“First time to Waveland Cafe. The food here was pretty good! We had a party of 3, no one complained about the food, and we are all pretty picky, so that was a success. Service was friendly & quick. If it's your first time, two things to be aware of parking & space are a bit limited. your entire party must be present to be seated.“

“We came in with our family for the first time yesterday as we moved to Indianola only a couple months ago. The hamburger I had was one of the best I’ve had. Originally from the Des Moines area suburbs, the cheap prices were a shocker. I’ve had $10 hamburgers that didn’t taste half as good as the one I paid half that price for here yesterday. And the peach pie was delicious. You have to have it a la mode as the ice cream just brought out the flavor of the peaches that much more. Our kids wanted gum balls and we didn’t have cash on us but the person that served us and rung us up took two quarters out of the drawer and gave them to our kids. She said if the gum-balls fall on the floor they are hers! Needless to say they didn’t fall on the floor. The machine even jammed up the first time when one of our kids put his quarter in and she gave us another quarter. People are not nearly this nice where we come from because everybody is in such a big hurry. It’s great to see this. We will be back for sure. We definitely appreciate service like this.“

“This place tops my list for top brunch locations! Absolutely beautiful phenomenal service, delicious food, and a great atmosphere. We easily reserved a table for 10 gals and had a great time! They had wonderful cocktails, I recommend the rosemary cocktail and the salmon and eggs.“

“It's a great pot stop off of I-235. Nice bar with great food, staff, and clean bathrooms. On our way to Chicago from KC area. I couldn't face a fast-food stop. This was definitely a good decision. Excellent! ?This is a small neighborhood place and parking might be an issue. I prefer small :)“

“I come here for the lattes, sourdough toasts, and the roasted red soup, but their pastries are great too! Highly recommend, their staff is friendly, the food and drinks are delicious, and the atmosphere is an absolute 10 out of 10! Warm and cozy cafe to enjoy your coffee and decompress for a bit. “We went for brunch for the first time, and it was fabulous! The servers are friendly and helpful in recommending dishes and accommodating to taste preferences. The food was incredible. We shared the mushroom toast, and as someone who is usually neutral for mushrooms, I went back for seconds. The breakfast sandwich was a great mix of sweet and savory. The little hash brown on the side was probably the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was a little loud, so may be difficult for older individuals to hear conversation. I even struggled a little with this. But I would highly recommend overall!“

“Will definitely order from again-to go or dine in.I ordered three items to get me set up for breakfast for three days since I was going to be busy.I ordered the biscuits and gravy, a bagel with garden vegetable cream cheese and the breakfast bowl with green pepper, onion and sausage.Yesterday I had the bagel that was fresh, toasted and had plenty, more than enough, yummy cream cheese on it.Today I’m enjoying the biscuits and gravy and they’re very good, even reheated.Tomorrow I’ll have the breakfast bowl and visually already, I’m very happy with it too.I had it picked up and delivered through DoorDash.Arrived hot and ready.Total was 15 plus 3 service fee plus tip and tax, but had a 40% off code so with tip it was an even 20.00 for three meals delivered. “The employees at this Chrome Cafe, make you feel like family and they are very courteous while you are there.Kid-friendliness: There are conferable seating and flatscreens to watch shows on in the dining room and in the truckers lounge.Wheelchair accessibility: Someone may need to hold the door but otherwise no problems that I could see.“

“Paula's must be The destination for Maid Rite sandwiches. Everyone ordered them & is obviously the local favorite. Not being from the area, the entire experience was endearing, from standing under sign at the lunch counter to order & pay (cash only) then you select your table while your sandwich is made fresh & brought to you. Very interesting sandwich, similar to a Sloppy Joe with No sauce. Watching the regulars, you bus your own dishes to help keep overhead low & your delicious food affordable. A Must experience“

“A fun, uniquely decorated place that has great food and friendly service! The Cuban is pretty good, and not heavy on the bread. Thats a positive in my mind- better tasting meats and pickle spear with a tasty mustard that isn’t overwhelming. Has a patio for when the heat’s out, and nice, quaint indoor seating until then. The art is fun to look at. Humidor with cigars available too. Can you find Bigfoot?“

“Came in here this morning to grab coffee and a small breakfast for my family. I ordered the large iced pistachio rose latte and it was superb. The pistachio/rose flavor makes it the perfect combo of creamy and delightful. My husband had a large iced pumpkin spice latte which was exactly that deliciously pumpkin and spice. The staff was very friendly and I believe one of the owners was there and she was very nice smiling at me snapping pictures of her beautiful business. My husband and I shared the mexi bowl which I unfortunately didn't get a picture of because my kid was into it picking out the beans and we devoured it up right away too. It had egg, salsa, cheese, black beans, bell peppers and avocado slices. The mexi bowl was the perfect balance of all the good things we love. They have quite the variety of dishes for everyone. We are gluten free so the young lady who helped us recommended it for us and it definitely hit the spot. Highly recommend for everyone to try!“

“Basil Prosperi… my FAVORITE restaurant for lunch. The food is fantastic. I introduced the restaurant to my teenager, and it’s become the go to restaurant after her 90-day blood draws, and dr appointments. Today our appointment ran long and I dropped her at the curb at 1:47 pm. Y’all fixed her “crack Alfredo” and made her day. The Fettuccini Alfredo and Ricotta and Spinach were divine! Thank you for the treat after the unpleasantness!“

“I'm biased because I know a handful of the Mars crew, and am a fellow coffee nerd. They carry great coffee and know how to make it taste awesome. - Their espresso machine isn't the most awesome thing in the world, but it still makes a good shot. The pour over service can't be beat. Awesome place to hit up when I'm in downtown DSM.“

“Absolutely loved this breakfast place. My grandmother was so excited they offered a senior menu. The kids menu was perfect. All the food was delicious and the staff were super friendly. We really enjoyed dining here and will absolutely be back the next time we want breakfast.The offerings are very similar to IHOP but local. Prices were very reasonable. Have no complaints at all. “I'm not sure why this place is flagged as closed. Could be a possible name change or new ownership? Anyway, it was a great experience and glad it's open! They had your typical full bar, bottles of crisp domestics, and a handful of beers on tap. Including a rotating seasonal beer and this time of year it was Shiner Cheer! It is cash only, but no worries there, as they do offer an ATM in the back. We had such a great time making conversation with some of the friendly regulars and having a couple rounds we decided it was probably a good idea to get some food in our stomachs. They had build your own pizzas with about every topping you would expect and also 4 specialty pizzas. We chose the Cheeseburger and it did not disappoint. It came out PERFECT with one pickle slice per square. I'll admit I didn't expect much from a dive bar, and was thoroughly impressed. Definitely will return!“

“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there. the atmosphere is incredibly laid back, much like that of a late '60s early 70s tea shop. the staff was incredibly friendly and their menu was diverse. if you cannot find at least one or two items to eat here, I don't think that you are really hungry. what I ate had an incredible flavor and while filling, did not make me feel like I had over eaten. bring one of these down to Springfield missouri! with the University right next to the uptown area, you would make a fortune!“

“I have been wanting to try this place since my son moved to Des Moines. Great place! I had the homemade granola with chia seed yogurt. My son had the spinach florentine with poached eggs and hollandaise. My husband had the breakfast tacos and we were all VERY happy with our choices. Will be stopping in again on our next visit!“

“Easy access from downtown Des Moines Marriott. We had burritos on special one day. Good flavor but overpowered by too many green peppers. Egg scramble another morning was great. My buddy loved the croissant and bread options. Will go back .“

“I’m not sure I should call Trellis a hidden gem lunch spot in Des Moines, because it’s always hopping when I’m there, and for good reason! I am always so pleased with my meals. I love how the menu changes monthly so there’s always something new and interesting to try. The ingredients are fresh and high-quality and the dishes are inventive. The patio is a wonderful place to sit on a beautiful day. Touring the botanical center and eating lunch at Trellis makes for a pretty great day!Kid-friendliness: The kids menu is small but exceptional. The grilled cheese comes on nice bread and is always perfectly toasted. Sides always include fresh fruit and crackers/chips.“
