“I have been waiting to get into this place forever, finally got lucky. The chicken yakiyori was good, but the star of the show was the hotpot. Normally it includes pig intestines, but we added chicken thighs as not everyone ate intestines, more for me 😎 we were very full and happy.“

“We enjoyed our first visit so much, we came back just two days later for an encore. Over the two meals, we sampled at least ten dishes. Phenomenol creativity, presentation and flavor, one after the other. I will have a hard time identifying a favorite but let’s go with Yuzu Chicken and Beef Loco Moco. The seafood was just as wonderful. It’s not down at street level, so make sure you find your way up the stairs, and prepare yourself for a distinctive food journey you won’t forget.“

“A must-try when in Honolulu! The tonkatsu here is one of the best in the city. The price matches the quality perfectly, making it a great value. They also serve Wagyu steak, which is absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. Draft beer is only $5, which is a great deal. I would definitely come back again“

The sushi was outstanding… hands down the best sushi I’ve ever had! The texture, taste and presentation was top notch. Wish there was a location on the east coast!“

“Food is ALWAYS delicious and the staff is so kind and attentive! Katsu-san creates the most beautiful sashimi platters and omakase sushi!“

“The overall experience and vibe at the sushi counter is excellent here - highly recommend going for that specifically. I got a walk-in spot when they opened, but since it's a fairly small space, it's probably best to make a reservation.

I like the way they do omakase here - your nigiri comes out one piece at a time until you say stop, whether that's only a handful of pieces along with other stuff you order, or a large course.

Bearing in mind that this is more of a casual-ish spot it's not going to be the fanciest preparations, but generally good and quality fish. Great variety of what they have on hand; definitely significantly above and beyond what you'd typically find back on the mainland! Variety goes a long way toward a good experience.

“I had an incredible dining experience here! From the moment we sat down, the staff was welcoming and attentive, making us feel right at home.

​The food was the absolute highlight:

​The Sushi: Every piece was incredibly fresh. The specialty rolls topped with jalapeño and roe had the perfect balance of heat and crunch.

​Ahi Tartare: The layering was beautiful and the fish was melt-in-your-mouth quality.

​Steak & Seafood: The sliced steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare and seasoned beautifully, and the mussels were a great addition to the meal.

​Pairing everything with a crisp glass of bubbly made for a perfect evening. Great food, great staff, and a great atmosphere. I will definitely be back again soon! Thank you!! :)“

“While on vacation I was wanting to listen to some Jazz. When I looked it up on the Internet it gave me the name of Heart Moon. I got dressed and went. This was a cozy place tucked away. I ordered food and the Chef made me some shrimp that was fantastic. Thanks Chef. The band was GREAT. I enjoyed myself so well. I plan to return. I told a few friends about this hidden Gem and they too have made plans to attend.“

“Great cozy Japanese izakaya at McCully Street Shopping Centre. The food menu was good and had a variety.

Drinks menu were good too. Overall, service was friendly and the servers would help make recommendations for food and drinks. Worth a visit if one has hunger pangs at night as it closes at 1am.“

“The handwritten menu is how you know you're going to have a good time.

Good, small izakaya-style restaurant. Fairly low-key and relaxed. Given that it's not a large space I'd say look into reservations, or get there early and there may be a time constraint.

Good, diverse menu of izakaya fare, including a very respectable fish list for sushi and sashimi. I really appreciate seeing a diverse selection of some harder-to-find stuff. Nicely prepared. I could definitely see myself making a return stop before my trip is over!

“Izakaya Naru is one of my most favorite Izakaya! The authentic Okinawan and Japanese dishes are amazing! And all staffs are super friendly! Also, the Koubashicha-wari, the Phiten Mulberry Leaf Tea mixed with Shochu, is THE Drink! Cannot stop drinking it knowing getting healthier 😁👍 Izakaya Naru is highly recommended!“
