“Thank you, Susan K. for the detailed, well researched review that finally got me to El Cisne! This bakery / cafe is so charming and, especially when you catch one of the many, many varieties of filled / topped bread rolls emerging fresh from the oven, quite delicious. Most of the breads in the case are made with something similar to brioche -- slightly sweet with a brioche-like rise -- and filled with an astonishing variety of fillings: Bavarian cream; ham and cheese; pineapple, ham and cheese; chocolate; and strawberry jam..... and that covers only about a quarter of the varieties on offer, probably! There was also a fabulous cheese-topped flat bread, soft, probably not leavened (possibly llapingachos?); semicircular, bready "empanada" rolls with various fillings -- baked, not fried; and a denser pan de yuca with cheese in the center. The cheese used in all of these breads was white, salty, and crumbled into small grains -- queso fresco or queso Ecuatoriano perhaps? If I am perfectly honest, I wasn't head-over-heels in love with the room temperature brioche-like rolls from the case, even after re-toasting at home. They're enjoyable, similar to what you might find sold as brioche or challah in the bakery section of a grocery chain -- but probably not baked day-of. On the other hand, a fresh-out-of-the-oven-hot roll filled with pineapple (in the form of a lovely more-sour-than-sweet goop), cheese, and ham (SPAM-like in consistency) was quite fetching, the outside flakey and crisp like a good croissant, the innards scalding hot when we made the first attempt to eat it in the car on the way home. I am not sure whether it was made with the same kind of brioche-y bread as the others or not... could the textural differences between a fresh-out-of-the-oven product and a room temperature one could be so profound? Clearly, this one needs additional taste testing! The pan de yuca was the star of the show for me, with a wonderfully light, yet substantial texture, possibly incorporating fresh, mashed yuca and not just yuca / cassava flour. (I found a tiny bit of yucca fiber in my roll much to my excitement!) It is similar to pao de queijo, which is made with tapioca flour, the starchy derivative of cassava, but without the more mochi-like chew that I associate with pao de queijo. I love that everything is so clearly house made al El Cisne, and when fresh products roll out of the kitchen. I'm not much of a sweets person, but those glossy cakes in the display look like they're worth a try. Not sure if we'll be able to wait until the next birthday for those.... :) Great tip, Susan K.! I'm so glad to add this place to our repertoire.“
“Best gluten free rolls you’ll ever find. These are served in some of the better restaurants around Litchfield country, they are absolutely delicious. They lap have a wide veriety of gf items like waffles, pizza etc. The store front is mostly just a walk in area it’s really just for take out, don’t expect a restaurant. Stock up on outstanding GF breads!“
“I’m a regular here and the staff is wonderful. Please be patient, as they are understaffed. The quality of their food is too-notch. And, at least by local standards, their sandwiches are reasonably-priced. I offen grab a to-go sandwich and eat it quietly on a rock along the nearby Shepaug River. Thank you, everybody at The Pantry!“
“I arranged for 2 dozen cupcakes to be delivered to my husband at work on his birthday, as I knew I would be out of town. He texted me, "These are f*cking great!" I'm not sure if there is more to say, really. (his colleagues shared the same sentiments :-) Fabulous cupcakes and so easy to work with.......bravo, Curvy's! We are definitely fans!“
“I just had the best chicken pot pie ever. I purchased it at Sapowski Farm store in Granby, MA. I am going to look into if the pies are sold anywhere else because Sapowski’s is closed for the season. Again the best chicken pot pie ever!“
“We attended my Aunty Barbara Westlake's funeral. We had one of your Westlake special cakes at the celebration. It's going to be on my list of all-time favorite cakes! Thank you so much for being a part of our celebration of life for my Aunty. Mary Ellen is my cousin's wife ... So she is my cousin too ?“
“Amazing! The customer service was exceptional and I was treated very kindly. The staff was very friendly and I got my food very quickly. The food was very good and filling, exactly what I wanted. Would definitely recommend, will be back again!“
“Came here on the way to the Hidden Valley Preserve and we are so glad we did! We absolutely LOVED the full Monte. Its actually addicting, i must get another hahahaMy mom loved her grilled ham egg and cheese. The pop tart and sookie cookie were such a pleasant surprise too! It tasted like a brownie, so so good. We plan to definitely be back again for all of it!Everyone was also very nice and friendly, even when the place was pretty full!“
“This establishment is a staple of the town of Bridgewater and for good reason. Aside from the historical significance of the building itself, the food is always delicious, pricing fair, staff genuinely friendly, and atmosphere welcoming. We always feel like we are visiting family when we are here.During warmer weather, there are several tables out front for a nice view of the Town’s main thoroughfare. They stock a generous variety of the mouthwatering Bridgewater Chocolates (of course!), and their store has some light food, treats, and odds & ends. There is also an area with home goods and gifts - all really nice quality.I highly recommend Bridgewater Village Store & Bistro for a tasty meal, or as a spot to stock up on some food and drinks for a road trip or drive around town.“
“Cystle was a dream! I am so glad I stumbled across her Facebook page and reached out to her! She was so lovely to work with and made my wedding cake and cupcakes exactly as I pictured them! Meeting Crystle and trying the flavors of cupcakes I knew she was an expert and I had to have her for my wedding! I asked for a naked look carrot cake for my wedding cake and she did exactly that, she also then made 8 different flavors of cupcakes. They were a hit and my husband and I only had a handful of cupcakes left to take home by the end of the night. Not only did they all look amazing but they tasted exactly as described! If anyone needs a cake/cupcakes I 10/10 recommend going to Sugar Crystles!“
