Navarro Vineyards & Winery Wineries • $$

“My FIL raved about this place so much and the men of the family went there for a while before us women showed up and then I found out that they had "non-alcoholic" wine (grape juice in a wine bottle) and that made more sense to me since he isn't a huge drinker LOL. With that, it was perfect for the whole gang to come and sip and talk. My little was enjoying the outside and there are windows all over the place so I can keep an eye on him even though he was with the other family members, and inside they gave us all the tastings with the backgrounds and of the wine and how they came to be. We had so much fun, the people were so nice and wound up with a box full to go!“

Greenwood Ridge Vineyards Winery •
5501 CA-128, Philo

“Stopped to charge the car at their free charging station with no expectation and was blown away! It is rare I leave a wine tasting having liked every single offering. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, going as far as seeking out their managers to answer some trickier questions I threw their way, all of which were answered thoroughly and explained incredibly succinctly. A very cosy atmosphère with delicious wines and brandy. I look forward to coming back and to visiting their sister operations around California.“

Maggy Hawk Wines Tasting Room Wineries •

“The winery is exquisite. Gorgeous patio and experience. Our server was terrific. Very friendly, knowledgeable and shared all wines in the portfolio. Wine was OK. Didn’t match with my flavor profile, but I can see how they will continue to be a player in the small production Anderson Valley Pinot world.“

Goldeneye Wineries • $$$
9200 CA-128, Philo

“Most know Goldeneye, whether it be from your local grocery store, wine shop, or just plain word of mouth. I was excited to finally visit the actual facility where they serve some wine that is a bit harder to find elsewhere or only distributed to their club members. The property is located in the beautiful Anderson Valley with stunning views from their back patio. As for the inside of the tasting room, I'd say it's pretty standard, but that is completely fine by me as I am there for the vino! Tasting format is heavily geared towards Pinot Noir as the valley is well know for it based on it's cool climate. All of the wines were superb, there was not one I did not like to be honest! Being out of the usual tourist stricken wine regions nearby offers a more affordable price point, but there are some higher price items on their menu, but well worth it. I'd happily recommend this winery to anyone looking for a spot in Anderson Valley!“

Scharffenberger Cellars Wineries • $$

“We were looking for a place to feed our baby on the way home from a trip and Gowan’s Cider was sadly closed, probably because of the Super Bowl. We checked out the gorgeous property of Scharffenberger instead and I would’ve been happy to feed the baby in the parking lot, but my husband asked the one remaining employee and even though they were trying to close up early for the game, they very generously invited us to come in. We each had one glass of delicious bubbly in the VIP lounge, which they’re currently using until the tasting room reopens later this spring, and enjoyed learning about the winery and the area from the very kind and knowledgeable employee. Such a great way to round out our trip, we’re grateful to have found this port in the football-storm!“

Handley Cellars Winery •
3151 CA-128, Philo

“My friend and I chose to go to this winery because we were looking for dog friendly wineries in the area. This was listed as dog friendly, and the photos of the tasting room area looked visually pleasing, so we decided to check it out. It wasn't too busy at all when we went on a Sunday afternoon. Derek was our wine attendant and was very knowledgeable and friendly. He made us feel very welcomed there. Great dude, give him a raise for us.The winery is full of cute and niche decor that the owners collected from all over the world. It felt very down to earth. We loved how tranquil the patio was, plenty of shade, lots of beautiful statues, and lovely scenery overlooking the vineyards. If we're ever in the area again, we'll be back.“

“We have eaten here before and it was good. We came again for Easter dinner and, oh my goodness! There has been a staff change in the kitchen and it was a change for the better. Everything was so delicious and creative! We started with a quartet of deviled eggs that I thought was an interesting and cheeky nod to the holiday. Each one was different and beautiful. There was smoked salmon, caviar and I'm not sure what was on the other two but, they were delicious. We also had the Papas Bravas, and a stuffed artichoke that was so scrumptious I didn't want to share but, I did. For our main my husband and me both ordered the lamb shank. Mmmmmmmmmm! I arrived looking beautiful. I gave the shank bone a little tug and I slipped out with no resistance leaving the lamb retaining its shape. That's a good sign! The meat was soft and juicy. The potatoes underneath were velvety. The whole dish was so comforting and tasty. This was our favorite visit to Wickson. The whole place is run by women now and has such a joyful vibe. I think it makes for such a great experience when the kitchen and staff are happy. We felt so welcome and the food tasted like it was made by happy people who love what they do! The only thing that could make this visit to Wickson better was to get a room. Luckily we did! Thank you The Madrones and Wickson! We'll see you again soon!“

Roederer Estate Winery • $$
4501 CA-128, Philo

“Roederer Estate is one of the three major sparkling wine producers (Scharffenberger and Domaine Anderson being the others) in the Anderson Valley that are owned by the champagne house, Maison Louis Roederer, the producer of Cristal among other things. In my opinion, they produce the best wines of the three, so we stopped by at 11 AM without a reservation for a mid-week tasting. We were the only ones for the hour or so that we were there. The tasting room is currently being renovated, so we sat outside on the patio that overlooked the vineyards. They offered two tastings:Classic Flight for $25Brut MVBrut MV from a magnumBrut Rosé MV2020 Clark Road Single VineyardExtra DryL’Ermitage Flight for $45Brut MVBrut Rosé from a magnum2017 L’Ermitage Brut2006 L’Ermitage Brut Late Disgorged2015 L’Ermitage Brut RoséThey requested that everyone in the party drink the same flight, so we went with the L’Ermitage Flight. It was more expensive, but it was worth it just to try the three wonderful L’Ermitage wines. To be fair, older vintage champagnes (2006) might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was fascinating to taste the effect of aging - think caramel and brioche notes as opposed to fresh fruits. It was getting close to lunch, so we also ordered the eggs mimosa and the lavender honey and goat cheese crostini. Both were delicious and paired very well with the wines.Afterwards, you have the opportunity to not only buy a wide range of library wines from the Roederer Estate, but also from Maison Louis Roederer including several older vintages of Cristal at pretty reasonable prices. We opted to go with the 2006 L’Ermitage LD Brut ($120) and the 2003 L’Ermitage Brut Rosé ($140) because I doubt that we will come across these wines anywhere else.If you enjoy sparkling wines, this might be an excellent stop as you make your way through the Anderson Valley. It will probably be even better when the new tasting room opens too.One last recommendation - go to the bathroom. Really. In order to get to the bathroom, you get to see the wine storage area, the fermentation barrels/tanks, etc. Pretty cool to see.“

Anderson Valley Brewing Co Brewery • $$
17700 Boonville Rd, Boonville - 6.54 miles

“I came two times last year to this brewery. I had so much fun the first time with family, that on my next trip up, I knew I had to bring my friend as well. The place is huge, plenty of parking, plenty of space for everyone, kids, dogs, food trucks, bands, dancing. They have great beer on tap, the people are locals and super chill to visitors from out of town and we just had a blast both times. We played games and hanged out inside and outside and walked around, they have so much to do and it's so laid back at the same time. I wish I lived closer, I would be here a lot.“

Seebass Family Wines Tasting Room Winery • $$
14077 CA-128, Boonville - 5.69 miles

“We have been coming to this lovely comfortable establishment for more than five years. It has become a traditional stop on our aerial trips to Boonville airport. Both Michelle and Scott are always accommodating and friendly hosts, walking us through their family history and estate grown wine selection. They produce small lots only available at the winery. My favorites include (although I've never been a Chardonnay enthusiast) Chardonnay, Mysteriös and Reserve Syrah. Scott is also a private pilot like my husband and entertains us with his stories of flying throughout the West. In addition to Wine, Seebass also features coffee, chocolates and other goodies, depending on the season. During our last visit this past weekend they paired the Wine with a homemade mushroom bisque, which was delicious. Visiting this winery makes you feel like you are a part of their family. Scott even closed the shop down to drive us back to the airport on a very hot day. I highly recommend making this your destination and no need to go to the Mendocino Coast.“
