“Excellent food all seasoned and cooked to perfection. Black cod, cioppino, ribeye, crab cakes, and scallop risotto is what the table had. Excellent wine selection, great desserts and drinks. Minus one star because the cushions on the chairs at our table were too soft and sunk you too far below the table for good comfort.“

A dear friend insisted I try the pineapple coconut cakes, ordering four and telling me “you will see.” That level of confidence immediately raised my curiosity and it absolutely delivered.

From the moment I walked in, the staff set the tone. They were kind, informative, patient, and genuinely welcoming. That level of service matters, and they got it right.

I initially ordered four plates and appreciated the menu variety, especially seeing whole chicken wings offered. But the real moment came when I sampled the shrimp in my car. It was outstanding. Perfectly seasoned, flavorful, and memorable.

I turned right back around and ordered an additional plate with catfish and shrimp, and that sealed it for me. The shrimp are 🔥🔥🔥!

“I am writing this review with great happiness because the service I received was beyond my expectations. I have known about this restaurant for a long time, but yesterday was my first time visiting, and I had a wonderful experience.

The food was very good, and the taste was excellent. We asked them to prepare the meat in a specific way, and they made it exactly as we requested. Their service was outstanding, especially Mr. Joe. He was very kind, respectful, and professional. He listened carefully to our instructions and made sure everything was served just the way we wanted.

I truly appreciate the great service and hospitality. Overall, the restaurant, the staff, and the food were all excellent. I would definitely recommend this place to others.“

“First time here after reading the rave reviews. I ordered the lunch special to go - it didn't feel like I saved any money but the meal was great. It's available on weekdays only from 12pm to 2pm. They have their own little parking lot and entrance is inside once you turn in from the main street.

Cajun Shrimp Rice Plate Lunch Special ($13.95 + $3.00 for fried rice) - Very well balanced meal! The egg roll and fried was a big plus. They are generous with their shrimp and the sauce is delicious. Would go back to try everything else.“

“My experience at D.Monaghans on the hill was very good I must say! The brunch we had for mother's day was great!!! Oh my plate I had an omelette that you can build your own omelette menu I put all vegetables in my omelette with a side of turkey sausage any black cup of coffee also I had a bowl of shrimp and grits they were delicious so don't sleep on this place. Also my family enjoyed the food as much as I did even my grandson couldn't stop eating the great food. The dinner menu have a vast amount of great meals on it and there a great bar with good drinks and IPA!!!“

“My friends favorite place, we shared general chicken, beef and chicken Fried rice, dumplings, skinny noodles chow main. The dumplings were okay, a lot of meat. General chicken was Crispy and little spicy, it is sweet. The chowmein with skinny noodle was little dry, picked the thicker noodle of you want to ordered chowmein. Fried rice was huge and they like us do a combo chicken and pork. In general, I like the food with the chili oil. The service was good.“

“We stopped in got some Fish & Chips (cat fish) and Onion rings and soda.As a very picky Aussie who loves good Fish & Chips most stores here in the US I’d score at a 6/10 but this little hole in the wall shop it’s easy an 8/10 the chips where good size the fish was average size for all the US stores I’ve tried but this little store the batter was crispy and the fish cooked perfectly the onion rings where good the Chips where very good but I feel a few extra minutes in the oil would have made them a perfect Crispy outer and hot and fluffy“

“Went on a rainy Saturday and there was several spaces of parking in the lot adjacent to restaurant. Upon entering, the interior and layout feels a bit hodgepodge with the cashier in the center of the restaurant. The lady who took my order was friendly and verified my order along with the total price before I paid. I ordered Menudo and Lengua Burrito. The Menudo had the option of containing pata/feet. The broth was absolutely perfect and very typical of Tijuana style Menudo. It did not come with hominy sadly, and I suppose with the highest price I've ever paid for a bowl, I might have reconsidered my order. The tripe in the Menudo was just slightly more soft than I prefer but objectively, this was the bowl of flavorful Menudo that my cravings desired. The Lengua (beef tongue) burrito was huge! That said there was more rice than beans in the burrito and I wouldn't be mad if it had more beans instead. The lengua was cooked perfectly and was seasoned well. I can't believe I'm saying this but in a tongue burrito, I think less cheese works the best. Corn tortillas included in my order and salsas were delicious. Overall, I enjoyed the food. I'd come back to try another item for sure.“

“What a gem of a place. I always, always pass by here to go to Thanh Ky on the corner and always wondered. I wondered whether this tiny Vietnamese place in Oakland would live up to the hype of Vietnamese cuisine in San Jose, and I’m so glad to report that it did.

They have a huge menu, lots of noodles soups, rice, different apps that represent all across the Vietnam region (all parts, northern, southern etc)

I ordered the Banh Xeo and the Bun Rieu, really good, solid as heck. Prices are reasonable, and will definitely be coming back.“

“Dropped in for some pho and really enjoyed the meal. The service was really great and friendly. Pho- quite delicious. I liked the quality of the goods, the mint and thai basil leaves were very impressive, so fresh and HUGE and tasted great. This place also served their bowls with limes which is funny because I've seen it becoming rarer, where lemons are being substituted and I'm the former so I appreciated that. The cuts of meat were these nice long strips, high quality.

I also got a banh xeo and that things was awesome. Whoever cooked it did so perfectly... nice crunch on the rim, juicy interior. The batter has coconut milk, so each bite is so flavorful. This was my favorite dish. Again, high quality meats and veggies, and huge! Good stuff. Also their coffee has a great condescended milk to coffee ratio, super sweet and rich yum“

“I dont like to give small businesses a hard time, the food was amazing the only issue i have is the consistency of their hot and hour soup, ITS EXTREMELY THICK, I've been to house of dumplings and hong Kong city restaurant in the area, this is thr first time encountering soup being served like this. “Atmosphere is not why you go here. It is truly a hole in the wall. If you can get over that, the fish is fried to perfection, not oily and the oil is fresh. The sole I ordered was nice and crispy and not overcooked even though dole is thin. The main problem with it though, I thought it didn't need to be as salty as it is. I don't know if they can adjust the salt level for you or not but it would be perfect if they could.“

“A great place for a crab/seafood boil with a paper tabletop, plastic bibs, and plastic gloves included. The seafood came in big plastic bags swimming in a steamy mix of sauce and spices. They were placed on the table and we all just dug in to our heart's content.

Note that there are other items on the menu including things like fried shrimp and french fries and other fried seafood.

The restaurant itself is no-frills with simple tables and chairs in the main room. You go for the food not to be seen.

If you like seafood boils it's a fun experience with the great seafood.“
