Another classic example of Googie style diners (like Johnie's and Norms), this Mel's location originally opened as Ben & Frank's in 1962 and had an A list rock star clientele. Of course today it is one of the best and last examples of authentic mid-century diner experience, with a perfect menu and lots of homage to George Lucas and American Graffiti. A true classic helping to keep vintage Sunset Strip alive and well.
My friends and I ate here after the club one night while in LA on vacation and unfortunately I was too intoxicated to eat BUT I remember trying to eat and those chicken tenders were top notch and it was so good and I’ve never wanted to sober up and finish a meal so desperately? our server was so sweet (from what i remember) but let me say that I was so disappointed we didn’t have the chance to go back before leaving being it was our last night. It would be a 4 star review if it wasn’t for the Avocado Toast. This was the star of the show and made a huge difference.The place is spacious, parking is free and the food was good — only the avocado toast was exceptional.Service table was really good, but desk person during payment was a bit rude.
