“Walked in on Wednesday around noon and it was not busy. Our servers did great at attending us (in training servers) quickly and bringing out food promptly. Probably took 20 minutes for us to receive our food. We ordered the tonkotsu ramen with mild spice. There was no spice at all which so I would go up a level if you wanted it a little bit spicy. We also got the chicken fried rice which was very good. It was big enough to share between two people. the ramen was also shareable between two people. It was approximately $28 for two meals & one soft drink without tip. They give out free dessert mochi per person after order which was nice. They also have vegetarian options! The atmosphere was great. They had anime playing on the tv and they also had manga in English to read! Parking was easy and there was a lot of open spots.“

“Almost want to keep this place a secret for myself! Came in for Sunday Brunch and was thrilled. The brunch menu was delicious and fresh. I had bowl of Pizole, Chili Relleno, Birria, and too many tacos!! So good!
Tortillas, ceviche and tostadas were so fresh... maybe made on site? If not I want to know where to buy them. Haha.

Always worth any wait but usually the wait is not unreasonable but usually no wait really at all. They take a vacation once a year for a couple a weeks and signage is posted. “After my husband and I picked up orders from Yoshinoya, we noticed a restaurant across the Beach Boulevard advertising takeout deals: two Teriyaki Chicken Bowls for $13, two California Rolls for $9.50, and a buy-one-get-one-50%-off deal on any rolls. So we decided to swing by and grab some Teriyaki Chicken Bowls to go a week later.

When we walked in, there was an Asian auntie and a young staff behind the counter. As we ordered, we got to chatting, and the auntie told us that she used to own a restaurant in Buena Park for 18 years before moving to Stanton in this location 7 years ago. (She might be the owner but I’m not 100% sure) She proudly assured us that everything the restaurant served is fresh and delicious. Just by looking at the neatly arranged ingredients at the sushi bar section, I could already tell this place is good.

We ordered the takeout special: two Teriyaki Chicken Bowls for $13. It was such a great deal, and they were indeed very delicious. The chicken was tender, and the sauce had a refreshing hint of lemon. The bowls came with two slices of carrot, cabbage, and broccoli, along with a perfectly portioned amount of rice. Just as the auntie guaranteed , it was tasty and worth every penny. (If you dine in, there’s no discount. These deals are only for takeout.)

The menu offers a lot of variety. The lunch specials (11:00 AM - 3:00 PM) seem like a steal. Here are some combos it offers as follows and we’ll definitely be back to try more.

“I'm so used to getting rice that is room temperature at best. So I ordered the chicken shawarma rice bowl, and the first thing I notice is the rice is warm . . . like really warm. I also have a fear of really hot spicy food because it makes me sick. No problem here - the chicken was so delicious, and not "hot" spicy at all. Just a really great flavor. My friend ordered the same, and her reaction was the same. Great flavor, so tasty! The service was great too! But the very best part was the size of the serving - it was such a generous serving, I had to ask for a to-go container, and enjoyed it again later that day. The restaurant was light, bright and clean. I totally recommend this restaurant.“

“Will give 5* because the waitress was so nice which is extremely hard to find with Vietnamese restaurants.

Pho broth is good but I found the noodles to be a bit overdone. Would like them a bit more al dente. The “steak” is also a bit tough and I wish they wouldn’t bury it all on the bottom so it gets all cooked instead of being rare as advertised.

The inside is also HOT with no formal AC.

“My parents, who love loach stew, always stop by and eat it when they come to Calico. My parents admit that it is a restaurant that is thicker and better than most loach stew restaurants in Korea. They used to serve fresh chips with your order,but time and inflation changes things. The only other tidbit I wish they could improve on are the hours. They're only open to 5 during the week and 2 on weekends. They still make tamales thousand their delicioso!
