a chile verde enchilada. But I wanted to make this a combo because I could not resist trying the chile relleno either. The Chile Relleno was magnificent. Eddie starts with a cheese-stuffed, monster-sized pasilla chile and a delicate batter. He lightly cooks it so that platter-sized pasilla is still slightly crunchy. His salsa for the chile is homemade, made of sauteed, fresh tomatoes and onion. Wonderful, not greasy. Mr. B had eyes only for the Camarones Mojo de Ajo. What arrived at our table was a huge platter, half of it filled with medium shrimp in a generous butter garlic sauce cooked to perfection. As if the entrees were not enough to bring tears of joy to our eyes, the sides of beans and rice were superb as well. And I have to mention that the complimentary corn chips and salsas brought to our table when we sat down were our first clue that we were in for something special. Two small bowls of dip arrived, one containing their rich, authentic refried beans topped with a drizzle of verde sauce and melted white cheese, the other was a vibrant cilantro avocado sauce with a slightly spicy tang. The tortilla chips were freshly fried...they make their own. Mimi assured us that nothing is pre-made nor popped in a microwave here. There is no microwave. Easily verified, tasting was the final proof. This will be a regular stop for us when we pass through. Just make sure they are open that day. Don't waste your time in Santa Maria. I challenge you to find better, home-style Mexican cuisine than here.“

“Really really really good. I love coming here to eat and for take out. My wife always gets the nachos with fresh pico and I'll generally stick to a burrito. I attached a photo of my finished burrito (was planning on taking a picture of it before but it looked and tasted so good that I ate it all before remembering to snap a quick pic)“

“My choice pick for Mexican food in Santa Maria. I highly recommend the Fajitas plate(Either Steak, Chicken, or Combo) as these are simply fantastic. I did enjoy the Ceviche and I myself, are not the biggest fan of the dish itself; however the one done here is refreshing and great before consummation of the main dish that you order! Other things I enjoyed were the tacos(classic staple, right), specifically the asada and pastor are the go-to tacos that I've tried.“

“The staff was very knowledgeable and the food was great. The restaurant is a little small but I feel that's why the food was great. I got the Mar y Tierra fajitas and they were on point. The beef was well seasoned and tender and the shrimp had great flavor. I recommend this place.“

“La Pasadita is consistent with their traditional Mexican food and they have great hours! Most of the restaurants in Guadalupe have posted hours that they do not honor, but this restaurant is always open when they say they’re going to be open. Food is amazing, service is awesome and the atmosphere, well I usually get it to go…“

“Every time that I go to the natural café, the service is fast, the food delicious, and the ambience, relaxing. I have gone twice by now and will be going again for lunch with my daughter! Last night I wanted something light for dinner and chose the veggie chili which comes with cornbread and I was curious about the so I tried a slice of coconut cake. I must say that there are different approaches that I've noticed we with vegan desserts based on who makes it. Sometimes they could be too sweet for my taste, but this time it was right on the money.“

“The food is delicious! Prices are high! Waitress and hostess are very rude, they even stand in the kitchen and talk about you. Ambiance is nice. They don't listen to your order and something is usually incorrect whether it be food or drinks. They try not to smile? Customers are a bother.“

“I make it a priority to go to La Simpatia whenever I'm in town. The tamales are awesome, the beans are the best anywhere and the tacos are the same as I've been eating my whole life. This is the best authentic Mexican food. Can't wait to go back next time I visit.“

“The last time I was here, it was called Connie's Restaurant. Right at the start finding the service is really great here, the server gave us advice on what to buy. Then we had another young lady come up to us and greet us just with pleasantries and wished me a happy birthday and when leaving again thanked and wished me a happy birthday. I got to say the menudo is probably the best menudo in town. I use to frown on too much meat and not enough hominy and not as good as my sister's menudo, and I've tried most of the Mexican restaurants here in town and gave up and now just buy a can of Juanita's Menudo and a can of pato sauce. I was first skeptical because this menudo didn't come with hominy, but after putting g in the onions, cilantro and lemon I can again say this is the best menudo in town. The meat was tender and onions sweet. This is where I'm getting my menudo in the future, I may have to buy a can of hominy if they don't include it. There was 5 of us and we couldn't finish the Plato Mexicano, we needed 3 take out containers. If you haven't been here you need to check it out.“
“Corona has it going on for unique takes on tacos, and El Rey is worth seeking out. In a recessed mini plaza off 6th Street in the old town, my recommendation is to go before the lunch rush. I dined in both times I visited, and the quality of the food and sides is amazing. Grilled cactus and onions, salsa choices ranging from medium to quite hot, and a wide range of side veggies. It's definitely a popular place, and the steady flow of people is testimony to their quality. They were grilling a bunch of chicken the first time, and it got smoky inside until someone opened a door. My house special burrito had both carne asada and al pastor inside, and everything was perfectly cooked and assembled. I blended two salsas and loved it all. My second visit a week later was equally enjoyable and slightly more expansive. I'd like to try something from the mariscos menu in the future. Until then, go here and try a new take on old favorites.“

“When I go out for Mexican food I drive 15 minutes out of town to Nardos. The food is homemade and home style. The food is like visiting your grandmothers kitchen, clean, cozy and the food prepared with care. We ordered Albóndiga soup and Machaca breakfast with fresh handmade corn tortillas. The owner and her staff prepare everything with attention to detail. I always enjoy my fresh homestyle meals at Nardos. February 13, 2024“

Numerous guest said these were the best tacos they ever had! I am very pleased with their service and highly recommend them. The price was excellent, too- lower than other comparable taco caterers.“

“This is one of the best places I've found on the Central Coast! I keep coming back again and again. First off, if you are into spicy at all, they have, what is most likely, the best salsa I've ever had! It's the perfect balance of spicy and wonderful flavor.. Everyone I've come across who works there is very nice and accommodating. Their food, particularly the BBQ, is unbelievable. If you enjoy brisket (1lb seen in photo), theirs is one of the best I've found in the state! Their smoked tri-tip burrito is wonderful. They also have a few Mexican dishes, like the chili verde enchiladas which are fantastic. You really can't go wrong with whatever you choose...Kid-friendliness: Spoil your kids with this food!“
