“Group of 7 for lunch...server was very attentive to beverage refills (always a big deal to me) and we couldn't believe how quick the food came out! Good sized portions, reasonably priced and everyone enjoyed their meals. ???Nice job 1908 Draught House!“
“Went for Sunday lunch. Busy but fast and efficient service. Uncle Denny smash burger was yummy ! Thin smashed Pattie with crispy edges. Soft seedy bun, melty cheese and sweet sauce. Craveable! Good fries. Chili Mac light and flavorful. Definitely on our list of favorites!“
“Stopped here while traveling for work and it did not disappoint! There was street parking available up front and though we did not have reservations we were seated fairly quickly at the bar. We almost ordered one of everything to share. Each dish had unique flavors that tied perfectly together. The staff knew their food well and gave excellent recommendations. If you are going to get dinner in downtown Des Moines, you have to come here.“
“Not many places offering the selection of beers and ciders they have. Even as more of a bourbon drinker this was impressive. For the meal we had the ham balls and a fried pork tenderloin sandwich. Food tasted good, had a nice presentation, and was out relatively quick. Would definitely come back to try other stuff. Also a neat decor inside.“
“The food was excellent. One of the best steak deburgo I’ve had. The restaurant is small, so it gets really noisy. There was also no clear communication in where to go to get on the waitlist, you can’t wait at the bar so you have to go to a small waiting room down further in the strip mall. But again no one told us where to go to wait and there was no signage.“
“I hosted my husband's 50th birthday party at the Station, and their back room was having the Nightmare on Ingersol, so they had some tables reserved for us. We ended up with more than the tables would hold, and they did an amazing job of getting to people quickly, and made the night great, from the 8 year old, to the birthday boy with some people getting food, and getting drinks to everyone. Many thanks to you!“
“‼️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️‼️ 6/5 STARS⭐️Atmosphere = beautiful calming color scheme w/ details that catch your eye!⭐️Service = from the host to bartender & all 4 servers who waited on us. . . Over the top! Kara, our main server was warm, friendly yet professional! Love they all work as a team!⭐️Tableware = flatware removed that was not needed, unique serving pieces & fine glassware.⭐️Food Choices = nice variety w/o being "look at us doing something crazy different!" Bone marrow app was unique & delicious-accommodating to gf need for the bread.⭐️Presentation = excellent colors & perfectly plated-good eye to a clean outer plate rim in my book!⭐️Taste = everything from the mulberry sour cocktail to the flourless chocolate cake and everything in between was a hit out of the park. I'm partial to lemon & parmesan so I would have added that to the veggies that came with the chicken but was not a necessity.Cannot wait to return-thank you for bringing stellar customer service back in style with superb food as well!“
“This is a small little resturant. We always get the steak and it's in my opinion the juiciest I have ever eaten. The salad bar is small but it's always fresh. The wait staff are very pleasant and you can tell they enjoy working there.“
“We hosted our after prom this past Saturday night @ SP in WDM and the kids had a great time, the food was perfect for them and Kaylee & Hailey were very attentive to our needs and did a great job!!! Thanks SP, Kaylee & Hailey for helping us create the best memories for our kids!“
“Total dive bar/eatery with great service and amazing food! We stopped for our last pork tenderloin before heading home, and this did not disappoint! Hailey was a friendly waitress/. We had the bacon wrapped tater tots with jalapeño, Kelly's corn, and slit the pork tenderloin. It was simply delicious! If you go (and you should!) tell Hailey Matt&Karen from California sent you!“
“My daughter and I were having a fun night and stopped by RoCa to grab a bite before Les Mis. The drink, called aptly I dreamed a dream, was the best cocktail we’d ever had! Plus the Asian lettuce wraps and Fig and goat cheese flatbread were both scrumptious. Special thanks to the bartender who was so kind.“
“We came in with our family for the first time yesterday as we moved to Indianola only a couple months ago. The hamburger I had was one of the best I’ve had. Originally from the Des Moines area suburbs, the cheap prices were a shocker. I’ve had $10 hamburgers that didn’t taste half as good as the one I paid half that price for here yesterday. And the peach pie was delicious. You have to have it a la mode as the ice cream just brought out the flavor of the peaches that much more. Our kids wanted gum balls and we didn’t have cash on us but the person that served us and rung us up took two quarters out of the drawer and gave them to our kids. She said if the gum-balls fall on the floor they are hers! Needless to say they didn’t fall on the floor. The machine even jammed up the first time when one of our kids put his quarter in and she gave us another quarter. People are not nearly this nice where we come from because everybody is in such a big hurry. It’s great to see this. We will be back for sure. We definitely appreciate service like this.“
“Comfortable seating, fast service, and large portions of comfort food.If that’s what you crave, this is the place for you!We certainly did. After a long, cross-state drive it was a welcome stop for supper. My husband was happy that there were gluten free options. He had the pot roast and I had the roast turkey. There was plenty of food. From fresh bread to “family style fixings” (coleslaw + cottage cheese). We packed up our leftovers for lunch the next day. Food got 4-stars for saltiness (pot roast) and my turkey was warm, not hot. The gravy was also lumpy and thick like pudding. Otherwise the flavors were good.We loved the decor. Sound level was good - we could carry on a conversation even though the restaurant was full. In and out in an hour.Dietary restrictions: They had a separate menu listing gluten-free options. No GF bread“
“Cozy little place in West Des Moines. Was down from the Twin Cities for some other business and needed a quick lunch. The junction chicken was delicious and the sweet potato fries were some of the best I've ever had. It's a small place and seating is somewhat close together. Service was a bit slow but very friendly and welcoming. I would stop again if I'm in the area.“
“Everything was phenomenal from beginning to end! The waitstaff was attentive but not overbearing, and our waiter in particular was so friendly and recommended the crab stuffed walleye, which was to die for! The environment was classy and intimate, yet casual enough that it felt comfortable and warm. The best part of the meal was the appetizer- the seared ahi tuna is too good for words, just trust me on this and order it! This was a great place to visit for my birthday dinner, and we definitely plan on being back.“
“Great place for food. I highly recommend if you have not tried this place yet. The environment is warm and energetic. Did a walk in and managed to get a spot with my friend. The food was definitely worth the wait and the staff are all friendly and professional.“
“The food! The food! We have been here multiple times and tried several dishes. They have all been delicious beyond words and filling! I don’t drink beer so I wish they had more cocktails, which are premixed. But the food makes up for it!“
“This review is for 3.5 stars. This place has been on my list of places to try for a while so my husband and I ate dinner here last night. We both thought the food was good but priced higher than it should be for what we got.I got the CFD Burger and my husband got the Mojo Pork Sandwich and while we thought they were both fine, we felt a little underwhelmed for how much they cost. My burger was $14 and the pork sandwich was $16 and neither one came with fries or a side. The side fries were $4, which I got. I checked their website before we went there and the website price for the fries was $3, not $4. I really hate when restaurants change the price of things on the menu but don't update the menu on their website. My burger was good but not amazing. Their sauce in It reminded me of a Big Mac. I feel like I have gotten just as good hamburgers from Smashburger or Zombie Burger for much less money. My husband said he was expecting more flavor with his sandwich. It tasted good but didn't wow him. I guess we just expected more because the chef is a James Beard Award nominee. We thought the flavors would be much better than food you can find elsewhere.I also feel that burgers and sandwiches should always come with a side. Neither the burger nor the sandwich was very big. There's no way either one alone would fill you up. I don't know anyone who would order a burger without getting fries or some other side. However, I will say that the fries were very good. They were light and crispy and didn't taste like they were frozen from a bag. They were just slightly warm, though, and not piping hot. They were still tasty though. All the employees we dealt with were friendly and nice. Our server, though, disappeared after we got our food. She never checked on us to ask how things were. I didn't get very much ketchup for my fries and I was looking all over the room for her to ask for more ketchup. When I finally found her, I was halfway done with my food. The place looks amazing and definitely looks like an upscale modern diner. The decor and furnishings are beautiful. Everything looks well thought out. I don't think we will be back again any time soon, though. The food didn't impress us enough to try it again for what they're charging.“
“A week or so ago my family placed a large online order. My wife picked the order up and brought it home. When we got everything separated we realized some items were missing. Both my wife and I tried calling the restaurant several times due to living 20-plus minutes away but could only get a busy signal. My wife ended up going back to the restaurant. The young lady my wife spoke with was very apologetic about the entire situation and extremely kind. Despite having to go back for a couple of things, the young lady's handling of the situation and the food being great more than made up for everything. We will for sure return in the future.“
“Happy to see another local restaurant come to Ankeny! I ordered their Cubano sandwich, 1/2 order Brussel sprouts, and regular fries. I was blown away by how hot and fresh the food tasted even with delivery! I can’t wait to try them as dine in! Food was so flavorful and lots of unique choices!“
“I thought Waveland had the best pancakes in town until I came to MST. The buttermilk pancakes are thick, fluffy, with a slight lemon zest flavor and the homemade whipped cream is delicious. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ my smoked wings were good but I’ll be back for the cakes alone“
“Always has & always will be reliably Awesome eatn & family feeling people. Beautiful people w strength of the East side & memories of days all the way back. God bless this here family & thank You to them for being so human w ?“
“Stopped in for a bite to eat with some co-workers. The atmosphere was very welcoming, an at home sit down kind of place to watch sports TV. The theme through out the bar was baseball for the most part. I got a bacon burger with loaded fries, it was very delicious. If I'm back in the area I will definitely go again! The staff were very respectful and helpful for sure.“
“Haven’t been in a long time my mom would take me after school when I was little we would get chili dogs it was really good food from what I can remember and there cookies tasted exactly like subways but better ❤️❤️Probably haven’t ate here more than 10 years I’m an adult now and im so happy it’s still open“
“Very fun little restaurant! The food was delicious. Service was a bit slow, but the waitress was friendly, so it was worth the wait! Great loaded bloody Mary. Will return in the future.Kid-friendliness: There is an area separate seating area away from the bar that is appropriate for families wanting to avoid the bar crowd.“
“It's a great pot stop off of I-235. Nice bar with great food, staff, and clean bathrooms. On our way to Chicago from KC area. I couldn't face a fast-food stop. This was definitely a good decision. Excellent! ?This is a small neighborhood place and parking might be an issue. I prefer small :)“
“One of our favorite places in the DSM metro!!! Excellent food, top notch cocktails, high end atmosphere, and the staff is professional and friendly. Wish I had a 6th star! Always make a reservation, it can be hit or miss with availability.“
“Their new location is STUNNING! I've been a stuffed olive fan for a couple of years now. Their spinach dip and Nashville hot sliders pair so perfectly with my favorite strawberry lemon drop martini. It's my usual everytime and NEVER disappoints. I'm so glad they have this new space and will be able to accommodate more people and their outdoor patio will be a game changer. So happy for them and will continue to make this a monthly stop!!“
“This place was delicious! They had the largest Gluten Free menu I’ve ever seen at a restaurant. They even had gluten free kids meal options.I had the Mac & cheese made with Gouda & bacon with GF penne. So good! And the service was great!Dietary restrictions: Great Gluten Free menu!“
“My lulu and I really enjoyed paws and pints. It was a bit overwhelming at first but he always takes a little bit to adjust and get comfortable. Make sure to download the app and vaccine records before you get there. Had a couple cold ones and a few hours in the sun“
“Great place for quality moderately priced food. Had the Royal Chicken sandwich, excellent! A patron next to me had the Chicken Tacos so I know what I'm getting next time.Update: went back months later and had the Chicken Tacos, they were the real deal.3/19/2024: went back and had the Buffalo Chicken sandwich special with Mac and Cheese (pictured). It was delicious.“
“I can't like this place enough. it has a hip atmosphere, the food is good and the drinks are more than reasonably priced. On top of that the staff is always super friendly. This place has become my Friday night ritual. Definitely recommend.“
“The flour taco is by far the best!!! We don't frequent often as we really can only do a date night. We have came on a weekend with kids and they enjoyed the food but really not very family friendslly with seating choices and it just the darkness. No kids meals. But if the main aspect is more of a bar I totally understand and respect that. Also the blonde bartender/server rocks it. And so friendly.“
“Wait staff was outstanding with little wait time on a very busy night. The pizza was cooked perfectly with good onion rings as a side. The very best part was cold pizza the next day as it took me back to my partying days in the 70s. Wonderful cold!!!“
“My husband and I have been coming here for 7 years and it remains one of our absolute favorite spots. Great food with large portions. Very tasty desserts (if you're not feeling a big meal, its worth swinging by for just a dessert). Good staff. Cozy atmosphere. A Des Moines must!“
“Cheese Bar is my favorite restaurant. I like it for the friendly staff, excellent service, knowledgeable chef, and of course delicious food. They clearly train their people well and are all very kind and relaxed. Their food and beverages have been consistently well prepared and tasty for over 6 years. I love it!“
“Friendly folks and well staffed! I had the smothered chicken with a side salad and broccoli & cheese soup. I love how I didn't have to ask for any extra dressing for my side salad, they put just the right amount for you. The grilled chicken breast was cooked perfectly, as well as the grilled onions and mushrooms it was smothered in. The broccoli & cheese soup blew me away. It had more seasoning than I'm used to, but was absolutely incredible! Being new to the area, this is by far my favorite place in the two months I've been here. I couldn't help but watch every plate that came out of the kitchen to see how awesome it looked. Take my word for it., the food looked incredible! I wish I wasn't trying to lose weight, because I would try everything on the menu within a week! LOL, wish I had posted some pictures of my food, but I honestly didn't expect the greatness I found in this hidden gem on the edge of town.“
“We were here on a Friday night with a group of 8. We had a reservation and we were seated immediately. The owner stopped by and said hello before our waiter even got there. The service was great the whole evening, our waiter knew exactly when to come back and when to let us be and just enjoy the dinner. The food was great, it was a 4 course fixed price menu. Everything was delicious and the portions were just right. The brick walls add to the already great atmosphere. The restaurant was great and we will definitely be back in the future!“
“Enjoyed all courses, including the chef's bites (cheese curds) and naan. Burnt carrots were delicious; the pig wing and shrimp weekly special was exceptional, as was the steak. Appreciated attentive service; we're looking forward to a return visit.“
“I feel that this place is super good to go to eat, the food there is super good and when something runs out they put it out very quickly, the service is excellent, they serve you very quickly you ask questions like a guy. If you take children to that place they ask you how old they are and what you are going to order for drinks and well if you don't have children or they don't take you to that place they only ask you the other thing and even though the place gets very full, that's normal but from there everything is excellent.“
“The owner was so accommodating!! It was my husband’s son’s bday. We were able to have all 7 of us a nice large table, the service was great and the food was good. The only reason for 4 star on atmosphere is because when the iowa women’s basketball ball game on the sound was turned up. We were sitting under a tv. Way too loud. I plan to go back sometime soon!!“
“Food was over the top. Service perfect. We will be back. My son said it was the best steak he's ever had in his life. Drinks were fantastic too as were all of our entrees, appetizers and desserts. Definitely top 5 restaurants in Des Moines.“
“The onion rings were light and real easy on the stomach. I also got a chili cheese coney which had onion pickle and mustard on it as well. That combination was new to me but it was surprisingly delicious. I'll be back in for more. Who knows maybe I'll be a regular before long.“
“Genevieve is the literal best server I’ve ever had in my entire life. She was so efficient and knowledgeable about the menu and drinks and so friendly and welcoming while my husband and I were so unfamiliar with the menu. She served us good food and good drinks and we can not wait to come back !! A++++ service !!!“
“Awesome food, awesome staff, and great location. The first time I came here I thought why is this restaurant out in the middle of nowhere? Now it’s becoming more developed around the area and it fits that gap for an area that is somewhat out the way. It’s the perfect place to stop on my way home after work. I like to stop for a beer or two while I wait for my take home Pizzas. Trust me if you like Fong’s pizza, you will really like this menu!“
“Beer, beer, and more beer! Honestly probably the biggest beer selection I’ve ever seen at a bar. The amount of taps on the wall was crazy. The food was good too, I got the spam egg and cheese sandwich. For appetizer we got the bacon wrapped tots. This place was pretty awesome, if I lived here you’d see me in there pretty regularly.“
“Stopped by for lunch and ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a side of green beans. Overall great sandwich and green beans. It was lunchtime so I thought it would be a little busier. There was hardly anyone there. It didn’t make it for an interesting stop but I got great service overall.“
“Pizza is awesome. And for pub food, very good!! Detailed on ingredients and sauces. Sometimes gets crazy if bartender is also cooking, but Service is always on. With a smile too. Great neighborhood place. And always a game to play, like cribbage or yatzee.“
“While I've always enjoyed the festive atmosphere and holiday themes at this establishment, I must express some disappointment with the service during my recent visit. I suggest implementing a more organized hosting system rather than allowing guests to seat themselves. On a busy Saturday night post-Valentine's Day, we experienced a lengthy wait of about 15-20 minutes at our table without a greeting from staff until we flagged someone down for menus. It was an even longer wait to order drinks and appetizers. Despite being there for over an hour, we only ordered an appetizer and drinks as our server never came back until we asked for a bill. Overall, I believe this place excels in food and ambiance, but improving the organization and staffing levels would greatly enhance the customer experience.“
“I haven't eaten a Maid Rite burger in over 50 years! So I ate 2 of them! These are an Iowa favorite and were a real treat when I lived in Iowa as a kid. Basically they are steamed ground beef on a bun. Ketchup, Mustard and Pickles if you want, I ate mine plain just as I remember doing all those years ago. It's an old fashioned place that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner plus soft drinks and ice cream. I love em and I think everyone should try them!“
