“Although I don’t exactly love dirty hippies, I absolutely love Pappy & Harriet’s!
As a local, I’ve been coming here for more than 30 years, and I’ve had the privilege of seeing countless incredible artists perform. We are extremely fortunate to have such an iconic live music venue in the desert.
The place is historic, a little rough around the edges, and exactly what you’d expect from a classic desert roadhouse. That’s part of its charm. That said, the management can sometimes come across as elitist, and operations aren’t always the most organized.
The bar always has a great atmosphere, and the barbecue is consistently delicious. If you only order one thing, make it the brisket. The sides are tasty as well, although the portions are on the small side.
If you’re attending a concert and planning to eat dinner, arrive at least a couple of hours before the show. I’ve shown up around 8:00 p.m. on more than one occasion only to be told they were no longer taking dinner orders—even though the kitchen doesn’t officially close until 9:30 p.m. Come on, people…it’s barbecue!
The good news is that over the past few years several restaurants and bars have opened just behind Pappy & Harriet’s along Mane Street. So if Pappy’s can’t feed you, simply walk down to the Red Dog Saloon (or one of the other nearby spots) and grab a bite before the music starts.
Despite its occasional frustrations, Pappy & Harriet’s remains one of my favorite venues anywhere. If you appreciate great live music, cold drinks, delicious California BBQ and authentic desert character, it’s a must-visit.“

“Finally made it happen and had the most delicious organic lunch here, for the first time. Wonderfully eclectic & interesting crowd of diners. We had a table for 2 people and a dog within about 10 minutes on a Saturday. The service so friendly and helpful, we were offered drinks while we waited. A welcoming environment & great energy. Nice people, the owner herself and all who work there. Wonderful & cozy chic seating outside. Lots of well mannered dogs making the ambiance even that much more pleasing. This place has very talented & creative chefs. The staff is welcoming and friendly. Great service throughout meal. My hubby had the steak with grilled peppers while I had the most delicious Salmon Salad which was prepared with love & each ingredient such excellent quality. I think we were told our beef came from free range organic farm in Australia. The water they serve is from a local aquaphore and tastes excellent. If I remember correctly our desert was toasted parents with raspberries & a glaze that was uniquely tasty. We will definitely be back to this gem.“
