Even during a brief pause at a stop light when there's a chance to look around, it's highly probable that you'll still miss it. There's no signage on the building itself, so look for the wine barrels sitting on the sidewalk as your clue, or perhaps you'll spot their small sandwich board just outside their front door. Find parking somewhere near 10368 San Pablo Avenue, the address to Banter, a wine bar with a warm atmosphere, welcoming decor, and communal tables. Offering a curated selection of old and new world wines, Banter focuses on small producers who prioritize minimal intervention from vineyard to bottle. On location, you can purchase a bottle from the shelves to enjoy at home or savor a glass (or bottle) in-house. If you need something to eat while you're there, choose from various delicious snacks including cheese, charcuterie, and other tasty treats. With a partial kitchen, Banter partners with local talent and the community to create new opportunities by featuring "pop-ups" - temporary restaurants that allow chefs and restaurateurs to try out a new neighborhood, experiment with their menu, generate a following, or just get some great experience for their staff. During my most recent visit, I got a front-row seat at the bar to witness Chef Emmanual from the restaurant Bolita work his magic with fresh masa, a must-have ingredient at the center of all his signature dishes. Most notable was the Tamal de Calabaza which featured squash masa, mole negro tamal, roasted kabocha, and cashew crema. A nice compliment was the Papas Rositazadas, simple roasted potatoes with black garlic aioli. Both were deliciously elevated and beautifully plated for such a casual environment. “Live Band Karaoke with THE LOST WEEkENDs was exceptionally fun! The band are VERY talented musicians and they work hard to give each 'guest' singer a good experience.The crowd at the IVY ROOM was very supportive (and forgiving!) and the staff was enthusiastic,and charming as usual.Aside from the live band part, it differed from regular karaoke in that the lyrics you are reading do not alert you to a starting point where you should start singing. They ARE on anIpad, but it's pretty much just the same as holding a piece of paper with lyrics printed on it. I suggest going to the band's website, finding the link to their list of Karaoke covers and practicing a little with a YouTube karaoke video of that song beforehand-if you don't know the song you want to perform really well already.I can't wait to go back, I hope the LosT WeeKends return to The Ivy Room soon !“

“I enjoy Boathouse and the small town vibes it gives. There is a chill atmosphere, they have good drinks and attentive bartenders (Janet + Christian). The only downside is that I don't enjoy when there is that guitar guy there randomly strumming songs in the background. They turn all of the music off and it makes it low key uncomfortable and really puts the vibe in an odd place. The guitar guy doesn't sing, he doesn't play entire songs and he doesn't even play songs that are fun/exciting/good bar vibes. This is an entirely too huge downfall because atmosphere and music in a bar play an insurmountable part in the success and continuity of business. I actually left when the man started playing his guitar again because it was honestly really odd and just put the whole mood. I will definitely return and I sincerely hope that I don't accidentally come on another night where this random man is playing his guitar at random parts of the night. I would literally walk out again if that happened haha. No hate to guitar man it's just weird that they shut off the entire bar music to let this dude strum his guitar in background. Lastly, you should definitely consider coming to Jack's if you're feeling hungry! (They serve breakfast until 2:00pm and lunch all day.) It's not overbearing, but definitely not something you can overlook. I'd call it cute and whimsical, and I appreciate that the art on the walls was bought from small artists on Etsy. It vaguely reminds me of the vibe on Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Like, a little homemade and dated but done with love and extreme attention to detail. On weekends they have live music, often jazz, and it's been good stuff every time I came here. The staff is all great. Owners are often on-site. Within 5 more minutes, I called her back over, introduced myself, and told her that I'd just moved here and that this was going to be my new spot. They knew my name and what I drank in the first two weeks. I consider them all friends now, and when I move to Lake Merritt next week, it's this bar and it's staff I will miss most about Alameda. There was a cat sign, but Jamie W. and I kept missing it as we strolled back and forth just before it opened at 4PM. We came for the craft cocktails we saw on their website, and Keenan was the cool bartender who was there to make them for us. I tried the $14 Dear Irene, a blended Pina Colada riff with gin, coconut, ginger, mint, cane, and lime. A lovely libation. Jamie had the $14 Blue Meanie which had a more tantalizing tropical taste.
