There's also a little general store to grab some snacks, beverages and use the restroom. You come to Alice's for the vibes, not necessarily the food.“

“Wow, this place is a gem! Operated by Sandy, a sweet Korean woman, who makes her own kimchee. Each burrito (I had the breakfast burrito with pork and kimchee) is hand made on a skillet. All the products are cooked. This is fantastic home cooking and super affordably priced. (Note: Cookies are not made at home)“

“Joanie’s is a staple on California Ave, having been around for more than two decades. After many years, I decided to revisit the place recently.

Some things have changed but the place has mostly stayed the same as I remember it. With good service, decent food options, and lovely atmosphere, Joanie’s is a solid choice.

In the past, service has been a mixed bag. When we went recently it was mostly solid. There were quite a few instances where it took a lot of effort on our part to get a hold of a waiter but when we did, they were friendly, efficient, and got the job done.

The atmosphere, just like most of California Avenue, is more laid back, quiet, and communal. The lovely dining options outside, coupled with the beautiful weather, made the meal more pleasant.

The food itself is solid but nothing exceptional or mind blowing. While many restaurants have evolved over the years, it seems like Joanie’s in many ways is stuck in the past. While their French toast was yummy, their potato options (both the hash brown and potatoes) were just ok and a bit flavorless. The eggs were cooked exactly as requested but the beef hash left a bit to be desired. It seems like while others are innovating, here time has stopped.

Overall, Joanie’s is a classic that’s sticking to their roots while many places are evolving to better serve their customers. What may have been ok 20 years ago doesn’t necessarily make it good enough in today’s competitive landscape. The most I can rate Joanie’s Cafe is 4 stars.“

“I had to stop by Royal Donut Cafe because of all of the great reviews I saw on Yelp! And I must say that I wasn't disappointed at all! The staff was awesome! From the cashier, to the cooks, and the server. And I even got a chance to meet the owner, Terri, who has taken over the business for the past 15 years! Definitely going to be a regular here! “FC resident, haven't been to this location in a loooong time. Our last visit pre-pandemic was not great, so we haven't been back. My wife was jonesing pancakes, so we decided to go. Surprisingly, the food was good, although it was served in substantially smaller portions than what all restaurant portions used to be like. However, service was outstanding from all team members. I recognized the manager and asked him how long he has been there, and he said over 20 years! He had other employees there longer than him. Bottom line: great service, food was good and a fair value. Recommendation - improve the quality of coffee, which tasted like flavored water.“

“This is one of my favorite places for breakfast and brunch. I've been a regular for years, and the service and food have consistently been good. They recently added a few Mexican dishes to their menu, such as chilaquiles, which are a solid choice. Their benedicts, smoothies and bagels are also really good.

However, their pancakes are THE BEST! No matter what I order, I always have to try them. They are simply delicious with a very particular flavor.“

“Food - great but little pricey for the qty received. For example - 2 mid size pancakes are for around 15$ , I would suggest it should be around 10 to 11$. Although maple syrup is on the table, they charge additional $, so not sure what's the difference between the one on table vs what they get from inside.
