“10/10 – Hidden Gem with the Best Ribeye in Town! I’d been hearing rave reviews about the steak at China Cuisine, so I finally decided to check it out with my date. From the moment we walked in, the owner greeted us warmly and told us to sit anywhere – super welcoming and friendly right off the bat. The place has that classic Chinese restaurant vibe: nothing overly fancy, but cozy with an old-school diner feel that makes it comfortable and nostalgic. I mentioned I was there for the famous steak, and the owner recommended the ribeye without hesitation. I went with that, and had my date order one of the Chinese combination plates (can’t remember the exact name, but it was a solid mix of favorites). The food absolutely lived up to the hype – the ribeye was perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful, and the combination plate was spot-on delicious. Portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh. But what really stood out was the hospitality; the owner was fantastic to chat with, making the whole experience feel personal and fun. Overall, an easy 10 out of 10 for me. China Cuisine is a must-try if you’re in Shafter – great food, awesome service, and that ribeye alone is worth the visit. We’ll definitely be back soon!”

“Driving home from a vacation stay in SECal, my partner and I wanted a nice, homey Italian dinner and found Giovanni's after a quick online search. This place is truly a HIDDEN GEM in the heart of farm country.

We had to order the popular stuffed mushrooms, and they were delicious. My honey had the grilled chicken fettuccini Alfredo, and it was tasty as any she has ever had. I ordered the lasagna, and it was the most satisfying lasagna I have had since I left home in NYC thirty years ago.

The service was nothing short of perfect as we walked in on a Saturday, some 20 minutes before closing, to an entirely empty dining room. We weren't expecting much on service, considering the circumstances, but we were warmly welcomed and graciously served by a truly special couple (we assume they are the owners).

The atmosphere is definitely old school Italian eatery.....just think 1990 in the Bronx. It was clean and well kept, and made me smile as soon as I walked in. It was familiar in the most positive way.

Are we going to be passing by Shafter in the near future? That is doubtful. But, if we are within a 60 minute drive of Giovanni's, we are sure making it a point to stop again.”

“It's a nice market in the middle of a very quiet and clean town. I was visiting and was able to find a variety of items. Not too expensive, very good sales on most items. Including meat. I love how they prepared it for you and it's delicious.”

I had a huge taco salad and the combo pizza was one of the best pizza's I have had in a long time. The sausage on the pizza was so good it was hard for us to NOT pick through the pizza, ha! Happy to support the restaurant of a retired Kern County firefighter”

“I came in for a reeses milkshake and some burgers after picking up my daughter from school. Was not expecting the BEST customer service because it seemed busy but the young lady with red hair was extremely helpful and told me she made my milkshake with extra care. and when i tasted it i could tell she cared. will be coming back and hoping she gets employee of the month or a raise. she was very sweet to my daughter and patient with her outburst.”
